just to put this into perspective .. we give carrazzo a 30 year old tagger who cant kick the money for two more years when he doesnt play instead of a fifty goal a year match winner??

ok..... again list management..!!!

i suppose the best thing about him not playing is he isnt giving the ball back to the oppossition...

Only upside is maybe bring forward some payments to 2014 and save the $150-200k from 2015.

Thought the same thing. We'll need all the cap space we can get with almost all our valuable players coming out of contract at the end of 2014.

Talk of a financial settlement....not sure why....so maybe not much relief at all. Sounds like the club wanted him gone as much as he wanted to go.

If taking the Duigan thing on face value it's unacceptable to be in a situation where we go into 2014 one short.

Someone has flowered up bigtime.

This has been dragging on for while. Duigan had one year to go on his contract. Carlton wanted to move him to the rookie list at rookie wages. Duigan playing senior football could earn a lot more money than playing for the Northern Blues all year and receiving rookie wages. Duigan said he would go to the rookie list if he was compensated. Carlton said No. Duigan has been liaising with the AFL players union for the past couple of months. The AFL players union were highly critical of the blues - a contract is a contract. Carlton and Duigan have now come to a settlement.

At the end of the day, don't sign players to contracts if they are no longer required. - List Management

The rookie list salary requirements were changed a long time ago. You don't need to be on rookie wages to be on the rookie list.

Correct, if a player has a contract he is paid that even if on the rookie list.
Half of the base rookie wage is not included in the salary cap, which is only around $20-25,000 (half).

Jimmae it is like you agreeing to receive bonuses for every 100 posts you make on TC but you are never given a login id to post. Doesn't make sense does it?

When a contract also has a component on the number of senior games played with bonuses etc and you are on the rookie list playing in the VFL, it is going to be very difficult to play senior football unless someone falls down and goes onto the LTIL.

I just don't see how this story adds up..
Duigan said he would go to the rookie list if compensated (I'm assuming this means he sticks to his current contract)??
Club says no, leaves him on the senior list under the same contract...

If the club wanted him on the rookie list it would've happened. Same contract for Duigan, so the only difference it makes for the club is the difference between the contract for a 4th round National Draft pick or a Rookie Draft pick..

Looks like Luke Reynolds may benefit from this...
Duigan is a smart man, surely he would have known
weather he was going to continue on or not...
Scotland went to the rookie list, have a feeling he is
on more than $70k per year, something doesn't add up.
All the best duigan, hoping Reynolds gets promoted...

Also on Thursday, the AFL confirmed Nick Duigan – who retired in December – has been officially placed on the long-term injury list.

This will enable the Blues to promote a rookie to replace him on the senior list.

Veteran Heath Scotland is the club's nominated rookie after being delisted then re-drafted in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft, which means he is already eligible to play seniors.

So who do you all think will be the clubs "promoted rookie"? Do they go with Cameron Wood and give Kreuzer the extra time he may need to get fully match fit? Do they go with Cachia early, blood one of the Ciaran's, or let one of Blane Johnson or Luke Reynolds off the leash early? My guess is Cameron Wood will likely get the nod given his age and experience at this level and also maybe a club need as well.

I guess this also means that once promoted they are permanently on the senior list - at least until the end of the season or injury forces them out.
