the club acted brilliantly, a suspension would have achieved absoultely nothing, instead it is on the record that he will be given the chop if he acts up again and this time we are taking action to help him with his problems -he has to prove to everyone including himself that he can still contribute - if he doesn't we can drop him, if he plays up again we can trade him

So if he does it one more time he gets sacked from the club

If I was a betting man I 'd say Fev will be a clean skin all season and a couple of weeks after trade week bingo in trouble again .

Then what do they do

Just hope the club gets rid of him at trade week

It is bullshit to say he has a long history of poor off-field behaviour. His incidents are minor compared to a number running around the AFl, and have been few and far between.

He has never been charged with assault, and his most violent act was in Ireland and that was minor at the best.

The media love whipping up the fragile mentalities of the weak and exploiting it for all they can. To such an extent that people actually BELIEVE Fevola has had a dozen or so chances when in fact he has only one slightly major incident in his past.

you are right. he is by no means the worst. didak is quite clearly the worst (and he didn't miss a game). there are others who rate ahead of fevola on that scale.

that is not the point.

the point is what level of discipline do we require in our club? 6 months off, because you will recall we did not play finals, and less than a week before the first game of the new dawn, and in the midst of a scurrilous campaign to besmirch our club with the label cheat, he behaves like this.

It is simply not what i want from my team or my players. With this attitude, we simply will not win a flag. in fact, I reckon it will cost us a flag.

we had an opportunity to say unacceptable.

We blew it.

Instead we paid homage to the almighty god of talent. Those who have talent can do anything. Anything at all, and all will be forgiven.

Who will lay me odds that at the next alcohol fuelled incident (and there will be one) the club will not sack him, but rather some other excuse will be trotted out about how, he really just needs you know, more attention from his Mum or something.

I consider the whole episode appalling, from Club and player.

The lack of a suspension makes us look pathetic.

Everytime something like this happens ot not Brendan Fevola, private citizen, its Brendan Fevola - Carlton Footballer....you can argue the fairness of that until you're blue in the face, but if he wants a private life then perhaps he would do well to stay off the footy show and not sell his wedding photos/story of his marriage strife to the tabloids. Lots of other players manager to keep their heads down.

The Club name gets dragged through the mud too - lets see how our sponors feel about their logo showing up at a press conference for a bloke who felt the need to relieve himself on a shop window in front of people - if I was the brand manager, I'd pull the sponsorship.

I think the club missed an opportunity - realistically we are not going to win the flag this year - what harm does suspending him for one match do - at worse its 4 points (we're not exactly immune to losing) but it sends a clear and valuable message that we dont tolerate indiscretions, regardless of who/how good you are.

By raising "the other indiscretions that dont make it to the Herald Sun..." you are well and truly wading into the arena of gossip magazine. Good Lord, is that what we want TC to represent?

It's a typical TC witch hunt, which will be happening again next year and in five years to some poor other sod who plays for Carlton.

what for - half a pack of twisties and a can of doctor pepper...
first of all, his contract expires at the end of the year - so if we dont re-sign him he goes - we get nothing
secondly - with the AFL going hardline on player discipline most clubs will be reluctant to chance a bloke who'd had 10 years to get his act together and is a walking headline.

Verbs, when your talent is as elite as Fev's is, I think it only reasonable to expect some consistency in behaviour. When on song he is unbeatable. Yet to the average punter like me it seems that he is very easily distracted both on field and off.

I think that this time around when he was appointed to perhaps the most important leadership group we have had then I and many others expected something more.

Unfortunately Boxhead Brendan has failed to deliver and the clubs response smacks of favourtism.

exactly. when has fev had so many chances, all over such little things, and people sit here all high and mighty judging him, bagging the shit out of him, wanting him gone when no of them really know fev, they get all hyped by wot wanks from the media say and blow out of porportion. Did fev kill anyone? NO, did fev physically assault or harm anyone? NO, did fev take drugs or indanger anyones life? NO. He made a mistake like all of us do, and if ppl dont think they do then they r kiddin themselfs, how many ppl here go to work still pissed or hungover from the night before and they just hide it, nothin is said.

Im glad some of these carlton supporters arent runnin the club because we would be a disgrace if they did. Bandwagon supporters because they luv him wen his going and claim to have always liked him but when he flowers up and makes a mistake which every single person alive does, they want his head, just like what the club should do to brendan, everyone on here was sayin they must at least suspend fev if they dont it would be a disgrace, the club didnt suspend him they fined him and droped him from the leadership group and now everyone thinks thats the right decision.

At least fev has admitted to havin a problem, and is now gettin some help, the question i ask was why wasnt this help with alcohol provided earlier. Fev is a lot smarter than people think and just because the tv persona he has ppl think his not that bright which in fact he is. The media are a piece of shit most of the time. One last thing how bout supporters stop givin shit to fev and its own players and stick up for there players for once because they do play for this great club u see collingwood supporters they defend there players and stick up for them if wen they do somethin wrong, just look at the didak thing last year, the eagles supporters with ben cousins, what he did was far worse then wot fev has ever done and yet they still supported him, the reality is we would be in the shithole with out fev.

Rather I'm referring to my own personal experiences with the delightfully drunken brendan - does something only count if its aired in the herald sun?

Gossip doesn't count.

This is not the CWA.

well friend, if you are right, he'll be a fantastic asset to the Carlton football Club for many years. If you are wrong, and our failure to suspend him for Judd's first game costs us a flag, we'll all be the worse off.

I guess we will simply have to differ.

I hope you are right.

i fear you are not.

possibly the most absurd, knee jerk reaction iver ever, ever seen. ive never seen one person draw such a long bow.

Lofty they may be Verbs, but i would rather support blokes who were wise with their talent than flower who wasted it.

Brendan is elite but how many other football fans are ever going to see him in this way. Thus far he is a 10 year player with one stellar year under his belt. It is a great shame in my opinion.

let's be clear, no one wants Fev's head. what we all want is Fev firing on all cylinders, kicking bags of goals and winning games for us.

But we also wnat to be sure that he understands what we need from him, that he does not treat this like some joke or some silly little trifle or that we will forgive him regardless. he needs to understand that he can't go on mucking up, or he will lose his chance.

And that is what would be sad.

I only think that given the importance of this game, he ought to have behaved better. We all know how important this game is. If Fev hadn't got caught. then none of us would be the wiser. But he did. His behavious created this - a distraction (as Carrots said), another negative headline.

It is for his failure to consider the consequences, less than his conduct (although i dont condone that either) that means he should have been suspended for the opening game.

If he loves footy so much - he should stop taking it for granted.

He is elite, as is anyone who has played over 100 games of AFL footy. I can't see how anyone couldn't see him as an elite footballer. He has done a wonderful job in a pretty ordinary team, which in the last few years has only got worse.

The "hype" about him being some bad-boy is ridiculous when you look at the incidents on his so called rap sheet. It's embarrassing that it's even being called that.

Ever been in the Army?? I was taken from home as a naive young man, moved overseas and then interstate away from my family to be trained in my new career. Work was very physically demanding but we worked hard and played hard. Alcohol and craziness on a scale not imagined by footballers was a regular occurrence. When we were kept in camp and not allowed out we instead went to the various messes and clubs on the base. Occasionally people got locked up, sacked or made the papers. I lost track of the bodily fluids spilled both on base and out on the turps! Fev would love the Army!!!
