Lucky we didn't use today to give holman and graham a run. Very dangerous ag the power of the saints. Might have meant we only won by 80 pts

Considering the kids Mick has shown faith in in Menzel, Buckley, Johnson, Cripps (prior to injury) and Docherty, have all slotted in nicely at AFL level, I'd be backing his knowledge of player development over that of keyboard warriors any time of the day.

Docherty was all class today. I was a big fan his draft year (as we all were) so to get him now is such a bonus. He has such great skills and footy smarts.

Likewise Everitt whose versatility is as good as any in the AFL. His ability to play forward, back or tag is terrific for the 22.

Menzels 1st half was all class.

I know StKilda were very poor today but I was happy to see so many players run into form regardless. Hendo, Zac, Walks, Levi, Rowey and many others just got a huge injection of self confidence. Our run home is as tough as any going with trips to Sydney, Perth and Adelaide but the rest of the year is really important to 2015 for so many.

I know that is Capt Obvious talking but some guys can really imprint their names in Micks mind from here on in.

Really interesting to just hear David King say that Waites card is marked and he will play out 2014 in the VFL. It is an interesting scenario. If Mick thinks the future is Rowey at CHB and Levi at FF then I would be happy to see Waity running on the wing if he gets back. But all that does it take a spot from a kid perhaps.

If Waity doesn't look like playing in 2015 in Micks 22 then give the spot to a kid.

Jeffy now has to push past Blaine (who was very good today) and Troy who was even better. Once Bucks comes back in then perhaps he or Yaz can sneak forward if required.

I reckon Mick will be really looking forward to see who stands up the rest of the year. And so say all of us.

Regards Cazzesman

Menzel will have fitness test before game - if he fails will miss 34 weeks

Just back from the game after dinner and enjoyed what use to be the normal day at the footy against the Saints, except there were no Carlton retreads playing for them.

I was only going to be happy with a 15 goal win and we were close.

The crowd was so quiet and generally disinterested in getting into it other than when goals were kicked or Casboult took a huge mark.

The were so many dropped marks ...in an indoor game at 17 degrees. Both sides played like bottom 2 teams.

We do have the foundations of a good team, but some of our older players should be traded or retired.

I'm over Walker in defence. Like MM Walker has another year like MM. Trade Walker if we get d 2nd rounder or play him forward or midfield and make him earn his keep. He is lazy at times and that is reflected in his kicking.

Brock did some good things today but he was against no opposition. I don't know who his opponent was but he seemed on his own. Unaccountable? Doesn't matter. He has a good pass by foot, but he needs more tools. Bye

I'm have joined the retire Carrazzo side. He is so slow.

Simmo has lost form since he was tagged out of the game by the Giants' Palmer. He needs to get back on his bike if we are going to hold hope for him in 2015 as an old man.

Hendo did well but he tired a bit, his kicking for goal in the warm up was horrible, and he missed a few in the real deal...and missed some easy marks. He did improve a lot this week, but his opponent was weak as piss, like most Saints.

Imagine if the Saints didn't miss targets today. The score would be a lot different.

We won thanks to crap served up by Saints, favourable umpiring and a great game from Casboult Everitt Murphy Yarran Tuohy (about time) Jamison Judd Rowe.....Hendo was good as was Menzel Johnson Bell white Gibbs and Doc was ok at times.

We paid too much for Thomas. He ain't going to get faster. Hopefully he improves on the smarts and execution.

Warnock is pathetic.....3rd game I've seen him in a row. He's a liability. Lazy. Weak. Unskilled. Overrated ruck work. Come back Kreuzer.

We do have foundations of a good team. Other than Casboult Yarran and Hendon, who are going to be the stars of the team when Judd retires?

I hope we squeeze another year from Judd. We will need him next year.

How good was Bell's shepherd for Hendo in the third quarter? Absolutely destroyed the Saints player.

Most promising players are Casboult and Menzel. Levi is a few years off, but he is big, mobile, a long if inaccurate kick and an excellent contested mark. That is a lot to build on. Everitt has been a good pick up. Yarran is one of the most gifted players in the AFL. Thomas was very good two years back, but is very average, and doesn't seem any quicker than he was at season's start. Carrazzo might be just about cooked, recurring calf injuries aren't great at his age. We'll get a bead on where we are over the next three weeks

You have to give Malthouse some credit.
It seems the side so far has not thrown in towel and rolled over for the year.
They are playing with some passion and desire and for that you need to tip your hat to the coach.
I hope he surrounds himself with some tactical match day coaches next year.

..levi is already there I reckon.. ..another strong pre season and he'll be running out games every week.. ....he's going to improve from here to the end of the year, I think he's had a steady rate of improvement..

We just watched the whole game again from beginning to end; and we were impressed, notwithstanding we weren't playing the top side.

OK.....we blew the second qtr....but we showed some really good signs...I call it attackability.

I think Menzel is a class act....Levi is getting better each week....White and Everitt are like Hendo....can play anywhere.....Johnson shows plenty of potential.....and Brock and Daisy are very creative if you watch the game again....forever gainng a possie and feeding it out.....Docherty is a good get for the side and can only get better....Tom Bell is a wrecking ball for us and underrated.....Juddy; whilst not the superstar he once was, still influences games as always....as does Walks and Carrots and Simmo and Bryce and Murph....we can't expect them to dominate games (or the midfield) as they once did......but hope they can again.

Warnock?....not sure....I was always a Sauce fan....but the big fella still did some good work today.

But hey!.....we won by 85 points !!!!...I'll take that any day.

Except for the witches hats which continually kicked the ball back directly to us.
