We had him delisted/retired by end of season on here a couple of games ago!

Just want to say for posterity that I think he'll be a legend/average/spud at the end

True.

Same thing happened 2 years ago too. Simmo started the season like an old man, doing uncharacteristic things, fumbling, missing targets, then got criticised for it and he turned it around to be one of our best (again) for the season.

This year he had his best preseason ever, breaking his PB's and then started the season like an old man....here we go again. I thought this time its over for him this year, but I did have a clue. The clue was his age, and it will be his age which forces him to stop one day, so its a fact of life, not without a clue.

I'm really excited to see him turn it around again. I mean it wasn't a huge slump, only a couple of rounds, but it looked bad imo. He missed targets, seemed to have lost a yard, and wasn't breaking tackles. That's a clue, aint it?

He has lost a yard but he's footy smart, and has found a way, and/or found his stride/mojo.

I guess the clear message is, and it is repeated often enough, we should be planning for life after Simmo because the common question amonst all Carltonians is how are we going to replace Simmo when he finishes? All of us, because we respect what he has brought to our team for 15 years, and we know it will come to an end.

We ALL have a inkling that Simmo is closer to the end than not. None of us know exactly. We all have a clue.

Tell me, how long (in months or years) will Simmo continue with the form he's shown in the last 2 rounds, especially against faster opponents? Any clue?

certain physiques suggest longevity. His is one. But of course he is only human. So if he gets a major injury, its curtains I am afraid. If not..............

Better to go a season too early than stay a season too long.

Who cares, the difference we're talking about at that point is our last pick in the rookie draft.

He holds back nothing if he has the quality to play on.

Simmo is a wise old head without a stupid ego. You one or two of those guys on your playing list.

Love Simmo. Great player.

I think jimmae was right a few weeks ago - don't play him on the sparkly little forward, but let him create and zone. he's a ripper.

That works.

If we can get another season out of him, let alone 2 as the extra player down back and defensive mid...introduce McKay and a FA for FF and CHF, add Jaksch and a first rounder and Tomlison/ GWS player or something and the kids like Cuningham, Rainbow or Boekhurst and we have a bit of depth coming through. There's pace to add when we want it I guess.

I'm getting cocky to think we can turn this within 66 games. Fingers crossed

Yes, he has a hell of a lot of knowledge to pass on to Cuningham, DVR, Boekhorst etc.

Peoples thoughts on Josh Jenkins??
Offer 4 years @550k?? Not sure what it would take.
With McKay, Casboult, Curnow and Jenkins, not a bad forward line.
I can see SOS going after Thomlison though.

We should be trying to find the next Lynch or Jenkins if we can: guys who are undervalued because they didn't initially live up to their draft status, or guys who were drafted for one role but undervalued in another.

Hopefully we've done that with Gorringe.

Jenkins going very well in a strong forward line, but not the guy you'd build a young developing forward line around in a development side. He's also 28 at the start of next year, so the wrong guy we should be throwing mega dollars (and picks) at.

On a side note, it's taken two 40+ goal seasons, and then a strong start to this year for the media to finally cotton on that Essendon* gave him away for nothing. Whilst we do deserve criticism for losing some players, Menzel kicking 1 goal in a NAB game was enough for Channel 7 to run with a "look away now Carlton supporters" promo earlier in the year.

Lynch was pick 13, Jones was pick 32.

A closer analogy would be Jaksch, but he's also further away from being a key forward than either of those two ever were. Whether he's a good forward or not, time will tell.

Too old for us.
Let the Bummers waste there money on him after they gave him up for nothing.

I'd be more than happy with Tomlinson.
