He got a fair push in the back when he approached the pack that threw him off his stride. He would easily get off that one.

I agree. Couldn't believe how the Foxtel team went on about it. You do wonder sometimes whether they actually watch the replay. Or do they simply assume their first impression must be right? It was a strange sort of contrast with the high contact made to Murphy a few minutes later. 'Nothing in it. No, nothing in it.'

Pleased to see Bootsma get a run.
Overall far better preseason than last year. Shown enough to be pretty confident of what we'll produce.

MM mentioned he knew we were top heavy and that the small fellas failed. As you say we were still 'trying' things.

I have no doubt our intensity will be fine round 1, with a better balanced team.

Saw a bloke with a Brissy jumper on in the supermarket today - a rarity here in Perth.

Clearly celebrating the Lions' great achievement.

To be honest, I wasn't sure whether to envy him or pity him.

Kind of sums up the ambivalence of the NAB Cup.

For what it's worth and now that my head is clear from a big day on Friday......

There is no doubt in my mind that Mick was still looking at structures and players Friday night. There is also no doubt that he would have learnt a lot about our list over the past 3 weeks. I'm not too worried about the result.

I am seriously concerned about the mental application of some players and again it was for all to see on Friday. We don't like being hunted - we love being the hunter. We can play well when we are focused and turned on but left to our own devices with no clear direction, we struggle to get our heads right. This was a pre-season GF and live on FTA. Players should not require any additional motivation to play well and play to structures, etc. They failed AGAIN!

Our players cannot play football every week without a challenge before them. This is a very worrying sign because professional footballers should be able to motivate themselves week in week out without coaching challenges.

The funny thing about this season is that I am looking forward to the end of it. The reason I say that is I am looking forward to the changes Mick will make having had a look at the list...I think he was reluctant to make changes at the very beginning for fear of pushing players away and wanting to see what he can get out of them.

Heads will roll at seasons end and I think we will have some good kids come through in the next couple of drafts....This is where Wiley will be an even bigger asset having coached the WA u16 squad ; )

Reluctant to make changes as those in the firing line had a contract and delisting them would put us over the TPP for the year. Effort in itself to get Collins from senior list to rookie.

Don't know whether its by design or not,but it's on the money....

Anyway obviously didnt see the game but some supporters on here have no idea

We simply arnt good enough
Too many guys cant kick the ball
reading the posts we turned the ball over too easily
where have I heard that before
Too many flash in the pan footballers who dont do the team things
I just hope MM drops these blokes and doesnt treat them like kids gloves like our previous coach

And for what its worth Murphy too me is not a great choice as captain

I really would like to have seen Duigan or even Henderson as captain

Still drunk from last night Keogh? Seriously...that's serious trolling, or you've got a screw loose.

I'm extremely happy...I had money on the Lions (and Daniel Rich) ....and there's a simple reason for it. They had set themselves up for this with their training program. We hadn't (despite what the coach tells the media). They'll start the year like a house on fire and tire as the season wears on. Our focus is Round 1. There's still some team rules to get right, but let's not get on our high horse about a game you didn't see. The second quarter was what you'll see more of come Round 1. We'll taper down now ready for the Tigers. I'd encourage you to watch the 2nd qtr when it's posted on here and just watch Gibbs. Outstanding.

BTW - Murphy is a solid choice as captain. As would Simpson and Carrazzo have been. Henderson isn't in the leadership group and doesn't have any desire to be, so why would you make a bloke who harbors no desire to be a leader the Captain of your football club???

Haven't been one for a few years now Keogh...

...so why is everything Carlton does/doesn't do bad according to you? You identified in your post that you hadn't seen the game yet still went on a rant how the players weren't good enough and Murphy shouldn't be Captain!

It's probably time to acknowledge - at least for your own personal well-being - that a lot of things are actually going well at the club. On-field, the 'loss' could actually be a blessing in disguise. The playing group will be under no illusion about what is required come Round 1.

I didn't like what I saw Friday night, but at the end of the day it's NAB Cup / practice match. If the game wasn't called Nab cup Grand Final and was just a practice match, and instead we lost to Brisbane by 40 points in front of 500 people at Coolangatta Oval, it would barely rate a mention.

If the second quarter was representative of what we are going to deliver this year, then it will be fun times.

I'm tipping no one at Stkilda is overly fussed about losing to GWS at the weekend.

weren't we 7 and 1 after 8 last year - & look how that ended up FFS!!

0 and 5 might be just what the doc ordered (just not Dank FFS)

I'm sorry but I don't follow your attempt at logic.

About as fussed as John Longmire is losing to Port Adelaide.
