Its about getting the best out of the team you select, that's what a good coach can do. He's not doing that.

Best loss we have had this year. Beaten by a club with purpose and hardness.

This was a team with 6 first year players in it and yet they were that much better when it mattered - in the 1st and lat qtrs.

Best loss for us this year if we take note and make the tough choices.

he already is playing 3 rookie mids or something.....

Perhaps they got the graphic wrong - it could have been a death notice for our season!!

Sorry, off topic I know but WTF??!!!!

Sydney won the premiership last year and I think they are the best side in the comp this year.

Is it conceivable that they have improved far more than we have?

Results would suggest so.

We seem to drop our bundles when someone stuffs up.

It was Lucas a few weeks ago and when Walker dribbled that attempt everyone just goes flat.

The mistakes are one thing but FFS fellas you need to keep your heads up.

Was a bad miss but I saw it more as the team tiring after working so hard to come back than it dropping its bundle.

I thought we ran the game out reasonably but stopped like we were shot after that.

We go from pressing and pressing and running hard before and after the 2E goal to nothing after the Walker miss.

Not much belief in this crew.

Sydney got back on top of us in the last quarter though - we had expended a lot of energy just to get back into the match. I don't think it's right to say that we stopped purely as a result of Walker's miss.

I'm not blaming Walkers miss (although the tv suffered a minor tremor) I'm blaming our reaction to it.

Mistakes happen all the time. Sydney kicked point after point after point but still they came.

Apparently many think our mids are shit and not up to it. Wouldnt you expect him to try other players then? What would you do?

He was dead unlucky tonight.

If that's holding the ball, I give up. I give up anyway, but geez...what are you meant to do?

Oh, don't get me wrong. It was a shithouse decision - as I whined in the game thread, the umpires went into hyper-home-team mode to make up for the Bootsma goal. One free kick in the next 50 minutes as the dominant team in atrocious conditions tells its own story. And shocking decision aside, it was Tuohy's fault for not shepherding. That's why I feel so bad for Lachie - the general public and commentators are calling him this classy young player who chokes at the death, but tonight it was a teammate and an umpire who were to blame, and against Essendon* it was Yarran's pisspoor effort more than the kick. Hendo doesn't deserve this kind of association.

The UMPs hardly pay a free all night and yet Sydney's last two goal are a result of free kicks in the forward line.
Its not that they weren't there but if you don't pay the same ones down one end then ........anyway.

Needed more big bodies I would have liked to have seen Bell in the middle tonight.

I agree with the mids. We need more in our 22 and less of the Bootsma and White positions.

......but surely something could have been done about that last pre season. Trade a ruck, trade a forward pocket or trade one of the halfbackers. A couple more mids on the list right now would be great.

Yeah nice try. I saw MM coaching specifically about wet weather football and guess what? The team played a shitload better after that.

Mick is an excellent coach. Now he just needs the right playing group. It will come.

The fact that he needed to school these duds on how to play wet weather footy is an indictment on our list

What other players through the midfield??

Personally id only be looking at Menzel.. should be in next week...!!!
Then maybe Graham and at a stretch Bell... the rest wont be much chop ....

Still have Carrazzo and Murph out injured... but that shouldnt make that much of a difference.

Id probably only be relying on
McKiness
Menzel

Then Bell and Graham

and the 2 injureds.. thats it!!!

But we dont have a hell of alot we can call upon TO MIX THINGS UP!!!

thats the probem....

Buckleys useless.. cos he can only come in for a small forward.

The rest are hbfer types or crappy talls!!!

Agree 100% with this. I dont think you can fault his intent on both occasions. The other 95% of the game was standout BOG tonight, while he was also amongst the best against Essendon*.

If our boys would stop looking up to the heavens and actually concentrate on pressuring the kick-in, those near misses may just be the prelude to a goal. It's true, no good team suffers as greatly from the near misses as we seem to.

Won't get too much argument from me there. It's as if they forgot the hundreds of games they played growing up on shit ground in the wet.

Wait, maybe it's climate change and doughts that are to blame??? :!:

Played dumb football in the first half trying to be tricky with short passes and excessive handballs.

Did no one tell these imbeciles it was raining?

Agree that Touhy's lack of a shepherd was costly. But there are dozens of examples like this every match.

It's the small difference between us and the serious contenders, explaining why we are always so close but not quite there.

I just don't get how Laids can not get a run! Seriously the bloke was dominant in the back half before getting injured and now gets overlooked for Bootsma?

Just blows my mind that it's even an option! Bootsma's had a taste and is not up to standard. Send him back where he can bulk up and smarten up. Laids has experience and would solidify out back half.

I'm over these gallant losses. Something's gotta give.......

I can't believe supporters are still banging on about Ratts. Malthouse has proven himself over the years to be a great coach. Ratts was a nice guy but just wasn't cut out to be a senior coach. Malthouse is the reverse. He's a self absorbed prick, but the man can coach.

They've improved and we've gone backwards. We were clearly a better team than them in 2011.
