There is a nice interview with Ratts in the Hun today with Mark Robinson.

I can't find the link but in the artcle he mentions that he is trying to make contact with an AFL coach who started his career at a young age, but wouldn't mention his name.

It was good to read that he doesn't think he has all the answers because even though all the armchair coaches on this site, think they know everything and can't be told otherwise, Ratts isn't afraid to say he doesn't know everything.

That's a great read but gee I think to myself - does Rattan need to ask so many questions in his answers? I don't know the answer to that

Where does this come from?

Has he been watching K Rudd ask himself questions?

Or is it just something that comes naturally?

How about this little grab:

Quote:
Did you make an error in the last couple of minutes of the third quarter against Essendon*, when they kicked goals? Did you not close the game down, or did the players not follow your instruction?

They kicked the last three and kicked two in two minutes.

Or this one:

Quote:
Who's your back six for the future?

We saw on the weekend that Michael Jamison is going to be a real player.

We can go on along as long as we like that Ratten has not had enough time but he is directly responsible for the following

1. Our players are clearly not fit enough.

1a Our players can not hold or break a tackle.

2. Waite at Center Half Back is baffling for a team that has no Center Half Forward and very few athletic runners

3. Not Selecting O'hailpin is mind boggling. Clearly our only big bodied Gorilla with genuine athleticism. He is our Center Half Back play him there

4. Not appreciating that the game is not an in an under hard ball get contest. Coaching has to revolve around accurate disposal and athletic running. Ratten appears to continue Pagan's old school philosophies. He is
being protected by the fact that he has a better playing list

WRONG!

Top class coaching performance
We actually looked like a football team today and not 22 disparate individuals

It takes time for things to come together, especially since we are coming from a long way back. A stupid statement to make so early in the season.

Sometimes you can come out, make a big statement and be vindicated. Sometimes you can be made a fool.

The second bit relates to Melvey.

I was wrong on some of my points. What was so pleasing was that was the first time I felt like I watched a side that responded to the coaching box is years ---- Sorry not convinced by Waite and Center Half Back and Setanta has to play every week

I relation to critisizm of Brett Ratten, I do recommend that people think very carefully before they talk or post comments.

If you are not convinced about Waite at CHB, then who else in the team could have done what he did (so often) today?

A winning team needs a CHB and preferably one that wins the day in this position.

For your view to have some substance, you need to name names.

If not Waite who else do you ahve in mind for CHB?

Good call. Waite for CHB for me every day. A teams run starts from the defence and a good defence is vital. Jamo Fullback & Waite CHB. Leave it and watch it grow....

Watch the game if you are satisfied with a 25 year old who gives away 3 goals a week in the backline, then he is your CHB. I am not satisfied with that type of performance. He makes howlers every week.
