1 Mil is not such a big deal really.

Its only about 40 yrs of TC's player sponsorship money going down the toilet.

Seriously though corporate members are more expensive "sponsors" compared to regular members....we require no maintenance.

Its estimated a club will spend 20-40% of the value of a corporate sponsorship servicing that sponsorship.
It's not just stick the logo on the jumper and collect the cash.

The club has to provide functions, players, boxes and incurs a host of other costs shmoozing these corporate sponsors.

Losing a $1mil sponsorship may be a net loss of around 700k

Only $700k, phew, that’s a relief.

I’m just off for a dump. Anyone have some spare $100 notes, we’re all out of poo tickets.

Now thats !@#$%& funny!!!

Food for thought.

i'd be surprised if the Mars organisation would be interested sponsoring on a significant basis ie target market is too narrow to be investing large $. However, they are made up of 3 independent businesses in Oz - sauces/condiments, confectionery and Petfood. Perhaps the 3 divisions have got together.

Masterfoods (condiments, sauces etc) wouldn't have the marketing spend to throw at it (ie they turn over $300 million per annum and profits are not gold standard!!). An independent association would be a very small one.

Mars confectionery makes reasonable profits - however a large sponsorship of a single footy club doesn't make sense ie too narrow against the target audience. Besides the decision maker for Mars confect is a mad, mad Saints supporter. Perhaps they maybe be interested in 'promotional' one offs similiar to their previous association ie Mars M&M's.

Mars Petfood hasnt been mentioned on the news - might be some consideration. Much bigger business than the other two in the portfolio, with revenues of approx $800 million. Pets? maybe some value. Interestingly one of the 'spins' Mars petfood has used over the years is to include employees and their favourite pet on the label of some of their brands. Perhaps we might see Juddy and his cat on the back of a 'chicken and rice' meal or maybe the Krooz and his favourite great Dane on the back label of some liver treats???????

Consumer brands and footy associations tend to be very narrow unless you can have some stake at the AFL competition level. Mars will only make it happen if they could co-ordinate some interesting and complex marketing intiatives that could work across their multiple divisions.

Mars wa locked in by the Tassie consortium as their major sponsor if the bid had been successful.

There is a part of me that thinks this organisation links itself to deals that will most likely not get off the ground and in the process get free publicity without spending a cent.

Their past endeavours rightly fuel your scepticism. I had similar thoughts.

In terms of advertising time slots I would imagine one of the most expensive advertising time slots on TV is the Sunday news due to the consistent higher than average ratings. Last Sunday Channel 9 gave them about 4 commercials for free. Us Carlton supporters might not have liked it but there are plenty of other club supporters who would have loved it.

No but according to Carlton, they were in discussions with 3 or 4 companies. Yet Mars are the only ones making the headlines. :?
This is the same company that leached publicity off the Tassie AFL push, knowing full well that the probability of putting their hand in their pocket was next to zero.

They can belt their Mars bars up their clackers as far as I'm concerned.

All puns aside, when is the deadline for merchandise designs?

Surely they must need to confirm the sponsor fairly soon?

When it comes to the Crunchie, the deal should be done, otherwise we'll all be left in a Twirl.

You're right, this sponsorship deal should have been a Picnic. Despite the player shenanagins the club has good Pedigree so let's hope they get a Wrigley on to finally sort this out.

Polly Waffle on all you like CB, if the deal isn’t sugar coated a bit we might all need to ‘have a break’ or alternatively Chomp at the bit.
