I'm happy with the changes and don't understand the love affair with Setanta.

Sure he did well playing against Essendon* (Lovett-Murray on him)
Then he did well against a WAFL strength Freo.

Cloke ain't much but against a weak Lions defence he offers more than Setanta IMO.

If you go to the mad Irishman thread Beno said he can't kick and they may be a chance he has the same injury as last year
I don't know Beano from a bar of soap but he seems to have the inside word on the Irishman

I would give Bower every chance against Bradshaw on the lead...50/50 in a wrestle but on the lead he can go with him.

Then Bower can run off Bradshaw and provide a link through the middle...make the Lions MC worry about Bower.

Not sure any defender can beat J Brown when he's getting good supply. Simply equation you apply defensive pressure in the middle, you zone well to reduce the speed and efficiency with which they can bring the ball from defence to attack. So win our fair share of clearances/inside 50s. We smashed them there in round 2 and jumped them in the second game.

Grigg offers flexibility - some on TC have said he wouldn't be getting a game until he followed instructions...Ratts was down at Frankston so must have been happy. Grigg can forward tag Drummond or go into the middle on Black/Rich/Power or win the ball himself. McGrath has been in excellent form recently so he could also go onto him. Or he could go with Johnstone if they decide to put JR onto someone else.

JR is the one to go to that front running cauliflower Sherman. Smash the front running @#$%&! JR.

We might win this one but I don't like the symbolism of having Cloke at CHF.

I don't know how far a club can go with such big slow lug in a position of importance on the ground.

A couple of strong, courageous marks at the right time than he'll have done his job and I'll be happy.

You forgot the words 'need to'. Your form is slipping. :banghead:

It's not as though this is a new problem Paf - we've been discussing it on here for a while.

Hopefully it will be addressed in November but even that isn't a certainty given our draft position and the danger of passing over more talented players in search of a 'type'.

I Know...I know. Many of us like the idea of Setanta rather than the actual output but the alternative is bloody frustrating.

I'd like to see Cloke played from the square (swapping with Krueze) that way his direct opponent is dragged deep. Fev to play ahead of Cloke.

I don’t play stats.
But
Tackles
Hitouts
Inside 50's
Disposals.

CloLimited opportunities Cloke is in front..................

I trust the MC
Then again I trusted Parkin, Pagan, Ratts

You forgot another stat, Carlton 415 possies last week Adelaide 400 - so I guess that makes us better than Adelaide.

It's not just about stats, its about being able to compete at ground level after a marking contest, it's about whether you can run after a defender, its about how much time three ruckmen will spend on the bench, and how this will affect our other rotations, its about who goes back if TBird is in trouble or if we need to free him up to do what he does best, third defender able to drift in and mark etc.

Cloke hasn't been selected as a forward for about 12 weeks. Why would you do it now? Big K hasn't played as a key forward all year. Hardly the time to trial him in a final. We have had all year to use Cloke at CHF and halfway through the year he was found to be wanting. He played okay in the ruck as Hammers replacement. The MC aren't stupid enough to play 3 big ruckmen.

I suspect Hammer has an injury and will drop out

That's my tip, otherwise we are far too top heavy and lack flexibility and options.

I must watch different games to most he has been terrible the last 3 weeks

You must have watched a different game SB, he had a goal and three score assists and the sme number of possies as Fev, even tho his team mates went to Fev everytime no matter where he was or how many he had on him. But you are right, he was ordinary as were almost all his team mates. Hasn't been as good since Fev smashed him, but was good v Geelong and previously v Sts and Dogs, so good form ag the top three. As for Cloke having 16 pssies and whatever else your predicting..... if he does we will have won by 30 goals. he's not playing Frankston this week. After his indiscretion last week he deserves no favours but has got one. And it is not about tackles all the time it is about zoning and putting on inferred pressure. Clole wouldn't catch me if I had a metre on him.

Selecting three ruckmen is madness and leaves us a man down. We have basically run out of tall, mobile players, but I think keeping a settled side for most of the last 10 weeks and then making major changes in the last 2 weeks is asking for trouble.

Grigg but he couldn't get in the 25 last week when 3 guys had been suspended. Now after playing Frankston, who are substandard, he gets back in. I like him but if his form hasn't been up to it for the last 6 weeks, last weeks game was not much of a guide.

Yarran did nothing to get dropped and neither Gartlett nor Cloke have enough credits to waltz straight in after stuffing up.

Sorry Gerry, whatever you think of Grigga's merits, he's way ahead of Browne and Johnson at the minute. He's been getting the ball for the Ants for many weeks now, last week he was finally hitting targets apparently - the last piece of the puzzle as far as the MC was concerned. He's the man, I'm sure.

Carlton's playing mind games with Brisbane and I like it - that is of course, if Setanta is playing in his natural CHF position and Hammer is the one who is missing.

A little disappointed for Yazz...... Should be playing, but I have a sinking feeling it came down to him or Wiggins and they chose to go with Wiggo's role over Yazz'. Might not make sense to some, but, I believe the FF line of Betts, Fevola, Garlett was set after the Melbourne game even with indiscretions.

Spot on!
They are the ones who should be crapping their jocks...
but being the basketcase club that we are, we have all worked ourselves into a frenzy over cloke, setanta, the MC, and garlett.

Here's hoping Ratts and the boys have cool heads - we beat them twice, with less injuries then they will have this time.

Confidence !!!!

Last time we played Brisbane Grigg played on Black didn't he? I think he'll go to him again. Joseph/Carrazzo/Russell to play on either or Power/Sherman/Johnson?? Is there an obvious match up for Russell? Brisbane dont have a mid sized creative forward do they?

Cheers, Tommy

russell on drummond as a negating half forward would be my pick. infact if so sure it will either be him or wiggo i'd put my house on it.

we tried to draft drummond for a reason. they really rate his run off half back.

hope hads has some insight

And if Bower and T Bird collide in the first minute our tall defenders are.........................................Oops..... That's why Setanta should be in instead of Cloke. I hope I'm proved wrong. Like the rest of you, I want to win so much.

Does anyone remember that meglomaniac rubbish that Voss did on Brownlow night about Rob Harvey???? The guy is a tosser.
