How well we remember the "Sack Pagan; appoint Mitchell"

debacle of August/September 2006.

Not the least of the problems was the fact that Denis was to cost us at

least $1 Million-$1.25 Million

for 2007-08 regardless of whether he was Coach or not......unless he

was paid out?.....and replaced as Coach?

Multi Millionaire ex player Fraser Brown was one who was willing to at

least partly help financially.

This report was by Stephen Reilly for Real Footy on September 8-2006.

In Round 1-2006; we took on Melbourne at Telstra Dome on April 2.

Melbourne were thought to be possible Finalists that year;

while we didn't have much recent joy at all excepting the drafting of Marc Murphy.

Anyway....we shocked Melbourne and all the punters by winning...13-15-93 to 10-12-72.

Here we have 3 Match Reports for Real Footy by Jake Niall....Emma Quayle; and Michael Gleeson.

As I seem to recall, that was the game with Fev's chase down and tackle on Byron Pickett towards the end of the game when Fev was absolutely stuffed - loved it! Is that on Bluetube?

Ian Collins was under the pump, and talked to Jake Niall of The Age on November 17-2005.

Collins vows to stick it out

By Jake Niall
November 17, 2005

"CARLTON president Ian Collins has indicated to members that he intends to
continue leading the club through what he has described as the "most
difficult time in club history".

Collins has taken the unprecedented step of sending a long letter to all
of Carlton's 33,000 members in which he outlines the club's financial
problems in detail, braces members for a loss and apologised for a
"totally unacceptable" season on the field.

In explaining the financial circumstances that afflict the Blues, Collins
cited a series of commitments his board had inherited; including an
apparent reference to the money it owed past players in under-the-counter
payments that were outside of the salary cap.

Carlton has owed past champions Stephen Silvagni and Craig Bradley
substantial sums that were promised to them in under-the-counter payments
while they were playing — debts the club acknowledged in its annual
accounts.

Collins listed four underlying factors that explained Carlton's financial
difficulties, particularly its ongoing cash flow problem.

They consisted of the debt from the construction of the Legends Stand,
substantial long-term player contracts that would expire at the end of
2006, the nearly $1 million fine for salary cap cheating and what Collins
termed "a number of commitments (contracts) to former players, which were
'off-balance sheet' that had to be extinguished".

The Age understands that Collins was referring to the illicit payments
Carlton promised to the likes of Silvagni and Bradley and which, at the
urging of the club, prompted the champion pair to tell the AFL of the
illicit payments when the Collins board swept John Elliott's
administration from office back in 2002.

Collins said that the Blues would have been forced to take the drastic
step of using the AFL's competitive balance fund for struggling clubs had
it not relocated its home games from Optus Oval to Telstra Dome and the
MCG. Collins, as the chief executive of Telstra Dome, removed himself from
the contentious talks that led to the Blues embracing the stadium he
manages.

Collins indicated his desire to continue on as president when he told
members: "I am however now fully fit and have never been more committed to
the Carlton Football Club and am energised to see the club achieve success
both on and on the field."

Collins' declaration quells speculation about his future, which followed
his health issues in 2005, when he had a heart attack and serious leg
injury.

Carlton insiders also have been aware of talk about potential challenges
to the Collins board, which will be reduced by two when past players David
McKay and Ken Hunter finish up at year's end. At least three directors —
club legend Stephen Kernahan, John Valmorbida and Chris Pavlou — face
election.

Collins told members that the recent review of the football department had
concluded that the club was under-resourced, "particularly given the
required fast track development of a very young list of players". This had
led the club to install new technology and hire new coaches Terry Daniher
and ruck specialist Gary Dempsey"

Does anybody have a copy of The Fat Lady Sings 40 Years in Footy by Rex Hunt and Graeme Bond? I picked up a copy today and it has some of the most amazing footy photography in it.

We were given no chance really after a first quarter of two shots at goal to their 11; but it turned out to be a thrilling contest in the end.....and famously remembered as the game when Fev kicked that incredible goal from the boundary a mile out on the flank.
OK so the stats books / blueseum show that C20Mc was delisted at the end of 2006, but what's he doing now?

He probably went back home to his original Club; South Fremantle.

He's still young....turns 28 next month.

It's worth getting hold of. I haven't had a chance to read much of the text but had a look through and some of the pics are sensational.

Love the full page pic of Camporeale and Dean in the M&M blue.

Thanks for that (I'll check their website/s)

Found Cory in the SANFL with the Panthers (according to Wikipedia and "Adelaide Now") with Prender .. had a few good games mid-year, getting 12-19 possies / game ...

Thanks for these, Warbs: keep up the great work

...and thanks, verbs .. Fat Lady and Sat Arvo are both at Dymocks ... for considerably less than $US 130

cheers

COLLINGWOOD.......WE HATE THE BASTARDS !

On the 21st of August 1993; Trevor Grant of the Herald Sun

wrote this great two page story about the Traditional hatred between

Carlton F.C. and Collingwood F.C.....including their players and supporters.

Funnily enough; looking back as I did today.....Collingwood didn't make

the Finals in 1993; but Carlton played Essendon* in the Grand Final and

lost.....a game they should've won; as they were the better side....anyway..

It took a long time to condense two Newspaper pages into the following;

but it's an interesting read, as the rivalry still prevails today.

I especially love the story told by Wayne Johnston about sneaking out the back door

after hearing the way two Magpies were talking about him!

Is it a hatred that will ever go away?!

I think the time has come for me to close down the Scrapbook this week.

I've still got a lot of stuff to put up, but there just doesn't seem to be the interest being shown in it on the site this year.

I figure that last year; it was a hit, because we were in the doldrums with no success; and it was good for posters to read about previous successes.

This year; we've got a new Pres.....new Coach; and of course a batch of promising young kids, and not the least....Kreuzer and Judd.

So....looking forward to lots of Carlton success this year!

Thanks very much....I appreciate that.

I'll see what happens and what the mood is at the Season's end as to whether I'll run it again.
