Waite gave away about 5 stupid, pointless frees. Why does he do it?

Frustration. He was scragged and bashed all night, for no reward from the umps, yet every move he made was scrutinised minutely. Not defending him, but can't say I entirely blame him.

Agree KK. Not only was the umpiring a disgrace last night and so obviously biased towards Sydney but the treatment of Waite was more than disgraceful, it was insulting. We need to highlight this and get a please explain from them this week. Put them under the tourch!

I don't have any sympathy for Waite in those situations, he needs to learn to control his temper and frustration, even when things don't go his way. He shouldn't be giving away stupid frees.

It's called discipline. For a senior player Waitey is very undisciplined at times.

PROS

Never say die attitude (last night and every game thus far in 2011)
Robbo provided the energy, desperation and commitment required in a wet weather contest.
Midfield led by Judd just brilliant.
Another 3 Brownlow votes for C.Judd
I still believe we can make the GF in 2011.
Setanta in the wet (I hope he can do the same in the dry...he aint a ruckman though)
Jamison was absolutely amazing. (I'm sure Walls will be happy with the new tricks he's bought to the table)
Ratten and the MC. Good selections and obviously the strategy worked as we grinded them into submission.
We won without Kreuzer, Henderson, Bower, Yarran, Houlihan (and imo Watson)
Great to see a Carlton win in Sydney, and the huge Carlton support at the game.
Everything Carlton

CONS

Waite giving away silly and clumsy free kicks and handing the ball nack to the Swans
Joesph giving away too many silly and clumsy frees too.
We need a bigger and stronger body than what we have for CHF and CHB.
Missed seeing the big bodied Kreuzer pay as a ruck rover in those conditions against the Swans.
Umpiring in the first half definetely favoured Swans

I actully thought the umpiring in the first half was not only fairly good, but also consistent. The umpiring in the second half where the umps looked like they were doing their best to give control back to the Lollipops.

KK about the 7 games in Syndey, that is the SCG ones. There has been at least another 2 at Homebush in that time (one a final). Doesn't take away from your point though.....

Oh, OK. I thought the quote I heard this morning on the radio was it was the first time we had won in Sydney in 7 matches, not first time in 7 matches at the SCG.

For me I really liked the way Waite handled having a poor game... Normally he would have punched someone or let a leg fly, but even when gave away a few free kicks he didn't lose it like he would have in the past.

Yes he still throws around his body without much thought and in the wet 8/10 it will end in a free against, but I thought he had it in check for the most part and was happy to not see him lose it!

To those of you who say Setanta isn't a ruckmman, have a look at the role he/Hammer has to play. 25% in the ruck 75% up forward. He at least provides a contest in the ruck even getting a few taps and is mobile around the ground. And just much better forward than Hammer especially his understanding with Betts.

Better Setanta running around like a chook with its head chopped off than Hammer standing around looking non plussed.

Not for the first time this year White's physicality had an impact on the game with Jack coming off second best in a contest and not being able to run with Judd for the rest of the game. Don't underestimate how much impact this had on the result.

His flexibility is pretty handy as well. Looks pretty comfortable when playing forward. The fact he went forward and kicked a goal made up a bit for being outmarked at the other end.

Robinson was about the only player in Navy Blue last night to put his head over the ball and body on the line the entire match.

Would've won about 6 free kicks last night, if his name was Jude Bolton, Adam Goodes or Ben McGlynn. I reckon he's dropped off a little the last 2 weeks, but love what he brings to the team.

The BIG Carlton crowd. Seriously, don't give me any of this absolute bullshit about there not being enough support in Sydney to request matches up here every year.

I thought the crowd support for Carlton was huge (like it is at a lot of our interstate games). A real plus. And great to see the players going around to acknowledge them at the end.

Just got back from Sydney and am a very happy man. Judd was unreal. Just unbelievable. Curnow, Ellard, Robinson etc were great and I though Setanta was a great move. Hopefullu Eddie's perforward will shut some people up. As a forward pocket specialist your going to have bad games. Its a hard position and if the ball isnt falling your way it can look bad. He was the difference when we needed it. Well that is without considering the superstar in no. 5.

Did Juddy just play the best wet weather game ever by a human being?

Come on, Gerry. Great game, but not even close to what the best player of all time, Andrew Krakouer, has and will show. (Not to mention Dyson Heppell.) :donk:

Pros
- Gutsy win showing lots of character. 3 times this year (Richmond, Adelaide & Sydney) we have fought back to win when the chips were down and things were going against us.
- Judd showing why he is still No 1
- Jamo fast becoming an A Grade defender
- We are so much better in the clinches this year due to the recruitment of Curnow and the emergence of Robbo and Ellard.

Cons
- Umpiring favouring Sydney
- Waite's brain fades
- Not sure about White, Joseph and Armfield

Big BIG pro:-

Carlton Supporters!!!!!

I was at the game and I reckon we had less than 20% of the crowd, but we made it sound like there were 10x the amount!

Was in a bar afterwards and the song was dung about 12 times!

Great game!

Pros-
Judd, that's the best game I've seen him play for us. His last qtr was superb, especially given the conditions. I was in awe... Unbelievable

Eddie, well done after being down, need to keep up that intensity

Setanta, excellent move by Ratts bringing him in over Hammer, I thought he was critical creating a contest and rucking, excellent first up game

Gibbs, I've been very critical of his effort, but it seems he loves a big job on a good player, great defensive game on Goodes

Jamo - super back there, really good dash and reading the ball well

Top team effort in conditions that I thought would have suited the swans

Cons - waite needs to stop giving away stupid frees

- getting caught on the rebound with no defenders back

- Russell needs to lift

isnt that a result of the playing the press? Collingwood get caught out when teams get over the press quickly too. In time it will happen less to us but not from having players back but because we will get better at the press.

We're doing much, much better at preventing opposition sides kicking a score. However, we're still allowing too many goals dribble through the goalsquare without someone back to intercept.

Pros:

Great win that will do us wonders
Judd
Jamison - nice to see him attacking more
Judd
Ellard & Curnow. Add to our workrate and depth. Both vital.
Judd
I still see Kruezer, Henderson, Yarran, Bower, Watson, Touhy and possibly McLean in our best side.

Cons:

Slow starts
Waite playing a key position role in wet. Should of been moved onto ball.
Ruck - we lack that 'presence' on th ball. Someone with some competitive mongrel. Thought Setanta helped.
