Think again. Malthouse blatantly refused to have his position reviewed at Collingwood.
Even when McGuire insisted and a review of the football department was instigated, Mick refused to participate.
That's the type of ego we're dealing with.

The writing was on the wall there that Buckley was going to be installed no matter what; who's to say the goalposts didn't shift?

Perhaps there was a backup plan that was scrapped even though Malthouse had reservations about Bucks' capabilities? I mean I totally understand everyone erring on the side of giving Buckley a chance, but Malthouse doesn't look like much of an idiot in retrospect.

Just sit back & enjoy how this plays out mid year when if we are 3-8, 2-9 or heaven forbid 0-11.

The executive would be extremely concerned with MM's constant contract yapping in the media.

The whole scenario is untenable.

MM needs to pull his head in and reach mid year at 5-6 to lessen the media negativity/spotlight!

Very disappointing that after one loss to start the season, Malthouse puts his contract on the public agenda again. It's tantamount to saying "If we continue to lose from here, it's not my fault".

He could easily have said if asked, "If we win games, this will take care of itself. I am not concerned and have faith."

Selfish take from a media-savvy coach. I hope the board calls him in, tells him to shut up and start winning.

Despite the reservations in here about Mick, its not like he can't coach. There are no apparent rumblings from the player group. Sooner or later we just have to start producing. That would help.

There's conjecture as to whether the interview was pre-recorded and is simply the source or a reiteration of his comments before they came to light in the media.

Is that still the case and this is simply an aftershock rather than a new act?

Quite possibly Jim.
The point is that Mick knew the ramifications of his comments and the fact there would be reverberations from them. They've become a distraction because he made them so.
Disappointing but not really unexpected.

Guys, quick question:

How do we know Mick isn't disgruntled about the contact situation due to non-answers and no KPIs for him to hit?

I don't think he'd mind being subject to an end-of-season review, but if he feels no realistic targets are being set or the goal posts are shifting because they have cold feet, I think that's a good reason to make a ruckus if he was then further stonewalled when seeking answers.

Wouldn't you?

are you telling us he's chucking a tantrum because he doesn't know if he should give it his best shot or try making the finals?

is trying to better last years results not a start or even god forbid making the finals?

do you think that the pres or trigg need to give him a specific ladder finish to guarantee an extension?

How about doing his !@#$% job for 1 million a year and stop focusing on his own selfish agenda.

It's the board who should've had the balls from the start to lay it on the line for Mick rather than be dictated to by him.
The governance of this club has been atrocious for near on 20 years.

Hopefully the change in CEO and President has given the administration some balls.
Whatever the case, for the first time ever I'll be sending an email to them tomorrow outlining my feelings. If they buckle to this selfish campaign by Malthouse, that will be the final straw for me. It's time they actually saw something through. They've said they'll wait till seasons end and I fully support and expect them to do so.

I get the feeling the CEO is hamstrung in a number of areas by the whims of powerful board members.

I don't think anyone would have a problem with a clear line of communication, I'm questioning if that's what's happening. I don't think it is, hence the disruption.

Interesting Article I read in the Herald Sun....Mick is basically saying that He and the three assistant coaches are out of contract and have not been re-signed, so unless the Club do so, the players will be distracted...

In other words, Screw you if you don't reward us now with new contracts......

GET Rid of them all!!!

Mick's line about security for his assistants.

are you serious

so instead of resolve and focus they fold and buckle under the pressure if you look at it through your perspective (even though god know it's extremely hard to fathom)

is that what sort of leadership, organization and strength you want to leading your players

It's not overly complicated, surely? Wins or gtfo. Another 0-3 start and it should be over IMHO.

I can't see how the communication can be any clearer from the club. :?
We'll re-assess at the end of the season. Mick admitted he'd known that was the case since mid 2014.

The only disruption is coming from Mick trying to force their hand through the media.

MM would have more to lose than the club.
He'd be asked to stay away or sacked.
Interim coach would come in and that's how his career would end: dumped by last 2 clubs and media, in particular Stevens would have a field day.

Mark Stevens stated on Game Day the word is Voss is coming to Carlton next year.

...and he also said that the decision at the end of 2015 sits well with him at the time.

I'm thinking he may be taking the focus away from the players....hoping
