Shouldn't they be focusing their attention towards the many thousands of Carlton fans who are not currently members. It seems to me therein lies the root cause of the problem.
Fine ask members for their views but converting non members is the real aim here.
I doubt our membership department would be able to produce a list for follow up.
I know many like myself who love the club, go regularly and take our kids but haven't been members for years.
That's a very naive view of things, unless they're completely dumb and inept these types of emails would be going to recent members that have an email address in the membership database.
One of the biggest issues across all clubs, and I suspect ours is one of the worst, is membership churn. Doesn't mean they still can't communicate to those who for whatever reason aren't members for a particular year.
Unlike some here, I can see a real difference in how the club are doing things. Just wish all areas were synergised at once and some sort of success was happening at the same time.
It's not naïve it's accurate. You won't make a dent om membership numbers by just getting the existing members to sign up every year. You need to aggressively pursue those who drop away for no other reason other than to understand why they have done so.
I can start you off with 2 very good reasons not to be a member; Pratt & Mathieson.
It's not a membership anyway. It's a subscription. Compare this to the way the MCC operates. They are proposing changes to entry requirements for restricted members. The changes are fully detailed and explained in clear simple language 1 year before a vote is put to members. No tricks no games just open honest communication.
Why on earth would you ever be a "member" of this club given the appalling manner in which loyal fans have been treated?
