I am pretty sure the vast majority of posts by other posters in the football threads have been football related.

He is probably getting paid $500,000+ to do a job. Anybody getting paid that amount of money needs to have the skill set to get the job done in an upwards trajectory. 3 or 4 real improver's and a few others 'At required Level' is just not enough. And the Likes of Walshy and Weits would have improved under their own steam regardless.

Yes I get all the arguments about injuries, covid, politics, work cohesion etc, etc but that is the role he took on. You have to adapt and overcome adversity in life and particularly in the AFL. Adversity brings out the best in the best. As a player Teaghuey got the very best out of himself but I just haven't seen it here as a Coach. His job is to set the game plan and get the players playing that game plan.

So A) his game plan is flawed or B) he can't get the players all working together consistently. Either way it means he is struggling to connect the dots as Coach and educator. Injuries take away good players but is shouldn't effect the overall look of A) and B). Certainly you might lose without the good players but that shouldn't effect the overall game plan and player endevour.

As big Jack Reacher says 'Hope for the best and plan for the worst.' We haven't seen that Teaguey has a Plan for the worst.

Do I think the team will get better given time based on the past 2.5 years?..............maybe/don't know/could do/might not.

If the President and the Board has the same apprehension then they shouldn't procrastinate. This is a multi million dollar business organisation not a game of marbles.

If you ask the question....Who is more likely to make Carlton FC a better and more competitive team over the next 3 years - Teaghue or Lyon?

I think logically the numbers will always fall with Lyon based on his Coaching history and living through Teague's coaching history

Wrong thread Walshy.

You are Talking Shit here.

You have obviously no idea about Longmire and the Academy. NONE.

Stick to the facts.

Good post Cazz old boy
I think you have described and summed up how most of us feel about the situation

I am torn about Saturday night just want Saturday night to be over in one way - not in the sense that it shouldn’t be a great celebration of a legend of our game Eddie and he is a genuine legend but on the other side we all feel for David Teague and really he obviously knows it already but the directors executives of club owe it to him to tell him straight and put him out of his misery soon thereafter so he can get on and take time to heal and go forward

For a coaching and playing group that are full time professionals, its the amateur hour stench that makes it all untenable. Not just the coach but the entire club. Seriously. If all you had to worry about professionally is winning games of football, would you serve up such tripe for so long?

Sad when you think of the optimism when Teague was appointed, the hope finally things would begin to align.

So what went wrong?

Those leaky goals like the Smorgon sneaky leakers of old, they just kept coming in 5s or more. In the end I think that undid the trust. That after two years nothing changed with regard to those leakages. If Teague were a plumber you'd be sueing while standing in a bog.

But what if covid played its part? The disarray of the past 2 years, the bubbles, the lack of VFL games etc. Is now a time to judge?

and then there are the injuries, any way you stroke it there were a lot of injuries.

so while I think Teague is not the answer I will be uneasy if we move again to the 'whose coached well before, grab him...'

It all reeks of a sameness, that is what worries me. Pagan Ratts Malthouse Bolton Teague now Lyon? I think I'd prefer an interview process (something we have only done re Bolton and I still think Bolton did what we needed and then we moved him on) , and a decision based on that, not a darts board choice. I hope I am wrong. I hope the club either
a) Moves Teague on and then follows a proper process to appoint the new coach
or
b) Keeps Teague and supports him with a new team of coaches.

I fear it will be c) Lyon (cos Clarkson said no).

agree ... i cant get the past that the club has done zero to actually help teague be successful.

i said it a long time agao .. a fit curnow, a fit mcgovern with mackay firing ... and suddenly that rational of we can outscore anyone and defense doesnt matter .. really starts to look ideal.

but we are also cant ignore the 5 goals runs ... constantly happening ... the first time, 2nd time, 3rd time and forth time we can probalby live with .. but the 15th, 16th 17th time ... something is wrong if we cant address it. Ultimately that is the coaches responsibility.

and then i get back to the first point - the club has done zero to help teague .. a young coach, in his second year, dealing with covid ... and everything else ... he was never going to be successful when you reflect on it, there was just too much going against him.

Im okay with Lyon, but a bit part of me thinks, that sticking with Teague and getting the right support around him, as the better option, but you cant do that without commitement ... i.e. he cant go into next year with the certaintly of the board ... otherwise it will be the same shit i.e. 3rd week of the season 2022 ... how long before teague is replaced.

to that extent, i agree 100% with pickers as well. The handling of teague, by our club, but by the media .. and again becuase of lack of response from the club ... has been a disgrace. depsite the loss to port, our handling of teague has been the worst performance of the season!

Resonates with me. As much as i can rationalise letting him go, the bigger part of me says it would take backbone and do more for the culture by sticking with him and the putting in place the right team.

SS,

It is pointless banging on about the Media. They are sharks. They get a sniff of blood in the water and it is all over. And when there is no blood in the water someone draws the short straw and jumps in to open up a wound somewhere, somehow.

As an Old Boss use to say to me................"The worst thing that ever happened to the AFL was SEN".

24/7/365 must be filled and most of it is done so with out n' out lies, half truths, conjecture, supposition and straight up hysteria backed by bile, hatred and more than a fair share of axes to grind.

Stewy Dew will get the next run through the ringer. Fresh meat is always required to feed the hungry beasts.

As the Romans taught us..................... it's Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down from the great unwashed in need of entertainment. More so now that Lockdown amplifies everything to 11.

I predicted between 12-6 as I don't rate the list and think the attacking game plan kept us in games as applied score board pressure.

Don't have the midfield to compete which is bluntly obvious.

I predict 10-6 next year on the proviso we recruit better - much better - midfield talent.

If not then its 12-6

The way I see it.

And yet we currently sit 13th with the possibility of finishing up 14th behind......you guessed it, Hawthorn. Go figure.

yeah, that hack clarkson, so washed up, with a rusted on game plan and no flexibility.....

You forgot he was also sacked and picking up someone elses garbage.

we sacked parkin the first time too. he came back and won us the 95 premiership

we sacled walls and he came back and won us the 87 premiership

lets face it, you are biased against clarkso

Except Parkin and Wallsy were Carlton people.

The messiah complex is dumb for dumb people. If we need to get where we must be then only hard work and patience will get us there.

The list needs to be fixed. We have good key position players and a couple of good midfielders but everywhere else on the ground is not very good unless you think McGovern is a gun and Newnes is a jet.

Or maybe our rookies are bonafide AFL players. Blooded some youngsters and thats a good thing.

who cares if they were carlton people, they were still sacked, makes your point even worse. by this you are saying its ok if carlton sack their own, but no other club can sack a coach? remember, collingwood sacked matthews - how many flags did he win with the brissy lions?

another deflection by the master here. what if they do sack teague, and he becomes successful at another club? will it be alright then, as it was carlton who sacked him? people come on this site for healthy footy discussion, yet all we read is your biased, senseless arguments

teague has blooded 3 players this year. thats ok. not enough game time for them for mine, but ok the list has holes in it, i agree, with the modfield, but it has been too much for too few coz teague refuses to put time into the youngsters in the middle. why hasnt stocker had a go in the middle? why does dow keep getting dropped? yes he has flaws, but he is lacking confidence coz he keeps getting dropped. why did it take half a season to get kennedy in? why was setterfield given so many chances when he has been so poor? why does newnes keep getting a game when there are younger, better players in the squad? he has gifted games to older players, and crucified the younger players? these are the frustrations i have with your bff, please address these
