I only eat organic. In fact I only eat what I grow in my backyard. :?

I never said that it has to be completely organic. We have a couple of retreads in the side right now. This is a judd topic right? So I am talking specifically about Judd and the fact that he is a premiership captain of another club. I wouldn't want to give up early picks or young guns like Kennedy to get him. I wouldn't enjoy a premiership as much off the back of retread premiership captain of another club. Invest the money into Carlton resources and Carlton players. That is the best way for sustained success. Putting all our eggs in one basket is a flawed approach.

At the end of the day, I guess it all depends upon what is on offer for Judd. If it is relatively cheap (picks, players and $$) then fine. Otherwise, hold firm and do it organically.

So 1995 must have been a huge letdown for you.

Hardly celebrated at all?

Bold statement. C'mon, the best modern day player. One full year away from another Brownlow. Stunner WAG member. Effective clearences. A reason to make the Filth and Scum genuinely jealous.

If this isn't 5 million dollors well spent, nothing is.

The brilliatnt thing about it all is that the injury of the last few weeks might actually cloud the judgement of the fans and the WC admin wrt Judds worth.

Carlton may actually get a bargain in the end.

The amount of crap that is being sprouted about the negative consequences of a groin injury is quite hysterical across the footy boards.

Well there has been a lot of vision of Judd unable to perform near his best over the last few months, effectively bringing him back to the field as a player. Combine that with a number of significant young guys having recurring problems with OP over the last few seasons, and Judd's power style of game.

There are strong reasons to be concerned re his physical condition, given the high price he is likely to cost in terms of money and list management.

These are all reasonable concerns, and should not be brushed away just because Judd has been the AFL pinup boy for 5 years and this Club's wealthy backers have come forward again from their self-imposed exile.

Perhaps I am a nervous nellie, but I remember clearly my dismay when one former President trumpeted the biggest 5 year deal in AFL history, just over 7 years ago.

It is not a foregone conclusion that Judd would be the saviour, but some people seem to think it is. It is a risk, and needs to be considered as such.

Im not hysterical about Judds injury.
Im just using logic
I hope Judd retrns and is himself... BUT for WC.
I want our own players developed by ur own club.
Its 2007... and its alsmost 2008 and thats how i see footy now.

Come on Jars, you're the stats man. You can do better than that! How many premiership captains from other teams did we have running around for Carlton in 1995? Diesel is a Carlton player, Spalding a carlton player, Rice, Hogg and Clape... all Carlton players. Judd is, and will always be known as, a WCE player-captain-premiership hero. The only thing that would change that is if he won 2 more premierships with the Blues and captained the club. I don't see that happening. For Sybad and I to agree on something says alot to me! Football is different from 1995 where you could pilidge other clubs for the players and put a premiership team together. The new age is the draft, recruitment and development. If Judd comes cheap, I'm all for it. Otherwise if its not cheap, its not going to be the winning move that we need. Youth and developing our own will be.

I would prefer our kids

or Judd via a really really good trade - say Ackland for the Juddster
and I want to win Tattslotto (but must remember to buy a ticket)
but at the end of the day if he pulls on a navy blue jumper I'll scream my friggin lungs out and watch my son and a million other kids who dream the old dream (not the new economic/organic/ergonomic/Bartlett-riddled ballet of today) leap with joy that first game Judd runs out onto the grass with the bluebaggers.

And if we win a flag with him I think I may just lose my voice for a few weeks and probably not for a moment consider what might have been if only we had not traded for him

and if it all goes sour I'll scream with the berst of them what a @#$%&! ridiculous decision it really was.

Hindsight is the last great bastion of football!

But somehow the AFL will take that away from us too!

The bastards!

Woosha won't stand in Judd's way if he chooses to come home

I've joked about it, and had reservations about it myself, but I think we all need to calm down a bit regarding Judd's injury concerns and the merits of growing our own vs finding stars from elsewhere. This is not being handled by the same regime that oversaw the Mansfield/O'Reilly/Devenport/Mcguane deals. This is being handled by some of the best and most professional football administrators in the business, people who understand the risks, possible consequences and possible benefits. I'm sure that everything that has been talked about in this thread is at the forefront of Swann/Icke/Ratts' minds, and I am confident that they wouldn't take this decision lightly at all, and will only go ahead based on the best of medical advice and if they are absolutely convinced that Judd would be everything they say he is. Let's just trust that they are the people best qualified of anyone to make a tough decision like this and respect whatever call they make.

As for whether I would want him at my club, absolutely I would. I have to agree with Pagan when he said that a fit Judd would give us one of the elite midfields in the competition. But I'm not sure, and in no position to really speculate, whether he would be worth the price we would have to pay (which would more than likely see at least two promising kids head west). I'll happily leave that call to the aforementioned.

Thats the key point. Judd is running the show here. He chooses who he wants to be traded to, not West Coast.

I think it is the same sort of situation as Stevens in 2003. He simply wants to come back home and will be content with any of the prospective Melbourne suitors.

Synners hes played 130 games- Stevens had played that amount when he came ot Carlton and was even older then Juddy at the time.
Yes we didnt give up much for him, but we still put him on a relatively lucrative contract (which is the concern of a lot of people in this thread)

Ive heard that if Judd comes to Melb (looking more likley by the day) he is coming to Carlton.

I reckon getting Judd is the best way to develop our own.
