Brown was being the humble diplomat......like I said him and Charman have had no preseason. Even if I buy the WC tired theory why wouldnt the MC make more than one change ie Jackson.
If fresh legs were an issue wouldnt the coach and MC include some more runners ie Blackwell, Bower, Edwards for example as well as Jackson.???
Lets make Eddie coach if that was the main reason we lost?.....
re: Whitnall..comparing him to Brown.....why not?..both get paid large sums of money to perfom, both play CHF, both are captains.....plenty to compare IMHO.....only difference is that Lance doesnt have an entire backline playing on him like Brown does and has Fev to take all the best backman.....
re: Houlihan and Judd.....lets be sensible..... Houlihan doesnt get paid like Judd, isnt captain, doesnt have 4 blokes every week rotating off him and isnt expected to win Brownlows......
Fevola takes all the best backmen because he is our "best" forward and because our game plan over the past 5 and a bit years has been to play OVER CHF rather than THROUGH CHF on the way to goal. Easy for oppositon to zone off and play 3 on 1 when they know that their direct opponents are not going to be used. Fair dinkum, this one-dimensional entry into the forward line and trying to hit-up Fevola on almost ever occasion has been so readable by everyone in and out of the game that it is as tiresome and boring as some of the so-called knowledgeable posters n this site.
funnily enough, I did not see a whole backline playing in Brown on the weekend either. I saw him too quick and cover too much distance on the move than a young player learning the game who was his opponent. Carlos more than matched Brown in the contests on "most" occasions but was beaten simply because Brown didn't stop presenting and THAT is what our CHF's have to be able to do consistently. And our game plan has to be to use these blokes when they do present, not just to go over them to the 1-3 Fevola contests.
Houlihan is not like Judd because he doesn't have the silky skills that so many Carlton supporters cream over, and because his decision making lacks polish at important times in the game. Let's be fair, Foolihan has been like this since he first pulled on a Carlton guernsey and he coughs the ball up more than he should.
