I think we need to play Binns this week. We are in need for some "width". We need to show some faith in him like we have with some other players.

They’ve had a crisis of conscience during the week. In the name of transparency, he’s listed as ‘unavailable’.

I thoroughly enjoyed being in sunny Melbourne.
Hadn't been to Coburg ground since my VFA days at Sandy in the late 70's.
I watched the VFL team play.

Some of the things O'Keefe and O'Farrell did made me think of Crusader.
They will make good AFL players.

I even started to believe O'Farrell may be useful in the AFL team albeit too skinny. Such is his class. Great timer of the ball. Great mark. Courageous. Maybe good replacement for Kemp as the 3rd forward. Not sure if that's good for his development, but he'd get a good idea what other defenders are doing.

As for Shull O'Keefe, he played his best game for the Bagger, not because of the goals he kicked, but his mobility and marking were the best Ive seen. He's evolving and looks like he's anxious to get a look in at AFL level.

After watching Acres play his best game for the year vs Geelong he played another sub par game vs Crows imo. I had Lucas Campo ahead of Binns prior to this game vs Coburg. I'm still not a Binns fan but from what I saw, at least he makes space and he finds ball, and CREATES connection....which trickles slowly towards our goal... regardless , he's a better option than Acres.Maybe Lucas is a longer kick...mmmm... To me Acres strength is his big body, running, marking and spoils. He hasn't shown enough to have him as an auto selection. Binns was a better player than Lucas on the day.

Pitto was strong...

Campos...need time....Wilson showed his best for the first time this year, but at HB.

I don't know why Boydy isnt playing AFL TBH.

Moir ... next year ... maybe.

TBC vs Saints: Pittonet, Boyd, Binns, O'Keefe

I'll be pleasantly surprised if we win this. Can just see another 12 goals to 10 Lyon coaching class.

I wouldn't expect Cotters or JSOS to be right, & Williams with his history will surely get more than a week off.

So....potential ins Boyd Campo Binns. Replace some of the cumbersome types with them & we might be a chance. That was a pretty heavy side we fielded last week.

That’s what I’m thinking.

The brief for Binns has to be ‘more run & handball, less uncontested mark on the boundary’. He’s got to get closer to the violence & draw the defenders to where the blokes up field can create something.

Young was ok, but just being ok in a side that was hammered is far from undroppable. As keen as I am on O’Farrell, he was a bit shit when the challenge was on in the last quarter. Wood, Caminiti, Sharman… it’s the best look he’s going to get. Still, we might get a better shift out of Boyd.

Yep.

I'm thinking along those lines.

No need for wholesale changes because Im expecting the midfield group to lift and Marshall may go easy on TDK

Howard, Wilkie and Webster dominated the air in their backline last week.
I do not want Charlie as the lone marking target if McKay goes into the ruck to give TDK a rest.

If Voss doesn't have the confidence to put Young in a FP rotating ruck-bench, then another marking forward would be preferable when Harry is in ruck.
Too many small forwards who don't give us midfield minutes.

Motlop's position after last week's selfish game is vulnerable.
I know, he and Williams have gone in midfield for small minutes, but don't think we will miss him in the midfield either.

We do need Elijah to have more time in the midfield like last year, and maybe....Durdin??
Need more players to rotate in the midfield. Too much left to too few.

If Crippa is the 2nd or 3rd marking tall in the forwardline, we need someone to cover his midfield role
Is Lord that player? Can Doc find something, if he survives?

Disappointing if true but it gives us a chance to look at O'Keefe when he's in form and confident. Bring him in and let him rotate forward with TDK. Harry can play forward. We just need a contest with the high ball from O'Keefe. Don't allow Wilkie etc to get uncontested intercept marks.

Out- Charlie (if injured) Young, Lord, Motlop.
In. HOK, JSOS, Boyd, Binns.

If true, I would bring in Pittonet and let TdK play more forward. Let's see if the 1.7 million is worth it.

Got the fingers crossed but not a comfortable game , but then neither are Sydney nor GWS any easier.

Yes , there is no harder harder Coach to coach against than Ross Lyon . Ross has already started the mind games with his " they have made there bed and they have to lay in it . Well Ross , let me remind you that StKilda also have made there bed and must lay in it .

What bed? What’s the idiot talking about?

It was the reference to Sayers giving him the gig to coach Carlton only to have it overturned by the board . To my mind it was a backhanded swipe at Voss's ability as a coach .

PS ................ Ross is borderline crazy maybe but he aint an idiot .

Thanks Mick. Strange that he still holds a grudge........must have really upset him that he didn't get the job.

But that's the point isn't it Suzz . He did have the job . Sayers gave him the job until the board got wind of it and Sayers had to reneg on the deal . So yeah , Ross is shity and I don't blame him .

Personally, I'm glad he didn't get the job. I certaintly don't like the way it was handled by all parties and for the record, I wanted Brad Scott.
Still think he would have been a good choice.

Charlie is Gone... No chance.....

Makes this Game 50:50. Harry has to lift..... Voss won't replace Charlie with anyone... he will play Harry & Young up forward as usual with very little results!

After the collision with TDK, Curnow appeared to grab at his knee.
He also received treatment on his knee prior to training yesterday.
Carlton adamant this morning there’s no knee injury to Curnow, however are unable to confirm whether he will play v STK.
Training this morning

Michael Voss insists Charlie Curnow is right to go for Carlton's clash with St Kilda following the training collision with Tom De Koning

I thought for a minute I was in the Injury thread

If the Blues played an severely underdone Curnow against Hawks and said he could have played the previous week, then Charlie is playing this week, if he's got at least one good leg.

After watching the VFL, I really felt Boyd should be in the AFL team.
With Cowan and Carroll playing, if Ollie isn't pushed back to the wing, then I can't see Boyd coming in.
I prefer Ollie on a wing, and Boyd BP locking in on smalls.

I'm struggling to pick my team today, and I'm assuming Curnow will play tomorrow night.

I feel we have a few options.

I do prefer Pitto to ruck against Marshall, but like last week, its a big test to see how far TDK's craft has developed.
So far this year, imo, and looking at ruck work exclusively he hasn't beaten any of the bigger rucks he's faced: Nankervis, Meek, English, Xerri & O'Brien.
May have broken even with Williams (WCE) and beat Stanley (Geelong) easily.
Marshall will just take away TDK's jump and use his weight advantage to move TDK off the line.

I don't expect Pitto to be selected

I don't want TDK playing forward and kicking a bag. Not while Saints are dangling $1.7M for him to play KPF/ No.2 ruck

IN: Silvagni
OUT: Motlop

That's our spine.

So we've been playing spineless footy except against Geelong, when we only had 5 on the injured list.

In the 2 other games we won, we only had 5 and 5 out injured.

All other losses we've had 7 - 13 out injured. We don't bat deep.
