Yes, If I was a board member with no idea about footy, they'd probably be the ideal questions.
If he went through a proper interview process, I'd ask-

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Carlton List?
You were successful with the defensive press but later in 2011, you were being exposed with it. What are the current trends of the game and what methodology would you employ with the Carlton list?
You had one of the strongest AFL assembled lists at West Coast which is recognised by most AFL commentators. After winning a flag in 1994, it took you another 17 years to win a flag, Why?
What team have you locked in to bring with you?
In the 2011 GF, all recognised AFL experts concede you erred dramatically by not moving Reid off Hawkins. Did this cost Collingwood the GF and if so, why didnt you make a move?
You preached solidarity and a team first mentality at Collingwood and you then made it all about you with interviews on the footy show and other media. Why?
You have been non commital about coaching again. How do we know you wont change your mind 10 games into the season?
You've said your wife and family dont want you to coach again. How will this impact upon your ability to do the job?

Hows that for starters?

Ah, you'd be the 'difficult' board member who's always making things harder than they need to be. Look, Swanny's had a good chat to Mick and Bear's good with it all, so thanks for your input but I think we know what we're doing here. Crownie?

Yeah. I dont know what came over me.

That'd be nice.

The MM and Cloke combo don't excite me as much as Paul Roos would.
The discipline of Paul Roos led teams extends to off field too. Collingwood had as many off field dramas as anyone. MM doesnt care that much.

To negotiate a better price for MM the club would like the world to think Roos is a chance.

MM is a lot of things but stupid isnt one of them, he knows we would have to offer a ridiculously stupid amount (eg. relative to St.Kilda's offer to Malcolm Blight) to even get Paul Roos to think about it changing his mind.

But i think most Carlton people are still a bit freaked out by the prospect of Malthouse at the helm. If the train I was in on the weekend was taken as a sample the club would be concerned about signing MM.

Roos would cost more but MM knows Carlton would be willing to pay him more than himself. It could still be used as a bargaining tool to keep a lid on MM's contract.

I don't think $ would be the problem with Roos. The simple fact of him saying Yes is the problem. If he wanted to do it, the money would be there. Jeannie would sign the cheque herself I think.

god , its no secret really that certain powerbrokers see Roos as first choice

only hurdle has been the man himself saying yes

#1 says no, you move onto #2 which is that guy the other really big thread is about

It all part of the process..... the perception is we approached the best.....
and we directed our energies towards the best.....
and we got the best available.....

"We've also spoken to Paul Roos" - Greg Swann

Can't help but feel that any remaining buzz stirred-up regarding Roos, the stated public intent to 'call' him, and Swann's token name-drop during the Blue Print today, are merely cynical efforts to further disguise the fact that there was no 'process', and that all the eggs have been thrown into the Malthouse basket. All done safely in the knowledge that Roos is unavailable, but hey, it'll appease those on the board who are firmly in the Roos camp, right?

All not very convincing from where I sit, and it feels we're all being taken for fools to an extent. Maybe just ye olde Carlton arrogance, perhaps.

EDIT: soundly beaten by the preceding handful of (more succinct!) posts.

If those in charge decided Ratts was a long shot at best back in May, had a good look at it and decided that we needed someone more experienced and preferably someone who had won a premiership before . then spent time asking around and ended up with Roos and Malthouse as the two they wanted then it still has to be considered a process. Probably more a long winded exhaustive process than those clubs that do the ol' put together a panel and interview everyone with the media knowing about it technique.

Malthouse will get the gig. I will be sick....life we go on.

All the same if we land Paul Roos it will be the coup of the century.
