I'm sure the club isn't trying hard enough.
I know ex members who have yet to receive a call from the membership dept convincing them or giving them good reason to join again.
Quite pathetic really. Its just a campaign...on the phones...get a few of the players together....give it a burl.
If they dont achieve 50K I am going to brand them losers from then on.
I'm not going to forgive them thereafter till we get to 60K.
Its just a number. We're going good. Smashed our previous best.
Pokies are gonna pump us up anyways.
I don't see why you're so bitter.
Come on dane, you read news and announcements from our President and CEO???
Don't you???? You listen to radio??? If you do and you live in Melbourne I know you know where I'm coming from?
Its not just a number dane.
The club has a target.
The target is 50K.
The target is important to reach in our quest for more games at the MCG.
MCG may become our home ground but we need 50K.
Many have said (yep right here on TC which you read) that if our membership figures hit 50K we have MCG as our home ground.
Take a breath....
We have not smashed anything.
We've scraped past our previous record at snails pace.
There are a lot of clubs with far greater numbers than us....including Ninethmond when they didnt even make the finals and disappointed fans since 1982 (theri last GF appearance lost to us)
We have one of the biggest supporter bases in the country yet more than half the comp are ahead of us in terms of meberships..that's embarassing.
You do realise the weight huge membership numbers hold for potential sponsors?
You know we're still in debt? You know sponsors can help eradicate the debt?
You know pokies are no guarantee because rules regarding pokie revenue may change.
You know its better to generate revenue from sponsors and memberships than from robbing old people from one armed bandits.
You know that many Carlton members and supporters despise the idea that we need pokies to get us out of debt. Therfeore we should improve in other areas: sponsorships!!
You know all the above? You should.
You know what the club is doing above and beyond the norm to reach the 50K figure?
Well they are not calling ex members whose memberships have lapsed.
That's not being bitter, that's callin a spade a spade: its dumb.
Its been said in the thread before. Remember?
Its just a little effort which goes a long way.
We shouldn't leave it to the last minute only to fail as we have previously: record or not.
It is important, and its disappointing if we dont reach the target when smart people in a membership dept could make it happen.
We should be aiming to smash the 50K.
Now you jusy keep on doing the good job re the numbers.
I think you do it with enthusiasm because we are getting closer to the 50K mark.
After all the record has been achieved.
You do know its important that we reach 50K.
Refer to the thread reorting a meeting the Doc attended with membership dept people...even Doc changed his tune after that and spelt out the importance of the 50K.
Not bitter at all....just disappointed we are not doing more to get over the target.
That number you refer to is usually measured at the end of June 30th. Our annual membership number which gives us our ranking....that's only a week away.
I want my club to rank highly in the popularity and membership stakes.
We will be more respected by the AFL if we do.
Why I worry about the number? Because it matters.
Why do you?
