Lets keep blaming Mick for everything, and let the players get away unscathed AGAIN!!!
Getting rid of him before the end of the season would be financial suicide.
And he's too stubborn to walk away even if we get smashed against the Lions
We already spent millions payout out coaching only 3 years ago...

Your right.
I would go back to my under 15s days a very long time ago (as that is the level we are playing at right now) and make them run laps and lots of push ups next training session. Belt them on the training track.
Then what?
Put them in VFL?
Then what?
Give away prizes and free gifts to come to the game?

You really think the club would lose more money from a drop in memberships next season and the drop in attendances at gates this year or Mick sacked right now? Not even opposition teams will bother showing up to watch the crap we dishing up atm.

Financially, they can't keep mick at the club. More performances like the Pies game and we will taking huge losses in gate attendances. How can the club market memberships next season? Come to the club, join up, we will really really be better this season, as we are going to keep doing what we did this year without Juddy and a couple other players we will probably lose.

If Mick had the players behind him, buying into his game plan and playing for him, do you think they would of shown that in a carl v coll game with their coach breaking a record? It was such a big build up.

The players sent a message. Don't be sold on what the players say in interviews, actions speak louder than words.

Agree. I think we will lose money by keepin Malthouse on. I mean, who wants to go to games now, with nothing much positivity. We need to get on the front foot and plan for next year, and they need to show us that they are going in a positive manner for next year.

New coach, New direction, a focus on youth etc

If we keep on going like we are, interest is going to be lost.

There is no worse side in the game when it comes from taking the ball from one to the other. A chain of possession starting in Carlton’s defensive 50m results in an inside 50m only 13.6 per cent of the time — clearly ranked 18th.

In simple terms, the Blues can’t move the ball and when they inevitably chop it up, they can’t — or won’t — stop the opposition from going coast to coast to score against them.

Interesting comments regarding some players not interested in team success... just doing enough for a paycheck or contact.

It was the reason he almost retired last year... it's definitely the reason he'll retire this year imo.

but why are the players so publicly (without even being prompted by questioning) behind and backing Mick?

it's a mystery. they say they love him, then they play like turd for him

are they?
did you hear Juddie's diplomatic answer to a q. about MM continuing on SEN?

It was an interview on Crunch Time (saturday morning, with Huddo, dermy, robbo etc)

Yeah let's sack Mick now and people will suddenly start flocking to our games and buying memberships, and the players who were softcocks under Ratten as well as Malthouse will suddenly become leviathans.
Listen to what Juddy has to say, and he's one who has bought into what Mick is trying to instil.
Also have a listen to Jonathan Briwns comments regarding our players from 'On The Couch' tonight. Pretty damning, especially of the two Ciccones All Stars in Murphy and Gibbs.
Not saying I want Mick around next year, but sacking h now will solve nothing.

The players may have sent a message, but what's the message?

I can't see any formula to winning in todays football other than working harder than your opponents. Is some new coach going to show up and offer a better game plan that involves less work rate?

I honestly think our problems stem from our lack of forward power. We literally have the worst forward line in the comp. I'm not talking about some massive forward unit who kicks bags (would be nice though) just a balanced capable forward structure.

We have Casboult who, lets face it, is probably one of the biggest let downs of the modern era. A big bodied forward who can take a grab, but can't kick to save his life. Jones (the jury is still out imho) That leaves Henderson. Pretty simple to double up on your only forward option and shut him down.

We lost Waite, Garlett and Betts. Three very capable goal scorers sorely missed up forward.

I am pretty certain Malthouse had massive plans for Kreuzer up forward as a target with support from Casboult, Jones and Henderson. When you look at it that way, it doesn't seem like a bad set up. But no Kreuzer, Casboult can't slot them through, Jones looks a little lost and Henderson carrying the entire forward hopes on his shoulders week in week out isn't going to cut it.

And this is where our troubles stem from. The rest of the team know up forward, we have nothing. Its not that they don't believe or trust in some master game plan from Malthouse, I believe no matter who our coach is, you can only work with what you have. And in our case, what we don't have, and that's a potent forward line.
Its not that the team doesn't believe Malthouse is the man for the job, they see the obvious (they are professional footballers) and our forward set up is useless at the moment. Their lack of effort (though purely between the ears) is evident, for what's the point of moving the ball forward when their is little to no reward for effort?

If we want to blame Malthouse for the loss of Waite, Garlett and Betts, fine. That's a separate argument altogether. But as it stands right now, I don't believe there is a coach in the country who can work with what we HAVEN'T got up forward. And this is having an impact on team morale in a very significant way.

Malthouse is trying to get the boys to work harder to cover what we lack up forward. Its a complex issue he's facing, and one that requires EVERYONE to do their bit, and even then, its an uphill battle as the opposition know this and counters effectively. This, I believe, is why we have fade outs. The workload to cover our lack of forward potency puts us on the back foot from the first bounce.

Malthouse and all the boys pre-season raved about Kreuzer. I think they all could see a workable forward structure with the absence of Waite, Garlett and Betts, having Kreuzer, new recruit Jones and Henderson up forward. If, and that's a big if, Casboult improved his goal kicking, I could see how the boys were looking forward to the season.

Kreuzer goes down. Casboult hasn't improved. Jones is lost. And Henderson is a legend of a player who we're lucky to have, but lets face it, he ain't no FEVOLA!!!!!!!! :P

So I don't blame Malthouse for our current woes. He can only work with the cattle available and IF that cattle has some form. Right now, the entire team knows our forward set up blows chunks and its killing us.

Now maybe the cashed up board can pull a miracle and get us a forward worth his weight in gold, or its recruit, rebuild and get the cattle the coach needs to do his job.

And yet most weeks we win the clearances win the contested possession and have more 1% than the opposition.
They work hard to win the ball its what they do with it when they get it.
Thats not player work rate thats structure and coaching

Spoils are the bulk of the 1%er stat category Sydney; the other components are knock-ons and shepherds, I think.

LACK OF EFFORT
LACK OF INTENSITY
FOLLOWING A GAMEPLAN.
THERE IS NO BUYIN.

Sure the fact that 1/2 our forward line has gone since Mick has arrived and other key personnel have left isn't relevant right now. There is a reason players want to leave. I am also sure the players don't think MM is a flog after he told Brock and Lucas they would be resigned a couple weeks later they get a call out of the blue from McKay. That just kills trust in the coach.

But, lets forget about the cattle that are gone.

Port Power went from rabble to top 4 team instantly under hinkley.
Bulldogs went from rabble last year and come out with a spark with Beveridge.

The stupidest thing in the world would be to keep him at the club. Judge his current performance on face value. Forget the 30 years of coaching he has had and judge.

Is Mick at Carlton worse than Mark Neeld at Melbourne? That is where we are right now. Carlton have a decent list, but not playing to potential.

We watch the games don't we?
Put ten players around the ball, you win the contested possession...problem is those pesky other coaches....they just don't get it...they keep changing stuff on us...they drop one or two out of the congestion...
See...8or 9 opposition in a crowded contest will still make the ball carrier pressured and dispose of it in a rush to a "contest" where we are outnumbered. ...or if going into our forward line, outnumbered PLUS surrounded by players that can't chase, or poor Ellard who is slow and already rooted.
(Add the fact that we went in with 23/talls/taggers and leave our runners as a sub doesn't help)
Suddenly the ball comes back, across the field where someone has been on their own since the contested ball and we look like we're not running and spreading, and they just run in through the corridor to deliver perfectly to (add forwards name here) and every Carlton supporter goes "gee Rowe is a hack"

PHAAARK..it's been happening non stop since the season started.

..and then there's a a bunch of other fundamental errors ...where do I start. Either the players don't get it, the coach is a dope or both...either way, it's the coaches responsibility.

Thanks doof, any chance you could email Mick for us?
;)

Strategy and player selection means we're playing two players short all year...I just think the players are starting to see it when are starting to give up once they see teams start streaming the other way...that's why the motivation has gone

There is a couple of simultaneous factors here. Mick is past it as a coach, and the Pres is saying that all inc Gibbs is up for trade. Certainly not a good time to be a Blue Bagger :-)

Have a chat to Mick, say you can either walk with Junk Yard Dog as caretaker or we won't renew contract, and you can step down at year's end....your choice. Whichever he chooses we can start looking for best young coach or Bomber if he says yes. And tell the Pres to shut up for a while

It's not about work rate ? That's comedy GOLD!!
Do me a favour and watch Jonathan Brown and Gerrard Healy's analysis and absolutely devastating criticism of our players work rate on Friday night (or there lack of), in particular that of our Captain.
These were many of the same players who were laughed off as nothing but 'diwnhill skiiers' by the big Top 4 clubs in the Ratten years.
It's not about having to respond to prove a point. It's about knowing you have to put in that same effort week in week out, not just after a bad loss or after some criticism. That's what many on our current playing list just don't understand, and probably never will.
