I've heard that apart from Curnow, Thomas and Mick that is hated universally within the club.

Looking at our physical attributes against other teams, we seem non competitive.

Anybody that doesn't hate their physical trainer has never had a decent one. They love to be hated and unless you hate them they make you work until you hate them.
They live and breathe hate.

And when you outrun and outlast someone after 100 minutes on the footy field, rowing course, track, square ring or velodrome, you love them and they hate that so they make you work even harder.

The hamstring twangs are about the norm, but there's been quite a spate of calf injuries at our club.

ACLs are on the rise again too; more running in footy again.

Pre-buttifant we had silly amounts of ligament injuries, so I'll take this if it means long-term performance gains that we've been lacking since early on in Cordy's reign.

As for the Ratten comments, the following year they started to try and bulk up the playing group so they could win more at the clearances beyond Judd doing the bullocking work, and a whole host of players lost a yard. We're still paying for that now I think. That was on Cordy's watch.

There is no scientific basis to back this statement up. Resistance training doesn't slow you down.

Our players are weak, they need to hit the gym and hit it hard. Compare us to every other team. Almost all of our players have no muscle and look to be carrying too much puppy fat, look at the arms, shoulders and chests of our players against their opponents.

We should employ those guys who were on Redesign My Brain season 2 ep 1. (Both the Ex Army guy and the guy from the AIS that had Todd doing the milk bottle test).

We need mental and physical strength. Both have been missing for too long at Carlton.

The players were tiring very early in the season. Not sure what the pre season plan was but you would think running was important in a game like football.

Some of them put on 5 kilos, mostly in the upper body. Not sure where you're getting your info from but it was the right strategy at the time, and we looked good.

Then suddenly, the game changed (sub rule) and we didn't change fast enough with it. We're 2 seasons behind almost every other club.

Your assumption re: resistance training assumes that the exercises are functionally relevant to the tasks being performed. That's where I think Cordy [REDACTED] up.

He's right, though.
At Richmond, years ago, they used to train until Hafey spewed and by then all the players had because Hafey was so fit he was last to spew.
Talk bout training on a wet track. It must have been as bad as the dugout in the MLB with all the spittle lying about in puddles.

I think Eddie Betts 's apparent new shape says it all. He looks leaner and fitter than he ever was with us.

That bit resonates a bit with me. Many, many years ago I played footy in a country league under an ex-Carlton 1968 premiership player. He was of the opinion that I could harden up a bit and regularly told the team that we were going to keep doing wind sprints at training "until NTBlue spews." The coach believed (correctly) that we were less skillful than other teams and therefore had to be fitter and tougher to be successful. His strategy was right - we won the premiership the next year, we were fit and I didn't spew - not until day 3 of the celebrations anyway!

Buttifant and Betts were never at the club at the same time

How did we go from a side that was cooked halfway through the second quarter to running out games?
