there was a moment in the game against St Kilda when T-Bird had the ball near goal, Gibbs called for it, T-Bird looked, saw and chose otherwise...the ball went nowhere... Had it been Kouta, Lance, Fev or Skinny I have no doubnt T-Bird would have handballed.

JK JR and others suffer from this habit. I blame the coach for this because a coach must form a team. That's his first job in my book and a team must be equal.

We aren't.

When we are, look out for JK.

Frustrating isn't it Danny! We are still a team of individuals and play accordingly.

That’s been happening for a long time and is very obvious.
Similar to the way the western bulldogs use to wax the ball between west, Johnson, and smith when they were finishing last.

This is a common issue at every club. No matter what the players are told to do by coaches, the players have a discretion over which option they choose. You can't come up with clear rules which you can then use to discipline players who breach them.

Every club has the same issue. There is an informal ranking by players of the value of their teammates. If a player is regarded as a turnover merchant, or one who panics under pressure, or one who drops marks, or one who can't kick at goal, or one who derails rebounding attacks by choosing the wrong option, then they aren't used.

Setanta faced the same scepticism from his teammates last year but is now trusted.

JK would be seen as weak at holding his marks and lacking in kicking penetration. He would be regarded as a bit of a dead end by players who don't want to see it go back over their heads. He'll have to turn that around before he will draw the ball.

Gibbs hasn't yet earned his teammates' respect, but should do so before too long. Showing a bit more commitment with his body might help him do that.

Hard to mark the footy when they dont kick it to you and when they do its around your bootlaces.....our delivery doesnt help him.
Josh isnt a dumb player, I dont think he does turn the ball over, he isnt a player who makes silly spur of the moment decisions and he usually errs on the side of caution when disposing of the ball.

He hasnt learned to use his big frame either.....early on he used to crash packs and impose himself...now he doesnt...has lost his intenstity which was one of his weapons.
I'd like to see him coached to be more physical....get meaner, knock some players over....get other players looking over their shoulder.
I dont want him playing like Buddy Franklin because that wont make him any use to us...Buddy's an athlete, ...Josh is an old school footballer and has to be taught to play like one..

Right again Elwood.

JK is badly coached. He leads way too early and in the wrong spots.

He is in desperate need of a mentor...probably the best leading/marking CHF of all time was Sticks.

I hope that Sticks is trying to teach JK some timing.

As for the delivery to the forward line. Our midfielders bomb the ball inside 50 way too much.

They must learn to carry the ball more often AKA Bradley or Diesel.

In the 90's...our midfield kicked goals every week. It forces the opposition defenders to be more accountable for forward pockets and HFFlankers.

This is also why Fisher is such an important player...he leads hard and draws defenders away from Fev.

Our other problem is Betts. Eddie needs to play smarter. He acts as a crumbing forward...but he gets in Fevs way all the time. EB has to play further up the ground and run onto crumbs from the 50m arc...not stand directly next to Fev.

You watch the game on the weekend...EB will be right in the pocket...Collingwood will play a tall defender on him...and when the ball is bombed in by our midfield..EB's player will run off him and help spoil Fev.

If EB played up the ground he would become another option for the opposition defence to cover.

Surely the forwards' coach - Ratts - has some ability to coach JK?

As for Eddie, you can't be serious. He sprints to present front and square to Fev. He runs in from outside 50 or across from the hot spot. He regularly hits a spot a few metres ahead of Fev at pace. That's exactly how he's supposed to do it. And he has gathered a number of possessions this way.

If you look at him, he also runs towards goal at boundary throw ins and bounces inside 50 looking for the tap.

You seem to think he shouldn't be front and square. You think he should be running in but well in front of the contest involving Fev. That's not the way a crumbing forward should be used.

The other 2 aspects of his play are that he regularly runs well into the midfield to help out, sometimes as deep as halfback, and he also does the work of 2 men when pressuring rebounding defenders trying to work the ball out of our F50. It's just not right to suggest that he sits in a forward pocket.

Again it is timing.

EB and JK both clog up the 50m arc.

When you watch Fisher lead...he literally runs away from Fev.

when you watch EB crumb...he starts his movement e few seconds too early.

I am a huge 175cm myself... and all the good coaches I had told me to hold my leads/crumbing back. Otherwise you create an obstacle for the KPP.

When you add JK leading terribly...you have a bloody mess.

In essence we are flooding our own forward line.

I am not saying that EB means to do it...he attempts to do exactly what you are saying...but quite often he doesnt...he just gets in the way.

Ratts has been doing somethings well and others poorly.

We are kicking more goals and getting inside 50 a lot more this year, but we also burn a lot of entries by pumping it long and hoping Fev will take the contested mark.

What I want to see is the Mids hold the ball another second and deliver to a three pronged attack.

Fev leading up the ground.

Fish leading away from Fev.

JK/Whitnall dropping into CHF.

Then EB and Lappin hovering around CHF to zone the forward line and lock it in.

Most of the teams we have played this year have rebounded from defence way too easily. That is because EB, Lappin and JK are too far up the ground.

anyway thats what I am seeing.

We'll agree to disagree than Bluebeard. I've taken a particular interest in how Eddie goes about it, and I reckon he times his runs well. He certainly doesn't obstruct Fev on the lead, and I haven't seen his opponent go up against Fev. And if that happens in future, that will make Eddie more effective. We've seen in the past how the opposition has capitalised on our errors when we've had too many try to spoil while their opponents are free to crumb.

And when Fisher does lead into Fevs space he gets crunched and injured.....

We talk about kicking it to the best option but when a player like Smurph elects to not pass to Fev and instead accidently misses the kick for goal or passes to another player - he gets told off by Fev as happened on Friday night, which I am sure does wonders for Smurphs confidence.

Damned if you, damned if you don't

Hmmmm, but Murph knows that one day he'll be Fevola's captain 8)

It really is a shame Fev can't pull his head out of his arse sometimes. He could be remembered as a true great of the game. I worry he'll fade out and only be considered as a Mark Jacko type clown with just some ability.

Fair enough.

I hope EB kicks 4 crumbing goals this week.

fev a lazy 6 in an open 50m arc

JK 2 from contested marks

3 from Fish (he seems to kick 3 quite often)

3 from Lance (please!!!!!!!!)

and a couple from Skinny.

Oh!....and 5 collectively from the midfield streaming into the 50m.

Then we will all be happy after a comfortable 30 point win.
