Really hoping for a Sydney back-to-back over Hawthorn this year.

Hard to be critical but in first quarter Murphy should have had a ping for goal instead of the poor short pass. As a leader he needed to back himself and kick the goal we needed. 40m on a so so angle he should have had a shot

especially when he did kick that goal from 50

He knows he can't kick for crackers from a set shot.
It all goes back to when he missed two absolte sitters in a row that cost us the momentum in the WCE final.
He's been shit ever since.
His goal from 50 was on the move, no time to let the demons take control.

I remember early in his career he missed lots of goals on the run and the 'experts' on TV said it was because he fell away to his left (IIR) while he was in his kicking action.

Well he's a lot better at shots on the move now but his set shots are below standard and can't be relied on. Walker turned hisaround and Touhy is a gem as is Armfield and Eddie is also pretty reliable..
Kreuzer and Hampson have gone from good to awful and your favourite, Levi is just horrible but at least he is consistent. Simmo is like a scatter gun.

This match reminded me of our qualifying final loss against Melbourne in 2000.
It has pretty much ruined my weekend.

Yes, what makes it worse is it confirms most of our fears about this side.

My faith in the side has gone from minimal to about zilch.

I feel like the players should be responsible for responding to every smart arsed phone call, sms, email, facebook post and tweet we receive this week.

I've never felt as bad after a game as I did that day.

I went up to Sydney the following weekend to get away from footy.

I knew that Carlton's last chance to win a flag with that group died that day.

Casboult and Waite were playing too close to each other in the first quarter and as a result drawing more defenders to the contest.

When Lucas was running in for that shot every person at the ground or watching it on TV would have a "game over" thought enter their head.

Better roving at boundary throw ins would help our cause. Kruiz is palming them but nobody wants to receive them.

Henderson pass was correct and the only "reliable" option at that point in time of the game ... Over the top, near a boundary line ??? ... don't think so. By the way ... Yarran had the front spot and gave it up ... Yarran just didn't want to take the ownership in that situation ... a Tuohy type would have surged forward to take the mark ... do the regular and reliable thing.

On the topic of Yarran ... apparently he had the highest number of pressure acts (20) of any Carlton player against GWS ... can't see then why he wouldn't be a starter.

If the hurt of losing to Essendon* drives our players to beat Hawthorn, then it would have been worth it ... we know we can beat Essendon* ... beating them isn't so much as a measure of progress than beating Hawthorn ... a team we have really struggled with.

Well clearly that's not going to happen if he is immediately named after a week off with injury.

I still can't get my head around Lucas being selected, I struggle to see what he brings to the side to justify an automatic inclusion, I would have rather played Menzel, Bell or Buckley.

I can't can Eddie for his performance, he hasn't played a great deal of footy this year, Friday was his first game back after being out for 3 and the game he got rubbed out in was his first back after injury, in hindsight probably should have played him in the twos.

I wonder if Yarran is completely over his hammy yet, that is the only reason that I can think of that justifies him being the sub.
