What is the contract like in comparison to Hawthorn's ? My guess is like all things - Hawthorn (the AFL's darling) gets a protected and better deal.

Can Carlton sell "away" games at the MCG as "home" games like Hawthorn can?

eg have membership with 6 home games at the G and another 2 let's say away games vs Collingwood and Richmond.

eg give the option of membership without Etihad matches.

Personally, I don't mind Docklands stadium. Close to the city. good viewing on lower levels..but if the idea is to grow membership to match the AFL's favoured teams then this should be on the table. It isn't a level playing field, so Carlton should do whatever it can to make up for the advantages other teams get from the AFL.

Said Victoria Park wasn't feesible for space reasons. Tell ya what though, of all clubs' remaining suburban home grounds, Visy Park would have to be the best-positioned ground to revive. Would love to play home games against interstate clubs there instead of Etihad.

Relucantly ask this knowing the mong fallout that'll happen from those who I'm not asking the question to - but anyhow - how is it the best positioned ground? Especially if East-West Link doesn't occur?

I don't think they are referring to geographically positioned.

Well, assuming all the playing surfaces of old suburban fortresses are equally well maintained (except maybe Victoria park), and factoring in that the majority of supporters these days don't actually live in or near the actual "suburb" of the team they support and will travel from all over:

Punt Road is the most accessible, but no room for stands.
Visy park and Victoria park are more accessible than Arden St, Whitten oval, Windy Hill, Moorabbin, Glenferrie...
Visy Park also has functional stands covering large parts of the ground and space for more around 360 degrees of the oval.
Victoria park has, as far as I know, basically nothing left, right?

Eddie starting to tread the same levels of hubris which John Elliott displayed at the end of his presidency.

Time to go Eddie before you tarnish and sully a great legacy.

Not that hard to upgrade

Visy park and Victoria park are more accessible than Arden St, Whitten oval, Windy Hill, Moorabbin, Glenferrie...
Visy Park also has functional stands covering large parts of the ground and space for more around 360 degrees of the oval.
Victoria park has, as far as I know, basically nothing left, right?[/quote]

No swinging electorate to "service".
Victoria Park has better public transport infrastructure / Visy has better parking. One of those has to change.
The stands weren't functional 18 years ago. No-one wants to sit in the Legends Stand.

Using Geelong's constant redevelopments being approved by state and federal governments as an example - if it happens at all - I'd think either second Bellarine based side, Ballarat, Frankston or Casey. Anything else goes against self-interest.

I am reviving this thread:

2001 Brisbane - Gabba
2002 Brisbane - Gabba
2003 Brisbane - Gabba
2004 Port Adelaide - AAMI
2005 Sydney - SCG
2006 West Coast - Subiaco
2007 Geelong - Skilled
2008 Hawthorn - MCG
2009 Geelong - Skilled
2010 Collingwood - MCG
2011 Geelong - Skilled
2012 Sydney (SCG)
2013 Hawthorn (MCG)
2014 Hawthorn (MCG)
2015 Hawthorn (MCG)

Apart from the exceptional first year of 2000 with Essendon* (read the thread), having a home ground at Etihad will not generate a Premiership.

Carlton under the judge now has an even split of home games at MCG and Etihad

We need to get more home games at the MCG for Premiership success at Carlton...

6 games in Hobart or Bendigo wouldn't hurt either.

Or Ballarat. There are going to be lots of Muslims in Bendigo soon and they prefer soccer.

FYI Hawthorn has a higher winning % at Etihad than MCG and as per your own post, the Premier's all have different size grounds from the small SCG to the long Subiaco.

Time to lose the hor$e$hit and accept that good teams perform no matter the ground and we have not been a good team in the last 15 years.
