Well i'm slightly shocked that Hampson isn't being played !!!!!!!!!!! Am I missing something ??? Does this mean Jacobs and Kreuzer will be taking the ruck work, or will Cloke be run through there too ???

Browne missing out is surprising too. Thought it would be better to play Browne than say Thornton ........

The other two graring omissions are Edwards and Hartlett ............ Any news/idea's why the two big boys arn't even given a run in the NAB cup ??? I know Hartlett had an injury concern, but I thought he was over it ........ Pretty bad sign IMO .........

No worries there Coyne. THere are 4 or 5 more praccy games before the season starts. I am sure they will all get a go.

Players like Simmo, Thornton, Fev etc do not need to be played. I would've loved seeing Browne, Hammo, O'Keefe and Stanton... but I'm really happy to see Joseph, Jacobs, Garlett and Bentley... 4 rookies

Why are Banno and Butch not in favour?

It's still a good squad.

Only surprise is that Hampson is missing.

Bannister and Browne have been nursed and featured in the injured players group at training, similar to Hartlett.

Edwards is out of favour imo. From reports I thought he showed signs in the inta club hit out

I'd say 3 of the followoing will miss the 26 man team:

Joseph. Bentley, Anderson, Wiggins or Austin.

Happy with the squad. Ou midfield is very strong.

Hale at FF needs Setanta to match up because not even Waite has the reach to compete against Hale. This is where midfield pressure will go along way top curbing this obvious aadvantage North have.

Boomer will be in for a surprise when on the ball. Our kids will overtake him sooner rather than later.

Good luck to Jacobs; he's earned his place. Salivating..Yarran and Robinson to debut....mmmmm.

Bring it on!

Dunno. Just guessing. They're probably fine. I can't quite recall if someone said Bannister had a shocker or a blinder in the intra-club. I thought it was a shocker.

Excited to see young Joseph get a nod; hope he makes the final squad. With some small aboriginal forwards and flankers taking the side for North I'd like to see us experiment and have young defenders in. Will be a good testing ground.

has Hartlett been doing full training sessions or is he still in rehab?

Pretty similar to my 26 back on pg 2, so I can live with this squad.

No Hammer? Jacobs got his gig probably based on a better intra, but line ball. Plenty of time for Hammer. About time the MC got a look at Jacobs, so what better chance?

No Browne? More surprised, but Ando/Armfield must be the preferred options. Again, line ball.

Given other reports that Garlett will get a run, see Bentley, Joseph and Austin dropping out.

A few days out and I'm excited about Friday nights matchup, but can't help but think of the disaster that was Round 20 last year when North's running machine was far too good and outplayed us for the vast majority of the game. So what changes will we see to that? Based on what I've seen at training and from the intra-club - here's how I think it will pan out.

We'll drop back...I hate to call it flooding - but that's what it's going to look like. The idea being that we'll move the ball quickly on the counter attack so North won't be able to set up a zone. If North get their zone going our boys will run at North's zoning defenders and midfielders, share the ball by hand through the middle and deliver the ball into a reasonably open forward line.

We actually tried this a little last year - the problem was that you need a high degree of skill and decision making to make it work. Too often, a link in the chain lets the strategy down and it looks terrible when this happens - turnover, caught out of position, kick, mark, goal. That's where we'll miss the likes of Carrazzo and Scotland - and that's where the strategy could let us down. So what's Plan B?

Well - I don't reckon we'll see it. I usually mutter under my breath at the footy 'switch!' Easier said than done - after all, I'm on Level 2 and can see the whole field. Geelong do this better than anyone and opposition zones can't shift and reset when the 'Switch' is in play. It creates overlapping situations - loose men in the corridor and a direct path to a leading forward.

I must have muttered 'Switch' a good dozen times at the intra-club; but it didn't happen. Instead, Bower and Waite left their opponents and used the run and carry method to get out of their defensive 50. It might work on the odd occasion and look great - but these aren't the boys I want doing that out of the backline.

So where do we win it? At the stoppages. If we're quicker at moving the ball into uncrowded attacking areas - we'll go a long way to winning. But I think more important than the win is executing whatever gameplan Ratts and Co. have devised well and for sustained periods throughout the game.

Looking forward to seeing Johnson and Robbo in action - their second efforts and attack on the footy should make everyone happy they are playing in Navy Blue.
