Embarrassing losses happen in all seasons… it’s how you deal with it that matters. Do you have the fight? I was pleased to see some 2nd half fight. Know who the fighters are going forward.
In 1970 - a premiership season - Carlton kicked 2 goals for the whole game against Collingwood. Did they give up? No. 1995 - they got pantsed by St Kilda. Etc.
Thoughts on players.
Hewett - easily best on ground. Has fight no matter what.
Cripps- was being held around the waist by Brisbane tagger at every contest. Pay the bloody free kicks!
Kemp - symbolised the battle (due to injuries) Carlton was up against. He was effectively a defender against Harris who went down the wing & neutralised many contests Carlton had.
Pittonet- always gives away many free kicks, and dropped a chest mark when Carlton was building. They scored a goal from it. He wouldn’t be part of my best 22 going forward unless he builds his game.
Kennedy - if they subbed out an above average midfielder-clearly a mistake. He wasn’t injured? He has fight. Could have subbed out Durdin, Cerra, Fantasia etc before even considering him a sub.
Could also add the following:
Williams - poor defender and his honeymoon as a forward appears to be over.
Young - I haven't been a fan but he was OK last night
O Hollands - has time on his side but needs to improve significantly. Lacks any real offensive weapons.
TDK - made a huge difference when he came on. Potential superstar.
Our small/medium forward trio of Durdin, Motlop and Fantasia were just so ineffective compared to the likes of Bailey and Lohmann who always look dangerous and make things happen. Hopefully Moir can step up next year.
Agree with most of your points.
Williams- loved his exuberance earlier in the year when kicking goals. Could be tried again as a forward in 2025. Not sure he has sustained zip needed for defence again.
Young- agreed. Would like to see him take the marks when he had no contest and instead he double fisted ball away… but I think he showed heart at least.
O Hollands..in bits I remember he wasn’t played on the wing, was on half back flank due to Docherty taking his position. He improved this year on his tackling. Didn’t do much last night. Needs to be able to play different roles as Acres is a lock for one wing, we need improvement on the other.
Agree with you on small forwards. Delist Fantasia, Durdin VFL, Motlop aim to improve.
TDK- he’s a colossus. Probably one of the big pluses for me out of this season = TDK.
Should aim for top 3 in b&f next season. Could win us a few games next year just on his impact alone.
