but did they change the rules? I know this is seven hundred years ago, but I remember we traded Cavedon (I think) for Darren Kappler, and then sent Kappler and Minton-Connell to the Swans for Diesel. Kappler ended up being a Carlton player for about 10 minutes!

A player doesnt have to be involved with the picks as of this year. The AFL has done this to appease the players association

People, Bret has made the decision then so be it. It sucks but that life.
The dawks need to consider two things given that both Bret and them want to form ties - one is that they DESPERATELY require a defensive KP, two is they were party to a trade involving two 1st round picks for an ageing full back who is probably not even VFL standard.

It is irrelevant about the quality of the draft, that is a subjective argument

Now, the ball is in the dawks court. They need to make it happen. They are trying to acquire a 23 y.o KP defender with 91 games experience under his belt, with the best years of his career in front of him. A player who has done remarkably well in an under-performing team manning up the best forwards in the game. Folks, Bret has genuine trade value. Lets not make any mistakes about it.

So, given all this and the fact that the onus is on the dawks to facilitate a trade then pick 6 is definitely not out of the question. So please stop acting like it is!
They have stockpiled top 20 picks over the last 3 years and can afford to relinquish one this year given their young list. I'll be happy to throw in pick 19 (not 17) as well. A trade involving pick 6 in some sort of combination is the only trade I want Carlton to be looking at as a minimum. No soft cocking on this!!!

I've watched you for five years and thought that you may make a pretty good player one day, sadly that day never arrived while you were at Carlton, and to tell you the truth it probably won't arrive wherever you end up. Why? Because you are no good. You are continually beaten to the ball, easily shrugged off in a one-on-one contest and are always quick to blame someone else for your opponent getting a shot on goal. Unfortunately Brett, you like many a player before you have been caught up in the 'hype' that your manager created. Well done to your manager, he pockets a nice 20+% of your over-the-top salary but the fact remains that you will struggle. Remember Brett you are no longer a one club player, you won't get your name on the locker and in reality are not welcome back at Carlton. Anyway Brett, all the best at Gleneferrie, or is it Mulgrave, or is it Hobart, or is it Davenport or Burnie - I can never keep up with the Hawks movements. I'm sure the Hawks will provide that warm and loving environment that you so obviously require in order to get your "passion" back for the game - just ask Nathan Thompson and Jonny Hay for their thoughts!

Somehow they'll get a second rounder for Everitt, possibly with a player. They will then trade 24 and the 2nd rounder for Thornton.

The irony of all this is that I was sitting on 700 posts for ages, and had David Teague as the player under my username. I hoped to get to 800 before he was delisted, and when I got to 800 and saw Thornton's name under my username I thought I'd cracked it to have a guy who would still be at the club when all the trades and delistings had been finalised.

Looks like I'll have to wait until they get adjusted again...
