I'll just leave these words in this thread:

"...the man who really counts in the world is the doer, not the mere critic-the man who actually does the work, even if roughly and imperfectly, not the man who only talks or writes about how it ought to be done." - Theodore Roosevelt, 1891

I don't care what you say about Russell....

.... he played a very good game today; his second in a row.

I'm looking forward to more of the same.

Back yourself JR!

Used his pace a bit better today, needs to keep backing himself...not sure you can teach someone footy smarts and that he does not have...but his positives today outweighed the negatives.

 ...seriously though some of his decision making at times is silly to be honest....you know how some players always look cool calm and collected well JR is the opposite...but when he runs and breaks the lines he offers something to the side and thats pace....dropping him worked liked a charm.

Played a very consistent 4 qtrs. Ran hard, tackled hard, kicked well on both sides of his body (even considering the conditions), dished out handballs to advantage. One of our best eaasily. Playing the role that Houlihan should be

JR is so far ahead as a footballer than Houlihan that it would be an insult to compare the two...

REALLY impressed with his game today, close to his best. Good day for this article to come out, as I think it sums things up pretty well.
Quote:
Russell, 22, took a stand the previous week after finding himself playing for Northern Bullants in a curtain-raiser before the Geelong-Port Adelaide game at Skilled Stadium, starting at 9.40am.

"I just thought to myself, 'This is not where I want to be'," he said.

"When I got back the next week, I thought, 'I've got my chance, I'm not going to let go. Just give it a crack'. As Ratts would say, pull out the one wood and have a crack.

I think the run in the 2's did him a world of good, especially now knowing that his place in the team is not a foregone conclusion. Now let's hope that certain other players in the same boat make the same realisation, and that JR can present these sorts of results against the better teams.

Exactly...some players need to be reminded that non application will not be tolerated....full credit to him for bouncing back.

Im not a bagger of JR but doesn't say much about our depth when JR is in our top 5 today.

I'd still have him in the side before Stevens and he is very much worth persisting with

wouldnt it say a good thing about our depth?

that a depth player can step up and be in the top 5

that we can win when our top liners are down ?

we cruised to victory albeit against shit opposition but we had our weakest lineup for the year out there

russell busted his ass and played really well

congrats JR

He was shit. End of story.

Lucky to be in the side. How dare Ratts pick him.

Surely it was a fluke he's played OK what ? Twice in a row !

Trade him to Port at seasons end, end the saga NOW !!

Wait for another whipping boy to come along (watch out Bentley you're very very close)
and start on him next.

How dare ANYONE give the whipping boy praise. You should be ashamed of yourselves people....

Attention MODS: JR = Shit heaping only. Any praising please delete. Makes it so much more worthwhile....

Played well and showed good application to the task, interesting article in the Herald Sun today about Russell and the pressure of being a top ten pick and the expectation of fans and how is a whipping boy etc.
I'm not convinced as I dont rate Richmond but you can only beat who is on the park....if he play similar games vs the better teams then he has a future.
I want to see him in the best vs geelong, saints, dogs, pies, crows, dons etc cos thats who we need to beat to win a flag.

Fev kicked 9

Judd had 12 clearances and 29 possessions

Gibbs 24 possessions

Murph 20 possessions

Krooze played a solid game

Carrazzo 31 possessions

The only one was Simpson who had a bad day out being tagged.

while the numbers may look good

judd murph and gibbs were down from their ridiculously high standards

along with simpson

and the beloved stevens and scotland didnt play either

doenst matter anyway

to say JR being in our top 5 shows shit depth is illogical
