"I'd like to clarify my comments made on SEN the other day, when I referred to Carlton being permitted to enter this year's finals series as a result of Essendon**'s cheating.

I retract this comment and would like to take this opportunity to clarify the club's position on this.

Essendon** did not cheat. They were expelled from this year's finals series for engaging in a pharmacologically experimental program engaged in and implemented by their staff on the playing group, without sufficient checks and balances to ensure that it was conducted fairly, ethically, safely or legally. It was conducted on a scale never seen before in the history of this great game and deservedly resulted in the heaviest sanctions ever enforced by the league. Noting that this sanctions were implemented as part of a settlement with the Essendon** Football Club for their cooperation with the investigation process, one can only imagine what the full extent of penalties may have been if the hearing before the AFL Commission was allowed to run its full course.

The distinction of my position on these matters is important and I thank the Essendon** Football Club for allowing me the opportunity."

Love how Barrett said that people at our club were a little bemused by Essendon**'s actions, thinking that the Scum should have bigger problems to worry about then this kind of thing.
