What do we want, two draft picks and two rookie elevations? Let alone any free agents. Get real - what kind of list management/development is that?

Well 4 are already off the senior list which gives us 6 spots.
I'd elevate 3 (Casboult, Tuohy, Bell), so we should cut 1 more for 4 ND picks. If we get a free agent, maybe cut 2 more.

Why elevate Bell? Odds are we will have McInnes as a LTI anyway. Wastes a spot.

Do we have a veteran or two that takes the place of a rookie instead of a senior listed player? That would make things easier.

I think the Herald Sun should trade Andrew Bolt for someone with a conscience.

Or you could discuss it sensibly...

If Cloke does turn up, I'd say it's probable he's the one out the door. Could it be another Jacobs trade? Or would it just be the smartest possible trade out of all our talls.

Half the reason I don't want to trade Hampson is that after 2 season ending knee injuries in 2 seasons, his trade value is minimal. Warnock much the same.

Is it feasible that a club grossly overreacts to Casboult's half a dozen games of potential and offers overs for him? At this rate, I reckon it's more likely than a club offering us overs for Hampson or Warnock.

I like your logic Rhino. Question should be asked of everyone on the list.

Not really sure what we'd get though. He showed some potential, contested marking, but also showed his weaknesses as well.

Richmond seem to like a lot of our players and might want someone to backup Vickery and Maric. Would you even get a 3rd round pick for him though?

Jenkins went for next to nothing, Sierakowski to North for about pick 50 last year also. Could be tough. Is there that many decent talls projected to go deep in the draft?

Best case scenario is probably If Collingwood lose next week and Cox dominates in the ruck. Even if Cloke stays, could they panic and offer us overs for one of the above. You could almost see Ed contemplating it for the PR opportunities of Megan Gale ditching her Carlton jumper for a Collingwood one. In the face of Malthouse and possibly Cloke defecting, no less...

Just swap Carlton up to Sydney and Sydney down to Carlton.

Absolutely nothing to be gained by trading Casboult. He's a rookie that if upgraded, would still be on a low $ contract. Don't save anything by trading him. Give him time to develop, and besides, he's the perfect 2nd ruck/3rd tall forward, if his form warrants it.

Agreed in theory, till you realise that you'd probably get the same trade value for Warnock or Hampson at the moment.

Casboult offers two things nobody else on our list does. He's a pack-busting, contested-mark eating monster forward. And he's a forward who can compete as a 20% ruckman.

Do you think MM would let that go?

We have a surplus of average ruckmen.

Hopefully we can get something decent for Warnock, or if not, something good for Hampson.

It's a matter of list balance.

Re Goddard, if he can play as a gun midfielder I'd love to have him. Haven't seen enough of that.

Think I read somewhere that Waite and Simmo are eligible for vets list next year

At the moment we are bringing these players into Carlton for 2013.

Cloke, Goddard, Caddy, Lynch, Cook, Chaplin

The outs so far are Thornton, Russell, Bower, Mclean, Kerr + rookies

Waite and Simmo will be veterans in 2013, but in terms of lists spots this is irrelevant because all lists (including vets) will be 40 next year.

Levi stays.
If MM can turn a spud like Leigh Brown into a contributor in a premiership team
than the potential influence of MM on a maturing Levi is completely unlimited.

I tend to agree with this. No doubt Casboult has potential, and someone like Malthouse is as good a bet as any to turn that potential into performance.

He's out of contract; we have no right to retention of the player. The only question is how long until his contract expires (before or after FA).

Therefore the average AFL club would offer us... almost nothing.

You're absolutely spot on about Casboult. Mick loves those types. Also loves playing one ruck with a forward as a pinch-hitter. No chance he'll go anyway but the Carlton forward line.

In regards to Warnock given we gave him a 3 year contract I doubt we have any intention of trading him. If we did to shore up our trade position we'd have contracted him for less than that. If we trade him we may be paying part of his contract for 3 years too.

I reckon under Mick we may have one ruckman too many but if they don't want to go, remembering it's the contracted player's choice, you just can't get rid of them.
