Barry Mitchell was pretty handy for the Swans against the Blues.

I remember Nick Stevens picking up about 36 touches against us at Optus in 2002 or 2003. I walked away and said to my girlfriend I'd give anything to have a player like that at the blues, he hasn't quite turned around our fortunes but we were lucky the way it all turned out

I can't believe we went for Chatfield when Stevens was still available. I was turning some of my old tapes into DVDs since Christmas and I watched through the 1997 draft. I can sort of understand Massie: we wanted James Walker and were pretty sure we'd get him until Freo pulled him up. But Chatfield? I didn't see a lot of U18 footy that year, but Stevens did enough for me to think he was OK.

Stevens played on Kouta and really thrashed him: Kouta didn't show him enough respect and paid for it. The whole team didn't respect Port enough and we got killed as a result.

God this guy could mark! Pity he couldn't kick. He kicked 1 goal 8 behinds and 3 on the fulls from 14 shots against Footscray one day. He had leather poisoning, but he only goal was a left foot soccer kick under pressure. We kicked 4 goals 20 odd and still almost won.

Try Tim Powell. His only game for Richmond against us was a disaster for us and probably the best single game of Powell's career. Then he was a waste of space who ran the wrong way when playing for us. I can still remember him losing us 50 m in possession one day at the MCG, firstly running backwards, then kicking across the ground from the back flank to the opposite back pocket.

Denis Collins used to play well against us when he was at Footscray. His most famous bit of footage is tapping Robbie Muir on the head at Moorabbin one day and copping a haymaker.

Renato Serafini was a talented Full Forward at Fitzroy....81 games and 117 goals; but only managed 7 games and 6 goals for us.

His brother Laurie was an even better player who played 146 games for Fitzroy, before becoming a Brisbane Bears Director following the merge.

Sounds like Earl had a big one against us the year before we recruited him!

Renato left it too late to come to us: he had injuries and other issues by then and really struggled. Pity. Had we got him a few years earlier I think we could have extended his career: we appeared to have more idea how to keep guys on the field than most other clubs back then. We certainly had more idea how to get the best out of "diamonds in the rough".

What were the reasons behind recruiting Gallagher and Eccles?

Funnily enough my club, Mitcham, has recruited Andrew's brother for season 2007.

Both are extremely good players in the EFL.

Frank Marchesani played a blinder in the last quarter of Round 22 1980.

I reckon he kicked 4 goals from wing/half forward in last term as Fitzroy came from 51 points behind to lose by 4!

Next year, he's a Carlton player. Go figure!!!

Frank is the classic example of a great talent and a wasted opportunity.....he was even given the immortal No.25 guernsey !

Played 1 year at Fitzroy....1980....16 games and 17 goals.

Carlton....1981-83 and 1985....36 games....26 goals.

There was lots of kerfuffle when he supposedly went to Carlton for HUGE money.....worse....in exchange for Peter Francis who had played so well for us in big games.

Constantly injured throughout his career.....he even gave Essendon* a go after retiring in 1985; but got injured again and didn't even play one game for them.

Marchesani's best game for us was in the 1982 GF. He and Clarke ran on with the other 20 with the intention of "tricking" Richmond, so they wouldn't know who was in the team (you could do that then).

They then ran off before the first siren.

Other than that he was pretty disapponting (after kicking 4 on Doully from the HFF).
