David King gave us a nice rap too.
Said he had been unsure and a bit hard on Bolts in the past...
But now he can see a real system in place and lots of good players who are doing their bit well. He sees us winning games very very soon and unlucky not to have pulled off an upset.
But what would he know.

The team that defeated Freo who absolutely flogged North?

GC always start the year well

There has been talk by so called "experts" and 200 game players about our supposed "improvement" since the Murphy Gibbs Krueze era. Rarely have we translated talk into action. Enough talk. Play 4 quarters of consistent football without the lapses that opposition sides capitalise on; win games we should win and even surprise us every now and then by winning games we shouldn't. My expectations aren't astronomical, I would argue that the broader supporter base has been too accepting of the messaging coming from the club and the near enough is good enough approach. SOS knows what its about with his bold move on draft night. No more talk. Show us

2005 Murphy drafted
2006 Gibbs drafted
2007 Kreuzer drafted

Our ladder positions since:
2008 11th
2009 7th
2010 8th
2011 5th
2012 10th
2013 8th
2014 13th
2015 18th

So this tells me we did improve up until 2012, enter right stage Malthouse.
From 2014 onwards we start our next fall mainly due to our lack of depth and expectations far exceeding our ability. This is why the club has had to have a "FULL REBUILD" of the list. Starting with the 2015 draft.

54 players in 4 years is the largest rebuild of any club, EVER.

Last year was a minor (but painful) setback and an example of our lack of "experienced" depth.

Our Current team facts:
Experience: Ranked 17th
Age (oldest): Ranked 16th
Goals: Ranked 14th

-Enough talk, I agree.
-But as for 4 quarters, that's what I would like, but expecting that every game from a team with as many kids (especially our midfield) as we have is not realistic.
-Win games we should, with the above stats I would like to know what games we should be winning?? Please don't tell me the last two!

As for the broader supporters accepting near enough is good enough! maybe they just understand the facts, our position and the process better than you.

I can guarantee one thing though, all of us are hurting with every loss and all of us want Carlton to improve. But as most supporters and the wider community know, we will improve this year, just not to some of the expectations some here think we should.

Conditioning those on here to prepare for a loss to what some scribes referred to as the worst AFL list of all time

GC are the real deal.

Playing some great footy.
It will be a big challenge to beat them.
Easier to get Cheats or Melbourne at this stage. Hopefully all 3 teams. Plus Norf...

..the rebuild is mostly done, from here on out it's the usual tinkering every list continues to do.. ..but now is where we start to improve.. ..the years before don't count, as painful and time consuming as they were.. ..those years were to get us here, that's what a Full rebuild is.. ..we've got good youth, now they need time.. ..when most of them have clocked 60+ games is when it all happens..

Agree with patience and I am in for the long haul but next 2 games are winnable and those games in the last 2 years have been the most disappointing in my view - games against dogs freo gc north stkilda Brisbane over the last 2 years have been our most lamentable performances

For the whole club we need a win -Sydney and GC are gettable but we need to get off to good starts but also play more than 2 quarters of football

Watched the Bolton presser.....

"FILFTHY!" is what he said when some idiot journalist asked him what they would think about being in the game and losing (or something similar). Look at his face when he says it, the bluntness of the answer and its force should be evidence enough to show they are not accepting "honourable losses" or whatever.

Not sure why some are unable to see that.....

You seem to be missing the point. I'm not arguing whether or not Bolton accepts honourable losses and/or communicates the same to the player group, I am arguing that he has harnessed an environment where consistency of performance (including 4 quarter efforts) and a near enough is good enough attitude has festered. It is up to him and the coaching group to change this mindset within the player group and replace it with one that has both an edge to it and a pervading fear of losing. The next 2 weeks will be telling in this regard

Where is your proof of this and don't embarrass yourself by saying it's the win/loss column? Because you seem to be missing the point, that this is year 4 of a full rebuild with the 3rd youngest and 17th most experienced list in the AFL. What can't you get about the inconsistency of a young playing list? And it's not about the fear of losing (failure 1 as a coach), it's about having the confidence in winning and from any point during a game, which takes time.

Win some games to shut the likes of me up. Going by your logic, Gold Coast have a younger and less experienced list than we do- why are we being conditioned to a possible loss to them in a few weeks? Brisbane are younger and less experienced than us. Win some games and show me the $$

I was listening to Nick Riewoldt and Gary Lyon talking about Carlton this morning. That said they can definitely see an improvement in our system, our game style, our defence and improvement in our young midfielders.
Now, I'm not saying 200 game+ AFL players know as much as our esteemed negative Nancy's but I thought it could be worth mentioning

We have played 4 quarters of a possible 8. I'm sure Gaddy noticed the improvement there.
When we move the footy and maintain the rage, we go well. Then we inexplicably stop.
I suppose expecting them to play 4 quarters a week is pretty negative.
Thank goodness they played four quarters of a possible eight and not three or two! Is that better?
I'm sure you've read the accounts by various players during the golden era whereby they were too scared to lose because Jezza would take it out on then on the track during the week. I know it isn't as successful a ploy as inviting six of them home for a barbecue like BB does but there you go.
PA had three players with one game behind them in that game and two of them were standouts. They are in year ONE of a massive change of policy and direction. They decided at the end of last season to go for youth and to hell with it. Then they decided to completely change their game plan and to go all in with it. Gaddy and Nick Reiwoldt were pretty amazed by that last week. They were pretty amazed with how good Freo was as well and then GCS knocked them off.
Our positives are few. Our youth is coming along (slower than Brisbane for sure and we will find out about PA and GCS soon enough).
Our membership is up. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next month as far as further growth there is concerned.
The women went from last to the GF in about eight games.
Cripps is elite (and we may kill him before he is 25.)
Sydney is on the ropes. We should beat them if we can play 4 quarters of daring footy.

Most of us on here are numb from watching and listening to the boys being battered week after week, year after year. If you read my posts you would see I am a pretty glass half full sort of person. This week, I just sat and watched stupid decision after stupid decision with a few decent plays to keep us in the game.
I am actually wondering after we were overrun in both of the last quarters even though against PA we had an extra rotation, whether they are fit enough.
Shite. There I am being negative again.

Is that a trick question?

I don't see any improvement. I see us losing many games - some by a little, some by a lot. We'll get close to some good teams, and flogged by some ordinary teams. There will always be excuses and always be positives.

This won't change until we have change at the top.

I hope I'm wrong.

OK so where is the proof? What evidence do you have that this is fact?

He has never said nor implied that "near enough is good enough"....

"We won't be measured by wins and losses."

Everybody in the comp is measured by wins and losses. That's why they bother to play the games at all.

And I am saying that it is irrelevant what he says and does, and am judging Bolton on performance. We have won 3 games since 25 June 2017! Whatever he says in post game pressers or to the playing group is completely irrelevant until we see some sort of sustainable on field turnaround.

Wins are the best way to measure performance, but not the only way. You can be performing well in your job, but not getting wins on the field. Many on this forum will argue that is exactly what is happening right now. I think we can measure Bolton’s performance against what we think the team should be achieving on field. For me, it’s a pass mark so far in 2019. I didn’t expect us to win round 1 or 2. We were competitive in both games though. In contrast, the 2018 performance wasn’t up to scratch. I expected a 6-8 win season. We missed the mark by a long way.

Who is conditioning us? I think we should beat GC, but they won't be the easy beats some people think they will be. Brisbane does have a younger list but they are more experienced and have better on-field leaders.

We go to their home ground, lose our best KPP early in the game, compete hard and go down by 14 points.
Yet the usual whingers and sooks who seem to revel in negativity are jumping at the opportunity to espouse their usual negative crap.

No one is happy to lose. We all would like to win but let's be @#$%&! realistic. We won 2 games last year.
I want to see improvement and a reasonable increase in wins. So far our backline is performing better, our youngsters are getting opportunities and we've been highly competitive late in both our games. Let's get a reasonable sample size to assess our progression before getting the knives out.
Some posters only appear when there's something to sook about. @#$%&! pathetic.

Consensus is the club, members, supporters and TC need a @#$%&! win and we all think this team can produce one this week. Regardless of what the last 44 games have been like.

I hope the whole club is as itchy as me for one and play like it against Sydney.

(If McVeigh gets forty touches and they win I’ll spew up like Terry!) :)
