I suppose it's lucky we have the best S&C bloke the game has ever seen.
It's ridiculous

Aren't soft tissue injuries better than hard bone injuries? :smoking:

Gov must not be offered a new deal.

Enough is enough FFS.

martin, cunningham, mcgovern, marchbank ...

we just cant rely on them getting 15+ games a year, let alone 20+ games a year ... money on martin and mcgovern has been ill spent ... and williams isnt far behind ...

they just keep breaking down ... either we are doing something wrong and the medical staff have something to consider, or their bodies continue to let them down (no shame in that) ..

either way, we have carried all of them for a while and cant continue.

and i actually rate them at their best when they are fit (they are just not ever fit)

Something I thought I'd never again see as a Carlton fan: a shortage of half back flankers. Aside from that, it's not really that bad. Saints are missing a ton. No excuses.

Walsh or LOB might need to spend more time behind the ball. We have to get more run from the back half. That's where it all starts under Voss' steady on game plan. Our defenders get high possessions. Someone needs to get their hands on it down back. Dare I say it McGovern's selection is critical.

This is exactly the role Cerra is playing, and I'm fairly sure I've seen you criticise Voss for it on the basis that Cerra is our "second best inside mid".

Now you want to take our best running midfielder in Walsh, or our stop-gap running winger in LoB (who can't tackle) and stick them behind the ball?

Play either of them behind the ball and we may as well put up the white flag before the bounce.

Hearing Acres just ran laps today. I wonder if he'll be this week's surprise injury

Geez, I hope not.
But could go some way to explain the extended bench for defenders and LOB.

What rubbish.
Cerra is playing onball. He is probably our only consistent onballer right now.
In suggesting a Walsh or a LOB spend a fair amount of time down back, I am acknowledging we are a bit desperate for run and rebound down back and something might need to give.
Fist Williams then Doc and now Saad.
St.K are not a quick side so in some respects it is probably timely our sluggish and under performing midfield comes up against them now. Voss needs to throw down the challenge to Cripps, Hewett, Ed Curnow and Kennedy. To win the contest.
But he also needs to find some way to generate run from defense. I like Cincotta, have watched him for 2 years in the VFL, but it is a big ask for him to come in and be a large part of the solution.
Our stuttering midfield less Walsh has got us to 4th on the ladder. So maybe ask Walsh to start on a wing but play with an eye on the backhalf so he can be the guy playing Saad's role. Or LOB. Someone has to generate that run.
And what do you mean by stop-gap? Sounds like a throw away term from someone who doesn't know what they are talking about.
LOB and Walsh are two of our best runners, someone has to help the backs this weekend and maybe next weekend also if Saad is out again. Saad is a major avenue out of defense for us. His absense will be acutely felt if we don't find other ways to run and carry from defense. Again I like Cincotta but gee it is his first game.

Well there are injuries and then there are injuries to certain parts of the ground.
We need to ensure we can move the ball from the back half esp given Voss' game plan is built around playing zone and basically allowing the opposition F50 entries and then intercepting (Weiters, McG, Young) and then steadily (and slowly) bringing the ball back out of defense. Our defenders get huge stats as a result of this game plan.

So are injuries now an issue to our game plan?

Early prognosis
The Blues will be without Saad for the next fortnight, but McGovern and Pittonet are trending towards playing this week. Boyd should return via the VFL, but Cuningham and Martin have suffered setbacks to respective calf issues. – Riley Beveridge
