Means nothing. Every Football Manager has sat in the coaches box every match for as long as I've been involved.

There is no "good way" to do this unfortunately. I love Rats and always will but the sad reality is that Mick Malthouse is a far better coach and he is available.

These sentiments were no different at Fremantle last year when Harvey was sacked for Lyon.

I still think Freo made the right business decision.

What s a good way exactly?

anyway peeps - for all you arguing the fact, there WERE NO leaks to media, it was released when the media meant it to be. for all the 'ears on the ground' or 'people on the inner' no-one reported this accurately until 20 different people within Fox sports wall leaked it about 25 mins before it aired.

so in actuality, it wasnt leaked at all.

25 mins prior to public airing isn't a leak.

So anyone know who's coaching next year?

And Thankyou Brett Ratten - Thankyou thankyou thankyou.

I shall quietly shit myself every time we face you and your next team in the oncoming future

In the current era of 24hr news cycles and social media every coach sacking is going to look like a circus. This is no different.

Gone are the days when news copy had to churn through an entire system to be reported the next day at the earliest; now twitter feeds are seen as reliable sources of information and regularly used to report "news".

Thank you Brett Ratten for providing many highlights throughout your tenure. You had the chance to coach the team that you played and captained with distinction, and can now sit back and enjoy your team once again from outside the pressure cooker environment that may have made you hate the place if you had endured.

I hope that we have a succession plan beyond Malthouse; who is in my view an adequate band aid for the short term. Maybe Scotty Burns or other up and coming coach can take the reins once the team has been reviewed by an experienced coach which is why I believe that Malthouse is the best choice in the short term.

Lots of conflicting stories at the moment. I get the impression the club has made and unofficial decision and it has been leaked. Probably wasn't supposed to be announced until after next week. God I hope the Clone rumours aren't right though....

We are going to replace Ratts with Ratts?
