Observations:

- Pitto is useless. Offers nothing around the ground. Got smashed by a young St Shitna ruck. O’Keefe while raw made a small impression on me. Pitto has no excuses. Big body, fit and all that. He is taking the piss in my opinion.
- Weitering was smashed. No two ways about it.
- Mc Govern insists on kicking sideways 20 metres across the ground. A couple of times to poor Carrol and Hollands. Lucky they were good enough to take the mark. He gave up at least 2 goals in one quarter doing this. No excuses for a leader
- Lord, Carrol, Hewett, Motlop were very good
- Not sure about Moir. He went in a few times, but not sure yet. Not sure he has the want or desire yet.
- Everyone bags Young. But he marks and spoils. Yes he takes a while to dispose. But he lacks confidence as i said i heard, and that is on the coaches and the leaders as in Weitering and McGovern to direct and talk to him.
- We got smashed in the midfield again. Cripps cant do it all. Who is going to stand up? I didnt really notice Cerra much.
- If E. Hollands cannot get a full game then it’s a worry. What has he done? We are hearing about some indescretion again. If that is the case after what he did the last time, then there isn’t much hope for him.
- If Harry is held then there isn’t much else.
- Fogarty did nothing.
- Lemmey - Yes he is young, but far out show something mate. That was his chance to at least show something.
- TDK was cracking it a few times as kicks to him went over his head
- Are we fit? St Kilda ran over us.
- Who was on Hill? I think it was Binns. Hill was left unopposed all game.
- St Kilda just chipped away from their back line on the wing the whole game. And we let them.

I would like to believe we didnt want to show our hand. And just get some kms into the legs. But i was deflated by the structure again.

My definition of toughness and competitiveness and speed and power that Voss has been going on about the whole pre-season was not that.

Yes it’s only a practice game. Yes i know. But if you are that type of person, it is always there. At least the glimpses are there.

And the umpiring far out. Even in pre-season games. It just annoys me.

Lastly those St Kilda supporters carrying on about winning this game. They are pathetic.

That Travaglia kicking that goal albeit it a good one in the last and carrying on to the crowd - What a flog mate. Just calm down mate. We know you wanted to play for Carlton and are trying to show off.

Yes im fired up. I hate losing to St Shitna. Whether it’s a game of footy, a game of chess or UNO for that matter.

Sorry for the long winded post ……..

HOF didn’t play in the seniors game yesterday. HOK was the relieving ruckman who came on late for us.

Yeah.. sorry.. okeefe. Number 40 in the last quarter.
Give him some experience now.
Looks ok. Develop.

I think Carroll was matched up against one of their small forwards for a little period= speed. Took a competitive mark, ok kicking at times.

Hopefully he keeps getting better.

Health and safety ? Duty of care ? deadset joke that game was allowed to go ahead . It was searingly hot with a scorching north wind to boot . Elite athletes or not athlete athletes that was putting the health and wellbeing of players at risk . Come on , get fair dinkum AFL ................ anyhow , as the game went ahead I suppose we can only comment on what we saw . I have to admit initially I was a bit underwhelmed but on reflection it did what it was supposed to do and that's run the cobwebs out . And give some kids a go . And Cripps and Cerra were going at half pace if that . George was great and he has a very capable understudy in Lord . Lord won't be a champion but he will be a very good bread and butter player . Basically I think we played our cards very close to our chest . Just get through the game and leave the glory to the march champions . Save yourselves for the real deal .

I watched just Q1 & we looked OK.

Can't recall us getting a single free kick but the Saints got plenty

George - was very good, looks lighter and covered the ground well. Got into good positions forward to have shots on goal - hopefully he can add this to his game. We need our mids to kick more goals.

Carrol - plenty to like, run and carry out of defence, some average kicks however considering it was his first hit out and the conditions there is plenty to like. Looks like the type that can just keep running.

Lord - backed up the talk over the preseason and was in everything, did a lot of little 1% that should help our players on the outside. Like the contest.

I thought Docherty was great, his handballing out wide allowed the game to open up and provide good options moving forward, good hit out.

Cowan - still learning however he loves the contest and hurt a few bodies out there. He's not timid that's for sure.

I was hoping to see improved connectivity to our forwards, too many long bombs again.

TDK got better as the game went, he is so valuable in the air and on the ground.

Only a practice match but can’t see this team being a contender.

Too many holes on the list and injuries are starting to pile up.

Would need outstanding years from our midfield to be a contender, particularly Walsh & Cerra.

Hopefully I am wrong but have been disappointed for so long that my expectations continue to be low.

I hope he's wrong but I actually think Syd's right. We're done for this year.

I look forward to seeing a bit of development & mainly hoping Colingwood don't win it

I was at game.
Liked a lot of things I saw.

For those not at the game, the conditions were hot, dry and very windy
35 mph with regular 45 kmph gusts.
Putrid weather for footy.

Give you an idea …and it happened from first to last siren.
Boundary umpire throws in ball to a ruck set up.
Good throw to the rucks, only for the ball to be blown 5 metres from the rucks.

Before first siren, players casually kicking to each other in warm up.
What seemed to look like Great kicks off the boot we’re taken by the wind and blown over intended players reach.

Don’t believe everything you think you saw on TV.
I watched replay and I tell you you can’t feel the putrid conditions.
I was OK in the Legends stand, under cover with a cold can in my hand, a a beer wench to keep up the cold fluids.

Boys showed what they can do in the first quarter. The Saints looked like amatueurs. Then the team was thrown around, with 10 on the bench…a couple non named players played, and boys took foot off the pedal.

Bruise free footy.

Really wanted to see SOS at CHB, moves from Jagga, Harry and my boy Marty Carrol.
I have really high hopes OKeefe may have a breakthrough year and play AFL, and he ended up playing in the last and played well for that quarter. He can jump, has great reach and can play forward…he can compete against big ruckmen.

There’s a few players who have stepped up, and held their own.

Sorry to disappoint but Young is a different player this year. A different mindset. He’s become a painful backman to play against. He doesn’t stop niggling, pushing…unsociable…hick horror. He’s going to be important this year, and if he continues to play on quick after possession, well it works. He has height Gov, Haines, SOS and Kemp don’t have.

George Hewett was unbeatable and easily our best mid. Trustworthy. Best 15. So important…no, he won’t lose his spot to Lord,

Crippa is da man. Haines is a bonus, very quick and times his jump well. Williams is a class above, footy IQ through the roof, beautiful kick, and have to say well done Mots. Did you see Motlops first kick to goall? He didn’t make the distance, shoulda crossed it to TDK…but it was the wind that took the ball away from the drop.

Harry will have a huge year. Lemmey tried working with Harry, but I conditions weren’t ideal for anyone aerially. Tricky conditions…so don’t crucify either…temper expectations this month.

It was a practise game. I don’t know how anyone can read too much from the hit out.

Players from both teams were cramping. Haines will surprise what he brings and should be shocked at how cheap we got him. He has weapons.

Moir developing well. Finds space. Has good IQ, but still developing. Give him time. He’s a keeper, but gotta a way to go till he’s the finished product.

I’m heading to Canberra next week, where boys will step it up vs GWS with Walsh, SOS to play…I wouldn’t be surprised to see Young play despite SOS playing.

I can’t wait to watch the boys sharpen their sword over the next 2-3 weeks. Fix forward entry and we will be fine…smalls in the forwardline need to lead to boundary to open up lead lanes for Harry and Charlie, or be a genuine option… then if not targeted to double back looking for crumbs or connection.

It’s our year. I can feel it. Don’t slash your wrists…we are the real deal.

So, are you giving us a chance or writing us off before season starts?

I think Walsh and Cerra will star. Have no reason to think they won’t.

44 players on the list. Only 23 picked each week. Injury will determine every team’s chances

Newman leaves a hole, and Cowan can fill it. No one can replace Newman, but we have plenty of cover for his spot. I’m sure we will see Cincotta by midseason. Walsh back next week, Charlie round 1-2. Injuries look ok for now imo.

I was disappointed to see him starting midfield personally. He fumbles in traffic and isn't accountable enough. Too often he's looking to drop off and receive at stoppages instead of showing defensive intent. It's great to create space when one of your team mates wins the ball but not when it's in a contested situation.
Great half back and a good wingman but we're in strife if Doc is our 3rd choice mid.
