Nathan Buckley did not pick us to win, he was on channel 7 news and tipped Collingwood. The ins for Collingwood are pretty good, Medhurst, Davis, Anthony are all forwards. The outs, Thomas, Cloke, rocca and Fraser have all been struggling anyway and will not be missed too much. This is a game that we should win, on paper we are a better side. Having said that i dont think we will win this match and the pies will win by about 2 goals. Hope i am wrong but there seems to be something amiss at the moment whether is a confidence thing i dont know. If we play like we did early in the season we will win, the key is to kick straight.

In todays West Australian news paper there is a big page with about 30 football people and 'celebs' tips listed and it is there every week

Nathan Buckley is there and in his tips he has tipped Carlton

Thats where i took it from , in fact everyone tips carlton bar 2 people

In the hun last week no-one bar the Kiss of Death tipped Freo last week.

We're keeping that guy in the game, I swear.

Nathan Buckley also tipped Carlton in the age too, he definately picked Collingwood on the news last night, maybe he put the tips in the paper earlier in the week.

Anyway, whoever they all pick is irrelevant, a Collingwood team with their backs to the wall is a danger game. we played a depleted Essendon* side and look at how that turned out. I am still in two minds about going to this game, couldnt stand it if we lose and have to witness it. Hope the good Fev turns up.

..i know we're not thrilled with team selections, but we're already giving the youth/kids a go.. ..there's a fair amount of players selected each week that are young/light on experience.. ..in this weeks extended squad there's a bunch of players that are young, and a couple that feel like they've been around for a long time but are about the 50 game mark.. ..i count about a dozen players that are around 50 games or less.. ..somewhere along the line there's gotta be a few more seasoned players, our problem is in getting the mix/balance right with youth and experience, we have to bring in a few 'old hands' that may not deserve it on form..

I'm not convinced that Medhust and Davis will play. I tip one of the 2 won't come up - probably Davis.

I'd suspect the only change will end up being Robbo in.

With that said, the following players BETTER step up or there is no valid reason as to why they are staying in the side.

Russell (still nobody can tell me who he's opponent was the other day, but everybody says how good he is at shutting people down)

Finally i get a chance to watch the game this morning, actually depends if Lakers vs Rockets is on first.

I just finished watching Angels Vs Red Sox.......... went to the 15th innings. Great Game.

I should of just watched the Carlton/Freo game :banghead:

how can you compare wiggins to houlihan

yes wiggins is out of form but we have had limited choices in replacements for his position

we have more choices in houlas roles and therfore he was dropped for whatever reason

houla may have been harshly done

but you cant compare the 2

apples and oranges

I'm not comparing them, I'm letting the stats do the talking.

I reckon whatever that lead up role Wiggins is supposed to be playing Houla would be better.

But that's neither here or there now, because the MC have picked Wiggo at CHF; I truly hope it works out for him. I can't see him being retained if he has one more shocker; win or lose.

But then again the MC have been strange this year. Saying this and doing that. :?

Making the distinction between comparing them and comparing their statistics is a little disingenuous.

I also see you didn't include the statistic for marks. An area where Wiggins averages significantly more than Houlihan.

It's all academy anyway if the stories that Houla is serving a club imposed suspension from the firsts are true.

True. If the reason for Houla is disciplanary then that may be the difference.

But back to mu point, Houla's stats are far more impressive than our lead up forward's is; and remember the lead up forward is a target on the lead so you would expect that he would have more marks, but the stats are not akewed that way:

Total Marks

Wiggins 46
Houla 30

Contested marks

Wiggins 2
Houla 0

Average marks per game

Wiggins 7
Houla 5

Have alook at the average marks...that's the only stat Wiggins leads Houla. Not that impressive when you consider the position each play and time on the ground. Houla has been in the midfield rotation group every game.

I'm just pointing out that Houla is a more natural and better forward player than Wiggins, and there's no way Houla should have been dropped on form before Wiggins.

It's just statistics, but then again the stats show Houla is (after missing a game) still one in ranked in our top 10 and Wiggins (after playing all 7 games) is not.

They are the facts.

Anyway, back to the game.

I suspect Robbo will replace Cloke especially if it's wet.

Can't see Fisher, Browne getting a game for obvious reasons already mentioned above.

We have to hammer their rucks with Kreuzer and Hammer. Hammer should be well suited to this game and should be too tall and athletis in the ruck. May end up with 50 tap outs, hopefully to advantage.

So, we shouldn't havea disadvantage in the ruck like last week. Therefore I expect our midfield to dominate. O'Bree seems there only bona fide in and under midfielder, but if we rotate better than we have, with the midfield depth we have, plus the Pies having one game less to recover from last week, I think we'll wear them down over the first 3 quarters and should see a one sided last quarter.

Midfield should dominate this game regardless if Pies try to close the game down.

Will be interested to see if Ratts changes to a more direct style of footy, ie take the game on, rather than sideways stuff, and see if he's addressed the one dimensional issue we have, with his preseason commitment to a multi pronged attack.

Fev should kick at least 6 against Presti.

I expect other goals will come from Betts, Yarran and the midfield...I hope there's some positive signs up forward, and really hope Wiggler contributes this week on the scoreboard, otherwise bye bye.

Surely Cloke will not be retained based on form, wet weather, being too short for the 2nd ruck and basically he's not our future as there is no upside (we've seen what there is to see).

Come on Ratts....lets get the faith back and put a season back on track, and make sure all your players are switched on, motivated, inspired and well versed in a better game plan.

I reckon because it's wet he would be more suited to playing than Austin (although I want Aussie in and get games pumped into him forward and back).

I just think that because he hasn't played a minute of contested footy for 2 weeks, this will be a disadvantage for him being consdiered as a preferable selection over others who have.

I have to add that I don't think Browne has been selected as an emergency because of form.

I think he's one of the last, along with Anderson, Fisher, Bannister, Hartlett and Edwards to be considered for senior collection (even Benltey has been given a go) and other than Anderson, he's the only other obvious choice who showed something last year (whereas Ando's done that this year) who warrants development in senior footy.

I think, and I may be wrong that his and Fisher's name as an emergency is a token gesture to keep them enthused by the prospect of a senior appearance.

Yes I know he's been taken interstate as the preferred emergency and would have played if there was a late withdrawal, but I'm sure that is standard practise to take someone in the hope they don't have to be used.

The fact they took him implies I may be wrong, but I don't think I'm wrong that they didn't take him because of his form in the Ants.

I can't see Fish selected albeit we are playing against a slower side.

Im not confident at all this week.......

We look like a team thats about to go off the rails and capitulate.

If the going gets tough i'd say we might be in some strife.
