Applies only if you view Menzel as a sacrifice. I view it as a 'means to an end'.*

* a thing that is not valued or important in itself but is useful in achieving an aim.

Sacrifices in AFL speak would be viewed with some remorse. There was no remorse in getting rid of Troy Menzel. He wasn't valued his former employer.

I only posted what I did because the same poster said in their post directly above the one I quoted that Menzel is a young talent who can potentially come back to bite us.

So if we did the deal as a straight 3 way swap with Sumner or Plowman (both former top 10 picks themselves), would people have been more happy with the deal? I'm thinking yes.

Many people didn't think Eddie Betts was much of a loss either because he was "just a small forward". We'd give anything to have him back now and it hurts every time he slots another one through for the Crows.

I wouldn't be surprised if we end up feeling similar when Menzel starts tearing it up for the Crows. He's a seriously talented player that would've been a gun for us once the team was going better.

Each of the guys we've traded have the potential to come back and bite us, but that's what happens when you're trading and trying to get into the early part of the draft, you have to sacrifice something of value. I think Henderson, Menzel and Yarran will all be better off and better players at their new clubs, but that doesn't mean we've done the wrong thing trading them.

At least I can watch Eddie & Menz tearing it up in the same team again

It's when you let guys like Betts and Jacobs walk out the door for nothing that it really hurts.

Spot on. It's not who you lose it's what you get back. That is where we have failed.

This year we lost some experience and talent but got back enough to suggest we can improve our list.

When is the next delisting lodge??
Warnock, Armfield and Dick may see the door???
If these players, Kerridge, Plowman, Sumner and Lamb get fit, we may end up looking like,
Simpson Jamison Plowman
Buckley Weitering Tuohy
Docherty Cripps Sumner
Thomas Jaksch Kerridge
Walker Casboult Everitt
Kreuzer Murphy Gibbs
From; Lamb Boekhorst Curnow Rainbow (get fit boy)
Graham Phillips Whiley Smith (get fit boy)
Pick 8, pick 11 and pick 19.
Few more years of pain but the foundations have been laid...
Maybe add Andrew Moore or Brad Mckeinze in the PSD??

I don't care about the guys we ve traded.
If they showed they cared, they wouldn't ve been traded. All except Bell were selfish, lazy and disrespectful.
Most credible judges have acknowledged this and congratulated us on our trading period efforts.
Who cares what some nobody from 'The Roar' thinks.

These statements really annoy me. Seriously we continuously back these guys and then when they are moved on we hear they 'didn't work hard enough' and now 'I'm working on these things now to give myself a 2nd chance' .... well flower me why the flower didn't you do this 3 years ago. Does our club fail to get through to these guys before it's too late or do we just draft flogs?

How else would you frame the obvious question to a potential employer?

Yeah you're right, Watson should say he's doing the same ol' thing. Players always do these puff pieces after being let go.

despite this guy's annoying style of writing ... if you're being honest there's helluva lot of truth to his list and trading analysis.

Give me a break. The blokes a @#$%&! flog.

he is a flog, i agree. the sentiment in his argument is a good one though.

we are a shit team with the worst list in football, and this trading period we cluttered it up with 4 more pieces of deadwood who will be lucky to play seniors for us ... meanwhile, letting go of a raft of young players with talent. it kinda defies the whole rebuild notion when you're relieving yourself of young talented players who were in our top 10. they're the ones to hang onto while you move the ones in their mid to late 20's. yeah?

gibbs, murphy, kreuzer really needed to be dealt for bonafide prospects or high picks.

lucky pick one fell in our lap and that will get us weitering. thankfully nobody at carlton can stuff that up, because i have zero faith in anyone at our club to right this ship.
