I cannot believe what I'm reading from some people. White is an average player who gets on the park for less than half a season, and has for his entire Carlton career.

Pop Quiz:

White vs. Franklin - who wins?
White vs. Cloke - who wins?
White vs. Kennedy - who wins?
White vs. Riewoldt (either one) - who wins?
White vs. Hawkins/Pavlich/Walker/Petrie/etc

You've seen Jamo towel up some of those blokes, and despite his recent injury problems he's still played more footy than White in every season.

White is a medium/third tall defender, and at the very least was behind Laidler, Duigan, Gibbs & McInnes. You could make a case for him being at the same level as McCarthy, Bower and Thornton.

That's a long list: he goes.

THIS!!!

Add to that his uncanny knack under pressure of being able to handball to opposition small forwards at critical moments in games!

White is a back up player. I can see why we might keep him.

If we use the idea that a player is handy back up as the primary reason for their retention, we have a serious lack of comprehension of the nature of AFL list structures when compared to American sports/international sports, etc.

We have a senior list of 44; we need to be developing constantly in that back 22 of players so that there's a spare for every role in our senior team. We should not be retaining players who haven't got much development in them if we see them as a backup; we should be moving on from them and looking to turning over the list so that we have a backup that is developing into a senior player.

Fellow defender Paul Bower is also understood to have been told his time at Visy Park has come to an end.

I think his elbow injury is a bigger concern.

Mentally fragile is my opinion, your opinion is his elbow.
A garthp really is not required and you of all people should be setting an example.

It reads like you think he's head case or a coward. Glib statement on a more in-depth issue, thank you for providing some clarification.

Not shocked to see any of those names mentioned. It's a shame about Thornton, but if we retain Bower I think we've made the necessary adjustments to turn over the list without rocking the apple cart too much. Would be thrilled if Kerr is rookied by us and has the appetite to come back from this.

I hope we're not that stupid. If we throw big money at Cloke we're going to take a tight salary cap problem in coming years and turn it into a crisis situation not long after winning a flag (assuming the acquisition pays off).

The interesting name missing from that list is Mitch Carter. Wonder what's going on there?

Not sure that's "irony" in the context of the current conversation...

But who would have thought those 2 would have been reunited?

We need a back pocket player on the list somewhere as backup with potential to develop: Joseph isn't that.

If we come through the delistings and feel as though Curnow should be elevated along with Tuohy (and potentially Casboult & O'Keeffe), there is the opportunity for Carter as the 3rd year rookie.

I've been trying to confirm the current rookie list rules, as both the 3rd year rookie and elevation as 3rd minimum draft choice were brought in during the GC & GWS transition phases. No idea if they are still in place.

Re watch the richmond game this year and riewoldt looses out against white and jamo.

white has some upside even if he is unfashionable.

He's not going to replace an genuine key back like Jamo ever but is a great 3rd man up, and has potential to full in thortons swing man role. He'll be behind Laidler, but i'd sooner cut/trade duigan to be honest. he's very average IMO.

with bower and t-brid gone, laider and mcinnes coming back from longer term injury he stays. count on it.

Is Bower actually gone? For that matter, Thornton and Russell are exploring their options. I wonder if we've actually turned our back on them.

If there's not being offered a likely regular senior spot at other suitors, they could come back (dunno if we'd take Russell though).

That's not confirmed, nor is it a statement by the club.

Given his treatment was Thornton'esque during the H&A season, I think you can bet the house on it.

Def not official at this point in time.

"Carlton will communicate any further changes to the playing list if and when they are made."
