Exactly John. As much as i admire David Parkin, and remain ever grateful for his contribution to the CFC, I think Brittain was a mistake. A bloody big one.

Hang on gents. Both Worsfold and Lyon were assistants at Carlton from 2000 to 01 so he must of had some idea about spotting talented coaches. In fact he always endorsed Lyon as a senior coach. They were probably too green at that stage to be given the senior position.
Anyway Brittain basically ran the show during this period. Probably the last time we were a serious contender. I thought he was a good coach but was ruined by injury in 02`.

Fair enough, PPW. Maybe it's the fact that I can only really recall Parko publicly endorsing two blokes: Britts and Ratts. He's still a huge rap for Ratten. I can't see it.

Yes, i think Parko stuffed up on a few fronts but obviously got a fair bit right as well. He`s an advisor to the panel looking to appoint the Port coach so couldn`t have sold Ratts too well.

WB was clearly his worst choice.

Brittain was a good coach who was instructed to tank once the season was destroyed by injuries but everyone chooses to ignore that
The side didnt cop floggings in 2002 like they did in the next 5 years

The thing about Pagan is we won more Silverware under him than the previous 5 years or the recent five years.
the other thing about him is he has coached 2 AFL flags..... and strng together more prelimss in a row than Ratts has wins

worst coach ever to coach a side as good as this for as long as this.. and most players on our list have only known Ratts as coach...

There are a whole bunch of players who just stumbled under him.

I like to refer to them as our very own "stolen generation of young footballers"

The good thing is .... we now have a new coach.. and some of them can be salvaged...

imagine giving him a 6th year,,,,???Wow.. Oh Wee!!.. ouch!!!.. it was bad enough....

Malthouse wont do much better
We will improve next year because players will be on the park
But the entire make up of the side needs to change to take the next step
To many soft outside players

He will need to be a master coach to get us back into the eight.

Whilst other teams seem to be targeting out of contract players which will provide long term improvement we're chasing a 30 year old Lynch to kick us a bag for the next two years.

With the likes of Richmond and Essendon* snapping at our heels, and Geelong looking to bolster their stocks with a few experienced players, we have our work cut out to get ahead or keep ahead of those guys, plus St Kilda, Fremantle, North etc. No walk in the park, and seems only possible if we avoid injuries.

is it really going to take alot to get us back on track? we have the list....certainly one as good as the swans.

what we dont have is a bunch of guys that consistently live and die for each other, week in and week out.

i want supreme talents like gibbs and yarran to be playing for their lives.......out on the paddock in full knowledge that if that dont somebody will rip into them.

I love ratts and i love the fact that we won the '95 premiership in superb style..........but the club and it's culture has to get over itself and start demonstrating they stand for something (and themselves)!

forget about malthouse and how many premierships he may or may not have won. Each club he has taken on, he has left it in a far better place and set up for future success.

The same Pagan that had no plan b and refused to modify the game plan to suit the players at his disposal? ie. no Carey

We copped more 100 point beltings with him in charge than we did for the 100 years prior... he can stick those two AFL flags and those fizzwizz cup "silverware".

See, you can do it if you try.

Defence is the best form of attack... that's what MM will bring next year... that is what's required to take the next step... that hadn't and didn't look like occurring under Ratten.

True but he walked into a basket case club... and not just that but we fought a thrashing with a win.

The pattern with the Ratten era was no fight... we would ust go to water way too easily.
And he didnt have a bad list...... Pagan inherited a very old side and no draft picks.

Ratts.. had 3 number 1 s and the best olayer in the competition and an opportunity to mature the list.

Sad , sad coach... one of the worst ever.. considerig what he was gi ven.. training facicilities and a number of early picks.
The stolen 5 years....... was under Ratten..

Ps we will win more thna 4 in a row next year... and yeas people are right... Malthouse has inherited Rattens unbalanced list and will still do a better jog getting them to perform......

wow... what a waste.....!!!

Any ideas Sinners as to which players we maybe trying to entice. Seems Lynch is going to that black and white mob.

Lynch might be at the Demons.......
But still favourite to land at Carlton.
the other in the mix is Caddy but were second favourites....depending on what Geelong cough up.

What i did enjoy watching was a beautifully coached/ drilled and crafted team go about grinding out a victory.
Where Teddy Richards was a flake at the Dons he has been hardened.. same with Shaw... Kennedy is a gun now... and that Lewis Jetta .. wow... Watto can only dream..... and the older players keep giving every ounce of themselves to the cause... plus some great DRAFTING of MIDS.... if anybody wants to ever see the advantage of drafting mids and bolstering up a midfiield over 20 or so hbfers.. watch this game....agree with you colorman....the lost generation of midfielders...

Malthouse will have to develop leaders.. and he will.. we only have a couple.. and a captain who isnt much of a leader on the back of a give it to Juddy gameplan.. (how easy is that to close down?

)Sydney had a dozen of them... many of them young...
And how clean are they and they all stand up and stay on their feet......
