Thought some of Johnson's field kicking was fantastic after he made one howler of a clanger..... looks like I'm in the minority but I think he gives us something.

yes we beat 15th by 15 points in Perth - 2 weeks ago Geelong beat them by 22 points in Perth

I would take a win in Perth by 15 points -every day of the week after the last 5 years - perhaps Im easily pleased :smoking:

Dont understand negativity here tonight - I was as annoyed as any one last week - but they were under severe pressure and won - were as much as 36 points behind and won - got back in the 8

So true Frank. We gave away a token penalty "free" goal and had 10 more scoring shots - should have been at least a five goal win. We started like a team that was hammered the week before, but somehow found a way when it counted. Season defining.

Sorry Ham didnt necessarily mean you are being negative but Im ecstatic tonight and whilst we only won against 15 th team it was going to make a huge difference if we went 6 -8 instead of 7-7 and lets face it at 5.15 tonight it looked like we were going 6-8 - we have won a handful of games interstate in the last 7 years so we should celebrate every win -We Will play finals now and after 8 years why not celebrate - THE NEXT 8 Weeks are to look forward to - more than we have for years

We have a chance against any of the teams that will end up 5th -8TH IN THE FINALS

- Our side will be strengthened in the next 4 weeks - when walker warnock and bower come back - cant wait to get finals experience into kreuz murph bower grigg hammer gartlett JOSEPH Austin Gibbs

Only beat 15 th team but won so much more tonight

there is an old football saying

you start a football game, the same way you finished the week before.

we where rubbish last week, and rubbish in the first quarter.

after the first quarter, freo wasnt in the contest, if we converted the many chances we had, we would have, and possibly should have won by 6 or 7 goals.

hopefully the last quarter effort continues next week against Richmond.

Well done JR. Proud you are a true blue

Played well.

What you're suggesting is fair enough for the down the line "Russell is shit" crew. But the "Drop Russell" crowd have, I reckon been vindicated.

Reckon it reinforces the opinion that he should have been dropped weeks ago, rather than quash it. Played with greater hunger and confidence than he has before.

Damned fine point! This partisan stuff is just silly.

Agree with that point too.

There's something to work with with Johnson. If the coach is smart in using him and Chris can improve parts of his game he could be a real weapon. Another player who struggles a bit under pressure.

Must say..well done JR. He played with passion, and matched it with some decent skills today.
There were glimpses of team effort too...but still..we barely beat freo..and most of the league have had no trouble at all.
until we get some top flight players back,it will be scary.

Let's take the win. It was bad kicking that made it difficult in the end and poor discipline at the start. 10 more scoring shots so I think it's a better win than what it looks on paper. Geelong beat Freo by around the same margin a few weeks ago.

Was at the game today. I tell ya, the range of emotions you go through some games

Could not of been more disappointed with the start. Got down by pretty much six goals early in the 2nd and I thought 'here we go'...

To come away with the win was unbelievable. As someone said previously, good sides find a way to win and to guts it out interstate was fantastic. Especially with what was at stake. Any other year, it would've went the other way. I believe that's an important point.

Having seen any footage or replays but some quick thoughts:

- Our work rate, intensity etc was quite good after 1/4 time. We just need to finish better. It was evident in the third we were all over them however we couldn't put the score on the board. They of course would go forward and goal. We have to improve in this area and not waste our chances, especially when we work so damn hard.

- Kicks in still an issue. We don't seem to have any sort of system and it was clearly evident again today.

- The Blues support was fantastic today!! Well done one and all that were there. Walking out the ground (city end) and hearing the song sung loud and proud by the faithful brought a big smile to the face. We've seen some smashings here in recent years so we bloody well enjoyed it! A win's a win.

Overall, very happy with the win. Plenty to work on but still well and truly in the hunt...

We were slightly better than pathetic for the most part, but still won.

I recorded the game on IQ as I wanted to watch the end of the Saints V Geelong, but was so disgusted with the first half i fast forwared until I got to real time just before the start of the 3rd quarter.

Gibbs, Juddy, Murph, Carrots and Setanta were great. Russell showed a bit, but we did play like a side with no confidence early on (understandable, as Essendon* still played like they thought they were invincible early on Friday night).

On that showing, Richmond wont be easy, but should be a win by 3-4 goals.

Then Sydney, little to no chance of a win, unless there is drastic improvement.

Also this continues our stat since round 3 last year, we havent won or lost more than 2 in a row. I am really getting sick not being able to string more wins together.

I said before the game we had to kick the footy to win and that if we turned it into a running game we would lose. When we have had more handballs than kicks this year we have lost.
Up to half time we had more handballs than kicks and were behind.
After half time we had lots more kicks than handballs and won the half and the game.
For the game we had more kicks than handballs. It is how we won early games and we have to keep it up.

It's Rocket (Eade) Science.

Untidy win but a win, nonetheless. Room for a couple of changes. I think Fisher, Bentley, Garlett and Houla will come under scrutiny.
Usual problem with Fisher. Can't kick. I would prefer someone who has more to offer than just someone who can mark..
Bentley was OK in the last but made a lot of ordinary decisions. Jury's still out for mine.
Garlett didn't do much although he had limited time. He will be good but is a fringe player atm.
Houla is a shadow of his former self although his footpassing in the last was good. Can't understand why Ratts plays him down back.

I'm with you. I thought he was fantastic in the first few weeks that he did play. He's a good team player.

Great to get away from an interstate trip with a win...

Gun of a game by the 'Terrific Trio' in Gibbs, Judd and Murph...

Setanta's form was fantastic... he really should've kicked 5... Played his bes game for the club today. His marking and kicking for goal sems to have improved out of sight compared to previous seasons..

Fev didn't drop hos head dispite not having his kicking boots on again today... Something is seriously wrong with him this year though. His kicking is just a shaddow of what it was in previous years.. Can't believe some of the things that Tarrant was allowed to get away with though... No wondr poor Fev goes nuts at the umps sometimes...

Austin and Armfield's deision making needs to improve dramatically... Too many times both these blokes put their team mates under preasure with stupid handballs, or they make goofy errors that cost goals

Our defence is too ill disciplined.. 3 goals from 50 metre penalties in one quarter in inexcusable.

Ratts needs to call someone at the Melbourne Storm out to the club and get them to teach our boys how to tackle correctly... More often then not we give away frees for in the back, or our tackles dont seam to stick...

Greg Bentley needs to be sent back to the Bullants and never EVER wear a Carlton guernsey ever again

I liked the yellow jumpers better than the white ones

Very relieved with that win. Fremantle are one of those teams that match up well against Carlton. We don't have a great track record against them but the big guns came out firing after quarter time and once we started to stem the flow it always felt like a matter of when rather than if

Yeah I do too.

He's not perfect but I think we look better for having him.....I felt comfortable having him back and was satisfied with his performance....then I come in here and the majority of remarks are negetive...i didn't see it that way today.

Agree that Johnson has something worthwhile.

Actually thought the guernsey was fantastic - it was a strong yellow, contrasted well with the navy CFC. Much better than "Insipidity White". Maybe Livestrong will sponsor it as alternative strip :donk:

A great win, even though it looked ugly at the start.

One thing I noticed is when the players are'nt so Fevola conscience we actually play some decent footy.
It just seemed they backed themselves to have long range shots at goal instead of looking for Fev, and we ended up kicking 7 goals in that last quarter.

I hope they continue to play like the last quarter more often and if Fev kicks a bag, good on him, if he doesnt and
we still win games,,,,,,, so be it,,,,,,, BUT if he starts
gettin the shits cause players dont give him the ball.................................................................... :thanks:
