This is a message from the Carlton Communications department regarding the new website:

Quote:
Have just finished tideying up some of the backend of the new site.

To be honest with you, the new site still probably needs a month or so's work before it should have gone live, but as you know we don't live in an ideal world.

In the end we just had to go live. But we think we have got it to a point that we can develop it into a site that our fans can assist in shaping.

We know there will be plenty of feedback, and negative feedback at that, but we want to hear it all as it will help us get the best site possible for the club in the future.

So our message is to be patient, and we encourage any feedback as we will act on it.

Thanks again for your support and would love to hear your thoughts.

So there you go. If at all possible could you please provide constructive criticism and feedback, bearing in mind the constraints of the Telstra contract.

As you can see the club will listen to your opinion as it is hoping for the site to be 'shaped' by the fans.

After a quick check of the website I cannot see where there is a "Contact Us" or similar link. Any suggestions?

And there lies the rub.....How much does the "constraints of the Telstra contract" determine the format of the site, not just the content?

I have to admit I don't like the player profiles section.

Before there was:-

1) a large picture of each player - now it is barely visable

2) more detailed information of their history - eg Fevola was the Coleman Medalist, Michael Tuck Medalist etc... - now there is no detailed information of achievements.

I would have thought you were smart enough to work out what can and cannot be changed.

Whether I can determine it from my own intelligent deductions isn't really the point. Having it down in writing is a different matter.

Well none of us have access to the details of the contract so I don't really see the point you are trying to make.

Any constructive suggestions for the site?

Yes.

More Navy Blue.

Less flash

Make it differentiated from the AFL site.

Less clutter.

Less Telstra-fied. Which, given that our major sponsor is Optus, would make them happy too.

I think you know the point I'm trying to make. I didn't think I was being that cryptic.

It's like you're taking things in this subject very personally, Jars. You really shouldn't. I'm trying to help, too.

I just think a lot of the criticism of the official site over the last few years is over the top. Would much prefer more reasoned critiques. There is some good stuff in this thread already which is good.

Fair point. I'll try and keep that in mind.

That said, though, a lot of it comes from frustration. And not just my frustration.

Thanks JArs,
The photo gallerry link goes nowhere (after it lists all the galleries?!)

CAn we link it to the albums here and the Sexy squads work

I'm guessing ther may be an issue with the Telstra contract right there

How do you find a rookies profile on the new CFC website?

It was easy before the update/ change/ degrade.

Test links...

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/Default.asp ... wsId=39022

http://carltonfc.com.au/Season2007/News ... wsId=39021

Hmm, how come sometimes links to the site tend to just divert to www.carltonfc.com.au ???

Example ... http://carltonfc.com.au/Season2007/News ... wsId=39043

EDIT: Hmm, seems like you can't read AFL articles via the Carlton website anymore!

Jars,
I wrote but no reply after over a week. It appears that the time clock maybe the problem as that seems to prevent the radio stream from operating. Hopefully the fellow TC'ers can help out like they have done the last two weeks with supplying the streaming link once the game has started.

yeah.... the links aren't great at the moment.
The "Sign Up and Stand With Us" should link to the membership page instead of the homepage.

Hey Jars (excuse the familiarity, we've never met). I have a $500 Membership. Do I have to pay more to watch game video and highlights on the site? Thanks.
