Must play the kid. Sometimes your teammates let you down by not offering viable options.

Essendon* had more possessions inside 50 s stoppage clearances more contested possessions
They smashed Hawthorn in clearances 50 to 31
That is a smashing
Yet Hawthorn won comfortably
They are great at pressure
They have clinical ball movement and are quick
Essendon* remind me of Carlton
Stodgy footy
Those stats are Carlton’s one wood
Voss hasn’t come up with a plan B
Nothing surprises in the win column in the AFL
Given last night stats we have to move the ball quickly and not play defensive football
Hawks were brilliant on the turnover last night

Hawks have become my number 1 hate team very quickly surpassing decades of Essendon* Collingwood and Richmond.
Don’t fully understand it
They’ve been hugely successful in the modern era, were down for 5 minutes after dumping some very good players eg OMeara and having others retire, and have bounced back to the top way too quickly. Like pay your dues and suffer a bit you pricks
They play a very scary attacking brand of football running everyone off their feet making me lose hope
They are exceptionally well drilled and coached
Their over celebrating shits me
Their ducking and diving shits me. I find Watson even more annoying than Ginnivan
Their coach while tactically astute is a sook and completely ungracious
They need to be put back in their box. Would love it to be us

We can’t drop our bundle here. There’s nothing in the game plan that includes so many unforced errors.

Minor tweaks up forward that will push some other magnets back to where they belong.

And throw that pickle juice shit in the bin.

Weitering should control Chol any day of the Week, but how we do stop their Mosquito Fleet?

They are so well drilled and so full of running & Tackling. We need to Stop their run off half back. Tag Sicily or force him to go forward and play close to Amon & Dambrosio and we might get close within 30 points of them. Anything less and we are looking at a 50+ loss.

For starters you don't go in with JSOS, McGovern, Haynes and Weitering in the same backline.
Saad, Carroll, Hollands and Cowan should play a lot on minutes in the back half so there's room for 2 talls and a rotation at the most. The idea of playing McGovern as a small defender is fraught with danger against quick forwards.
Cerra seemed to spend time in the back half again on Thursday when Jack went forward. I just don't get it. He's a midfielder who uses the ball well. It's not like we're overstocked with them at the moment.

They did effectively that about 3 times in last year's game.... They'll do it again.. Sicily has the range in his kick to do it even deep in the po ket, switch to the alternate side with players running on...
It's the AFL equivalent of the beating the offside trap.
Richmond were doing a similar thing in the last quarter...as we pushed forward.

I wonder wtf players are taught throughout summer..
I've always said ' watch the first kick of the year.... They've had all summer for at least ONE set play' but alas nothing (mind you most teams have no idea)

Go Blues

There coach also has zero respect for the Carlton Football Club, and why should he, it was his personal play thing during his footballing career and its panning out that way for his coaching career - I doubt that he is even tactically planning to play us this week - merely telling his players to bring the heat against us an we’ll no doubt fall over like a pack of cards as we have done for the past 20 years against them.

Disagree. Mitchell will be priming them to annihilate us. He’ll want all the percentage and he’s gonna get it too.

I'd replace Evans & Haynes with Bernie Evans & Desmond Haynes

Desmond Tutu would be a massive upgrade at this point.

He doesn’t have to prime them - Sam Mitchell has zero respect for us - they just need to follow there normal process and they will annihilate us regardless.

I have zero respect for us right now.

Watching Collingwood run on top of the ground yesterday after looking like cripples the week before gives me hope we will have more than 20 mins of high energy football in us this week.

So my review of the Richmond game wont go past the first quarter. What I would like to know is why we only scored 5 goals in the first quarter when we completely out played them. A lot of them goals scrappy too. No system with ball in hand and no polish and speed around goal. Richmond also sat back and did well. Hopefully we do better. Looks like the Hawks dont mind a shootout so lets hope our attacking system holds up with a bit more space.

I agree BV but I also think the backline needs to be more proactive. With the addition of more speed across half back they need to squeeze up quicker to cover those opposition players attempting to provide running overlap. Once they have handballed or kicked to a free player it is too late.

Agreed, Lucas is one of the last blokes I'd be dropping. There's too many that have run out of chances.

Haynes, I can see why some are torn on. On the one hand, it was his first game with us. On the other, he's a seasoned veteran, and we need to draw a line in the sand and let the boys know that subpar performances will get you dropped.

For me, Haynes and McGovern both have to be dropped for Young and someone else.

I don't care if Young stinks up the joint, he can be dropped the following week if that's the case. But no more free rides for performances like what we saw against Richmond.
