I'm starting to warm to Malthouse. You can tell he "loves" his players. His interview with Richo showed a man who was hurting but still proud of his players. Good sign IMO.

This year is about commencing the process of constructing a team that will stand up in finals. Won't happen this year but I was satisfied with what I saw tonight.

QFT. What about the deliberate out of bounce against JUdd when Hawthorn did it... nothing.

That's two weeks in a row that I feel we outplayed the (quality) opposition, but lost.

Not sure how to feel about it?

Best three and a half quarters this year no doubt. Seemed to lose the ability to spread a bit probably brought on by loss of murph and robbo.

Baffling umpiring in the second half and a real change overall from last week. Judd was right this week...it's a bit of chook lotto as to what get paid and what doesn't ...it's a bit like the special of the week.

BUT.... We had our chances and whilst I am filthy on the umps, we missed the opportunity to kick the goals that counted- Curnow and Eddie missed handball to walks in the square.

Having said that, I am really proud of the effort tonight by all...Gibbs best game for a long time and kruezer was great. But simple things hurt us - jeffy not keeping his feet in the third that resulted in a goal to them.

And I think we went a long way to show them we can't be pushed around like we have in the past.

We are close...so close.... And we will win more than not if we give like that every week.

On the right track. Need to fill some holes next recruiting period. I have great expectations for next year.

apart from our effort, the best aspect of tonight's game was Gibbs. He was superb in the clearances. I have been wanting to say that for 6 years. Hopefully, he can continue as he will need to step up with Judd towards the end of his career.

Ditto re Gibbs...al class...can't hammer him for the fumble in the last 2 mins.
Scotto and Simmo outstanding too

Gibbs fumble led to a goal. Directly to a goal without passing 'go'.

He had a good game tonight, including some in and under stuff but if people are going to crucify Lucas for being genuinely outmarked and we are going to gloss over Gibbs's fumble under not that much pressure, we are just playing favourites.

Personally I think Armfield, Curnow, Casboult's easy misses from close in were more important to the loss than anything else.
It's been typical of our footy since well before this year. Poor finishing from set shots.

The problem is ....... how do we know Judds wasnt deliberate and Hawthorns was???
The silliness with AFL is umpires are mindreaders now...

Yep. This is not going to be our year, but for the first time in ages I am starting to feel like we can compete with anyone, anywhere, anytime. Now we have to turn 'competing' into winning.

Already in his 7th season so a couple more years won't change much. Can play but he's down the pecking order as far as first ruck here goes and is terrible as a key forward. Fair enough though he's a ruckman, not a forward. Be good for him to go to another club where he could maybe blossom as first ruck.

I honestly think we do, but they aren't good enough.

We need 4-5 more A-B graders next year to reach top 4.

We have the Coach, we have the Game Plan, we just need more top talent.

That's right, Malthouse is the improvement in the side, not some major revelations from the playing group. Plus there's the fact that some of the players that we have our hopes in are not getting any younger. We need a raid on free agency (and hope for a minor miracle) and still need to make the tough decisions and keep getting the kids in. I'd be very surprised if we won one in the Judd/Waite era.

I can understand

Tonight was better than last week as Hawthorn is a better team. We should have won last week. Have thrown two games in Essendon* and St Kilda unfortunately. We win those two games and we probably make the eight.

I don't feel too bad as I think we are rebuilding and I did some good signs tonight. Need some more depth and polish on our list. If players like Menzel and Graham come on quickly then you never know what we could do in the next 2-3 years.

Just home from the game, so disappointing yet again but proud of the effort.
That umpiring in the second half was disgraceful, i hope the club asks the umpiring dept for a please explain. Stats were 15 frees to Hawthorn and 4 to us in the second half.
I am just watching the replay and the goal that Hawthorn got with the goal review was in fact a free to Simpson for over the shoulder/in the back.
Great games by McLean, Simpson, Gibbs and Cachia.
Hope Murphy is okay and not out for too long.
Henderson had a howler.

there's so many blunders kezza..it will be painful or you to watch. oh, and sit through the commentary where they overlook our players getting attacked by thugs, and ..where we tackle, and it's a no brainer hoding the ball..and it's overlooked. except when it's cachia, who is penalised after having the ball for a full nanosecond.

apart from that..wow...some amzing play by our boys tonite. almost..almost!!!
