I think the structural issues pre-date MM, i.e. Mitchell and McCarthy both failing to make an impact; Hampson getting the boot when Warnock wasn't consistently making an impact was barely a decision on his part but more the player feeling he hadn't been given a fair crack by the club.

Chucking it out in favour of a five year plan when most of the league seems to have no clue in how to execute a five year plan (I'm yet to see a successful one since Clarkson and Thompson) seems like a daft move without heavy consultation. MM would be perfect for such a succession plan, so I don't see the point of dispensing with him now.

I gave MM the benefit of time, he needed time to make it work for him; not anymore. When the players were fresh in the first, we could play in and under, win centre clearances, we were fine. When we got tired, 10min into 2nd qtr, we got slow, they got outside of us, they sling-shotted at ease, and we were woefully exposed. It was obvious that we had no plan B for that. Our coach had no answer. When we got to the wing we butchered it to half forward. Almost two quarters, no goals.

Up until tonight I was a MM fan, no, I gave him the benefit of time to get it right. But after tonight, he's lost me. I'm sure the next coach has a modern take on the game that can take these players forward. Bring it on.

And he can take everybody with him. Baker especially. And our forwards coach too (do we have one). Deplorable.

I can't stand this playing the wing flooding back bullshit. It's taken us back to the ugly style of play we had in the Pagan era.

and buttifant, fitness coach my hole...

Oh look it's early..
One thing I get from what's happened over the last decade is it doesn't matter about players coaches etc.
The club can't improve because it's a backwards club at the top.
The more pressure it gets the more it will explode into smitherines as it doesn't know what to do.

And it's very poorly run.
There are rumors were chasing a guy for recruiting that I think will be another backwards step.
Were trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle with only half the pieces available.. The ones we are not using and don't rejig ate the people at the top.. They can't see that they can't complete the puzzle because they're the missing pieces. And no matter how they try to coordinate the other pieces the puzzle will never be complete...

It's about ticking all the boxes.
If we're serious how many have we ticked?
So if you haven't ticked the required boxes where is it you think you're going?

Mick appointed Murphy as captain. I just don't think Murph has the onfield presence that elite captains need to have. He gets ragdolled. Henderson should be captain.

I give Mick credit though for cleaning out the list of non-achievers. Still some list-cloggers to go... and that will be Micks legacy.

Trigg needs to arrange for a thorough search and appointment of a new long term coach to rebuild this team.

And how much is he getting paid to do that...?

Correct me if I'm wrong please...

A couple of years back, it was all about the process, not winning or losing.

But last night, MM said he was disappointed because he wanted a win.

So now, it's not all about the process.

BTW, Richmond are a very, very good side.

The harsh reality is that we have gone backwards since the Madhouse took over. Even if we have improved (and I don't see it), other clubs have improved more.
Lets face it, it was a dumb decision to appoint him right from the start and now we will pay for another 5 years (by then it will be 3 premierships in 36 years for the Super Duper Coach). Oh well ... we can only hope that the club has learnt a lesson ... No more knee jerk reactions ... no more looking for 1 man to turn a club around.

In my heart I keep hoping that the next week will be different ... I was even feeling quite optimistic about the season ... and I will be barracking like crazy for us against the Coasters ... but it aint looking good.

Who gets sakced round one in his third year?

The decision to extend or part ways needs to be made end of season, or near enough.

..and if the club is to be trusted... it will be done then.

Will be interesting to see how his coaching record will be covered if we are pummeled in round five with no wins on the board this year (though surely we'll beat St Kilda in round four).

Two years to get your shit together is long enough... ie process

Third year you need to be seeing the fruits of your labour... ie WIN

No rocket surgery...

I'm very worried by Hendo.
I was worried last year too, and was told he carried injuries.
I don't know if it is a coincidence, and may well be, but his performance ability appears to have gone backwards under MM's reign.
I hope it is unrelated, as I think he is one of our very best when he's playing well.
Cannot agree more with the Murph. sentiments.
I thought then Simmo, but now think Gibbs or Hendo if he gets back to the Hendo we know he can be. Also Jammo.
We need some goddamm charisma and passion in this team.

Pretty simple now. There must be improvement.

That "effort" last night was not a good look for a coach in his third year..

Best players making basic mistakes and not looking threatening.
70% of the team either not trying or completely cooked.
Team looking as though they really didn't know how they should be playing OR they were playing exactly the way they have been instructed and it was ineffective.

On TV (to me anyway) it looked as though we had used every drop of petrol we had by halfway through the second quarter. How the @#$%&! can that be?

I'm hoping it was because it was the season opener and the boys had used all their adrenalin early, combined with a lot of new faces.

If not Buttifant should be shown the door first.

I understand that, but with a host of new players since a few years back, why, in Mick's mind, wouldn't it still be about the process?

It should always be about the process whether you're in year 1 or year 10 of a contract

... but that process needs to start bearing results by now.

I think we'll get better as the season unfolds but slightly less confident now about the extent of our improvement.

As always... happy to be proven wrong
