Lewis Young was an interesting second ruck option last year, around the ground such a solid mark. He's roughly the same height as Pitto and TDK, just 10-15 kgs lighter.

Lewis Young played his best footy as a first ruck last year (out of desperation). His biggest problem as a second ruck is that he, like Pitto, has basically no impact anywhere other than *in the ruck*. Yes, he *can* play as a tall defender, but when played as a second ruck he has zero impact forward. He's kicked a grand total of two goals in his entire career.

Quick question….

how can Charlie hit someone up from
65 metres…then scrub balls 10 metres
along the ground…?

it’s fascinating…!

kindest regards tommi

Par, for me, is to win 2 out of the next 3.

I feel like this weekend will sort out whether we are repeating last year’s form line or whether we have actually grown as a team. But unfortunately, like last year, it won’t fully sort it out if we win; only if we lose.

If we lose, I’ll reset my whole expectations and just hope we can come home with a wet sail like last year.
But if we win, then the test moves onto next week, and then the week after…

Agreed with the over inflation shout. Geelong's decision to "manage" Hawkins with Cameron already out tells us they were not willing to push the boat out too hard for a win in the tropics. You could argue the entire fixture was "managed". Suns took full advantage but I don't read anything into this result about either team. One can only hope it goes to their heads.

Except we really shouldn't be in a position where we have to hope our opposition is off their game for us to win!
We should be hoping our opposition is at full strength and still expecting, demanding we win!

I’m not yet convinced the two ruck combo is a bust.
I do believe, however, that we struggle with all three of Cripps, Hewett and Kennedy. I think Kennedy is more versatile, esp as a F50 target but Hewett is the better midfield option.
Of course, we are limited by injury atm.

That’s fair.

Two rucks, as a concept, has its place. But, you have to compensate at ground level.

The injury list is bringing our two ruck strategy undone - and the team unbalanced. I think, if Cerra & Cottrell were available, we probably wouldn’t be having this discussion.

Hewett & Kennedy are comfortably in the best 23 players at the club. They got steamrolled on the weekend - George, especially, was pushed around at will. They probably don’t play in the same side if the #s 35-40 aren’t called up.

It’s a question of balance. If we’re forced into a lack of ground level mobility, an extra ruck will only add a nail to the coffin.

I see that Ed Richards is doing decent work for the Dogs as an onballer. Might we pull the same move with Boyd? Especially with Saad (possibly) returning and Cincotta doing good work as a small defender...

He tries to drill it which is fair enough but he doesn't seem to do it well.
I'm more concerned with how many of his intended passes are smothered

Looks like he's powering up for a Street Fighter move the way he telegraphs it.

Well, assuming everyone passes their fitness tests:

Cincotta - Weitering - Marchbank
Saad - McGovern - Newman
Binns - Cripps - Acres
Fogarty - Curnow - Williams
Motlop - McKay - Owies
TDK - Walsh - Boyd

E. Hollands - Kemp - Kennedy - Carroll

SUB: C. Durdin

EMERGENCIES FROM :
Cowan (Saad's replacement if he doesn't get up)
S. Durdin (Weitering's replacement)
Young (Weitering's replacement if both he and Durdin don't pass their tests)
Hewett (Fog's replacement)
O. Hollands (Motlop's replacement)
Fantasia (who is no-one's replacement regardless of anything)
