Well clearly that's not going to happen if he is immediately named after a week off with injury.

I still can't get my head around Lucas being selected, I struggle to see what he brings to the side to justify an automatic inclusion, I would have rather played Menzel, Bell or Buckley.

I can't can Eddie for his performance, he hasn't played a great deal of footy this year, Friday was his first game back after being out for 3 and the game he got rubbed out in was his first back after injury, in hindsight probably should have played him in the twos.

I wonder if Yarran is completely over his hammy yet, that is the only reason that I can think of that justifies him being the sub.

Think that was just an selection error.

I'm not sure you can really compare our win-loss record to last year. We won our first three last year then went downhill very quickly. We lost our first three this year and have been much more competitive overall.

well tacles doesnt mean u run in and guard space or run 2 ways.

means ball up ball down someone has it tackle the guy next to u

Gibbs was great!!!... sold short.. without blitzing he was one of ur better contributors

Just watching On The Couch.

Very interesting to see the terrible errors made by Simon White in the last quarter.

The first was his pathetic attempt to tackle Carlisle - it didn't stick and Carlisle ran into goal.

The other more concerning error was White leaving his opponent (Myers) at a very strange time to make it a two on one. Essendon* won the ball and Myers had moved towards goal; marked and kicked it.

The Melksham goal occurred when Kreuzer couldn't decide who to defend; who to go to.

The common factor throughout was the lack of a 'goalkeeper', the lack of a loose man back there to defend.

Surely if Laidler is back to fitness he gets a game ahead of White; previously when Laidler has been fit the defence looks more assured. Henderson has developed very well and can now outmark his opponent; but with Laidler there too it is a very strong defence. White barely intercept marks.

The defence was opened up with ease.

Took till today before I could post, so emotional I was after that game.

I knew we were in trouble when we started to play tempo football. We are shit at executing tempo football. We stop running; our work rate drops off and we stop doing the things that had us in control. It also completely disables our great asset up forward, the small forwards because we move the ball too slowly. What disappoints me, is that, it is our senior players that initiate it and then turn the ball over.

For me, leadership is the single biggest issue. To be honest, I am not sure what MM can do about it.
Even if we get incremental improvement with forward 50 entries, in big games, it will be leadership that counts. We don't have it.

Nothin brings more uncertainty to the game than uncertainty.

its why you cull the ones who bring uncertainty to the others.

There must be a sense of predictability in what everyone is doing....

Roos described North as being a momentum team; I think it applies to Carlton too (looking at the other thread about scoring runs).

The other issue Carlton has it that during it's run of momentum it doesn't take enough chances (it didn't in the first qtr).

Was saying that to a dirty Essendon* supporter today along with telling him his team is shit and a bunch of drug cheats

North are copping all the flack for being chokers but we are just as mentally weak as they are

I note that as we choked against the media darlings, the focus has been mainly all on the winners rather than the losers

Just watched that and came here to highlight it.

Horrible errors that cannot be tolerated.

How can footballers at AFL level be so dumb? I ask that seriously.

We don't do the defensive basics well at the best of times but under pressure we are woeful.

Won't make any meaningful improvement until this becomes second nature for every player.

Spot on I reckon, killing teams during your momentum drains the opposition mentally and physically. Finishing is a real problem.

Just on the momentum thing, every side bursts in periods of momentum during a game. The better sides do more damage during their momentum bursts and drain more energy out of their opponent, their offense becomes their defense. Finishing at the moment is a real problem for this team. It's been a problem for a number of years. How the fooook do you fix that... Boh

White is crap. Makes simple errors which kills us. His kick for goal late in the quarter sums him up. Awful attempt.

This clearly shows we lack depth on our list

Unfortunately Laidler lacks more pace since his knee injury and this will hold him back. Although, he should be in the team before White. Just need to find a good match up for him.

The White miss tackle was embarrasing and something we should not tolerate. Will be interesting to see how Malthouse addresses this at the selection table. We need to make statements when it comes to these things. Enough is enough.
