Can you believe our list management crew seriously thought Jeremy Laidler would net us a second or early third round draft pick.

They also thought freo or west coast would hand over a second round for Bootsma.

The plan was to have 3 or 4 pics in the first two rounds. Plus Docherty and Savage.

Without those picks, we cannot trade for players as Mick wants most of list changes to come via the draft.

What pisses me of is we are shopping around players who can actually play football but want to play football at the Carlton football club.

Jeremy Laidler is no slouch. Other clubs know they'll get 100 games or so out of him. And can pick him up for nothing as delisted free agent or a late draft pick. Laids is probably the most loved player out or club amongst the boys. You can see why some are frustrated with how he was treated when they know and we know he can play football.

No wonder why some players have seriously considered offers from other clubs.

If some players seriously considered offers from other clubs why haven't they left?

Laidler did not play any games this year in the VFL that demanded he be picked in the seniors. He sulked & chose to ignore Mick's suggestion to play forward & asked to be played in defence again - once he did so he was gone. His interview on trade radio a couple of weeks ago was pathetic - one minute saying he was drafted as a forward to Geelong & then the next saying how strange it was Mick wanted him to play forward. Duigan got a look in @ the end of the year because he followed Mick's instructions in the VFL. Laidler's attitude was crap. And FWIW I used to love Laidler.

We did think the WA clubs would bite for Boots tho & Lucas et-al haven't as yet garnered much interest which has stymied our 'strategy' to get more picks.
Laidler should have been played to see A: If he could have an impact; and B: Possibly Increase his trade value and suggest to other clubs we might keep him.

..would continue with the lucas development.. ..in regards to playing laids, or those like him to increase trade value, a big no from me.. ..we need to get the team playing real football, we need to instill good football habits.. ..this is the biggest prioritity, otherwise it doesnt matter who you get thru trades, bad football loses games more often than avg players do..

Will we have enough cap to offer Lucas a new contract?

That is crap.
Other Clubs have paid overs for average players.
Who did you want us to chase ?
Would a soft outsider like Dal Santo make a difference to our midfield ?
Would you have swapped your best Ruckman for Savage like the Aints did ?
Would you offer a 2nd Rounder and a 3 year deal for an underperformer in Vince like the DeeTs did ?
Would you offer 2 years and decent coin to a 32 y o with dodgy hammies in Chapman like the Scum did ?
Would you offer a 2nd Round pick, and a 4 year deal on good coin to Stu Crameri like the Dogs did ?

People need to understand that we shouldn't just trade for trades sake. That's Crazy Vossy, or Crazy Neeldy type stuff!!!

Good post Dom. Reality check.....I need one.

I'm one who wanted to get new players in via trades but I wouldn't pay overs.

I would have liked Pods and Chapman.
I'd give Pods 2 years but not Chappy.

I still like the idea of Staker sedite being dead against him before.
I dont have a lot of faith in our ability to pick a gem at pick 32 let alone pick 13.

Don't know about that pluepill. We have no money left in the cap because we resigned Juddy on nearly $1mil a year. In fact we might not even be able to pay the new rookies. Haven't you been paying attention?

Surprised we haven't publicly declared interest in Nick Smith, if for nothing else, trying to shake Docherty from Brisbane for less than what they're after.

You'll be donking on the other side of your mind when t the sobering thought of us inexplicably stuck in quicksand for some more years even though we had Judd sets into your naive mind....
Is just what's happening.... People don't like to face reality.

Some of our players have been considering offers from other clubs. Plenty of clubs are circling.......

likely but not unliely he has 2 more years in him.... maybe next year he can do another big pay cut... maybe to 700k

i still dont get why we have to wait to 2015 to manage our list properly.....

we must wait another year to do that......

cant bring it into line last year ... the year before or this year.... next year maybe.. depends on juddy and the others....on way too much money

maybe if juddy does leave we might have to pay the others more to keep them from being raided by opposition clubs...

who nows??... eveything is fluid... nothing planned...

why not get a haircut a proper one... and then fronnt load a couple of contracts with an extension and have even more money to chase someone next year???

That way you keep a gibbs/ kreuzer / murphy.. and you have more money in salary cap next year....

and if theyre not happy with an extension to their contracts plus some front loaded...theyre traded this year???

muchhhhhh smarter than paying juddy more millions and a wait n see if he retires next year.... and see what you can do with peoples contracts to keep the raiders off next year...

anyway.... what would i know??.... they have played footy... they know...theyre smarter....
