Oh yes terrific players Garlett and Waite. Really have that finals toughness you build a culture around.

All very true ... But that's a shit hf line :yikes:

I dont think Malthouse is the problem. The coach is the least of the issues. Infact given a half decent list he would deliver results. We are going that badly that we don't see, he is the best thing going for us. The core of the problem is the lack of football people on the board and a president who has vision to drive the club. The irony is the best recruiting of the last 15 years was done in the last 2 and that isnt saying much with questions over bokehurst at pick 19. The same people who wanted a change of culture are bemoaning the loss of Waite, Garlett and Robinson. The same people who didnt want us to hand out long term contracts criticise the loss of betts. In hindsight we should of kept him but he kicked 20 goals the year before and Thomas style was more of what we needed. Was the problem with the medical assessment. The same people who criticised our lack of 23 to 28 year old spend more time panning everitt, docherty etc instead of the root cause which was a bust on every draft from 2002 to 2011.

Best post I have read in this thread by far!!

Everyone is so blinded in their desire for immediate success that they want drastic action to be taken on the coach, I get that. But for the same people calling for Malthouse's head - when does it get to the point where history repeating itself is considered the worst way forward for the Club?

I, for one do not want another coach sacked until the Club agrees to do a full EOI and interview process with the best candidates in the Country, regardless of experience. Sacking Malthouse during this season will only force the Club to make another ill-fated decision on hiring whomever is available at the time. I can't handle seeing this happen again. It's like Groundhog Day.

So, does he get more years on $1.0m a year?

How many?

I never said anything about giving him extra years - I was referring to sacking coaches before their Contract is up.

By all means if things haven't turned around by mid season the Club should start the search for a new coach, but let's allow him see out his Contract at least.

If continued improvement can be seen for the rest of the season, then consider offering him a new Contract on a reduced salary.

Had to laugh, i friend rang me last night asking if i had heard the rumour. What rumour? The one that MM will walk away after he breaks the record. So who will coach us I asked. SOS will apparently. Going to have his work cut out being head of recruiting and coaching at the same time.

scarily true.
not sure if we can post the segment..maybe wookie can?

Yeh saw that myself, I also cringed at the half forward line of Armfield, Jones, Ellard. When MM arrived it could read Garlett, Waite, Betts..... I can't stand this coach and the crap he's done and said since he arrived.

Bad Bax bax...don't get caught up in the imagery. From what I read today:

It wasn't MM who decided they were going.
MLD told the MC what he thought and what we as a club shouldn't accept: to improve our culture.
They were MLDs thoughts but not directives. The final decision was MC and Board.
The MC and Board decided to not offer a second year let alone a spot on the list.
Not MMs doing.
Coaches are the first to forgive coz they want the best on the paddock.
Especially so when you have a coach with a good win loss record over a lon long time, as did Pagan.
Pagans W-L average went downhill after his stint with Carlton.
Get it?

Sorry can't take any off this. If Malthouse wanted any of these players they would have stayed simple!
Spin it any way you want the Coach has the final say.

Micks presser today didn't sound like he's onboard the 'rebuild' mantra.

This isn't going to end well...

He said the rebuild is Silvagni's end of it, and he simply uses the list to forge a team that competes. That's a reasonable overview?

Yep should have kept Garlett on our list

Imagine trying to tell your kids to support a club that kept a player with such issues? "Hey little johnny come on support Carlton, they have irresponsible messed up players on their list that drink and drive without a licence and play Russian roulette with peoples lives in doing so"

Please spare me the tears on getting rid of such a player!

I'm trying my best to get behind MM, but hearing his comments at the presser today, Im thinking that he's not quite on board with the rest of the Club in erms of rebuilding.

..MM would be a fan of the rebuild, but they take time.. ..it'd be silly to switch coaches mid rebuild.... ..he's already been trying to kick start the rebuild.. ..but he can't undercut the players' confidence that he is currently coaching..

Well, if you've ever heard Robbo interviewed, you'd agree that he did stay simple. My guess is Garlett and Waite stayed simple too.

I like the idea of kids having to earn their games in the seniors. Malthouse has been good that way but it's just a shame those players we want to see in (Boekhurst being one) have not warranted selection yet.

Go to the Port Adelaide facebook page and look for the video of Hinkley telling Brendon Ah Chee he's playing his first AFL game. You earn your spot on merit.
