My 40th is/was supposed to be next Saturday night - I've moved it to mid October.

This is finals football, you can't let people giving you presents get in the way.

Hurmph, My 40th was some years ago apparently, but then I refused to acknowledge I turned 18

BTW Duke you are way to young to be a reactionary conservative

Sparky, this needs to be resolved NOW!!! Because you are going to have the same problem next year and the year after that and so on. Suggest you celebrate it a week earlier, that way she will think you are a 'sweetie' because not only do you remember but you celebrate it earlier ( do not forget to lop a couple of yeras off her age though)

TELL her your going to the game..............................

Then suprise her at dinner with a giant bunch of flowers and make her believe that she's the most important thing in the world.

Trust me, it'll pay dividends!

Buy your way out of it with sexual favours.
If, however, your prowess isn't up to scratch then I'm afraid I cannot help you any further.

So I'm too young to be heartless, and you're too old to be brainless  .

This is simple

Call me Dr Goltzenberg.

Make Dinner start at 6-6:30, have your meal by 7:30 - 8 and go watch the footy at a nearby pub
After the game, meet up with your girlfriend and carry on with drinks. Just tell her how much this game means to you and you wont have a good time at dinner if you miss the game, she should understand. You win both ways.

Worst thing that might happen is you miss the 1st quarter. That way shes happy and your happy, if she doesn't like that arrangement then she is a bit selfish.

Worst thing you can do is let her win this over you. Her Bday will be around every time the finals are on, so its time to draw a line in the sand.

Finals - first time in 8 years, if you don't watch this game then l dont think Carlton means that much to you, or you are just under the thumb/pussy whipped :)

Sparky,
I've been thinking..
Good news: You are gonna have this problem for quite a few years to come.
Bad news: See above.
Her b'day will come around our finals campaign.
You won't know exactly which day it will be.
You will have Groundhog day if you don't address it now.
Plan for a mutual b'day before finals start.
This year..only you'll know what to do in the end.
Personally,of all these responses,I've liked the girls only idea.
Instead of making you guys feel bad, they should just have some fun themselves.
Then you offer her a o'night stay in 5 star hotel in town with dinner, and brekkie in bed as soon as the blues drop out of the race.
That way you are covered until we win th GF.

Seriously, after 8 years, you'll not have been having sex for the last 7. So seriously, what have you got to lose but half a mortgage?

FOOTY.

Ok, here's the update.

Eating at the family dinner last night... everyone jovial and chatty and stuff.

One of her friends going on Saturday night turns to me and says:

"She doesn't want to have dinner on Saturday night"

Me: "Really, why is that?!"

"I don't know, ask her"

I know full well why - and she knows I know why, but I still have to ask why anyways.

"Honey, why don't you want to have dinner on Saturday?!" :|

Her: "Just don't feel like it"

Hmmmmmm..

She later tells me that - if we had the dinner she knew I'd rather the footy, and she'd feel ultra guilty.

Whereas, if we didn't have the dinner and I watched the footy - she'd know I'd feel guilty.

(To which I respond, "Uhh... yeah! Of course!! :sly: - seriously thought I would!)

She didn't wan't to go and just say that I was watching the footy because she would have felt silly after
'the sisterhood' got stuck into on of the other fellas for his 'drinks after footy' thing.

So rather than do that, she just decided to cancel the whole thing.

The girls are still trying to convince her, but I believe she I staying firm.

So I feel like this   , but I also feel like this

I do feel guilty. But it wasn't like I had to put my foot down!! I must remain strong, get to watching the
game on Saturday night - then freakin' work my ass off to show that it was appreciated. Especially if we win
and she has to put up with me afterwards with a few sherbets in my system...

Ahh... that my friends, is a keeper right there.

Just as a postscipt.

My bloke senses are tingling... for some reason I get the feeling that although I'm getting
what I want, I'll be paying for this for quite some time yet...

Seriously Sparky...
Your relationship needs some work.
That sounds like a Woody Allan script.
Good luck.

Easy fix.

Pull a sickie and stay home in bed and watch it. If she doesn't believe you, rush to the dunny and stick the fingers down throat and chuck up (pretend if you have too)
Try and fake a fever.

If all else fails, grow a set of kahunas and tell her your watching the footy. You can go out anytime.

Once again, the recommendation is some outstanding work after dark. She won't mind then.
