BTW the reason we have the TBirds of the world seeking $300k+ is because of silly past negotiations. Fancy Houla getting $300k or Waite high $200k. No wonder TBird wants a piece of the pie and compared to these two should be getting more.

No the reason players want more money is because other clubs offer them more than they get offered by their original club. Some players aren't earning as much as you think because they end up staying at their club for less.

I'm warming to trade T-Bird for pick 6 only. The only reason would be to pick up Leurnberger though. The risk is who might take him before us.

Risk all right. The big man has been flying at the draft camp and recruiters are absolutely raving about him. They're now saying he's the best tall in the draft and possibly for the past five years. His sprinting today for his size was exceptional. May go top 3.

Charman?

They might be keener on Sellar because of him... career Mr. Fix-it of sorts.

That's if he hasn't grown.

I would be flabbergasted and more than a little annoyed if we, Hawthorn, gave up/lost pick 6 in any shape or form.

I rate Thornton, but he's not worth us losing a shot at one of the better credentialled KPP prospects in recent years. If it came down to a choice between Thonton and pick 6, I'd keep the draft pick. So would the vast majority of Hawks fans, too, I'd say.

The club's shown that it's willing to suffer short term deficiencies in the hope of more sustainable success down the track. Us Hawk fans, by and large, have signed on to this plan. Trading pick 6 in any form flies in the face of that and would be greeted with a fair degree of concern.

Stop flaunting your "plans" at us you mug.

Not all of us are privileged enough to support football clubs with plans

Yes I know, that's cause Hawthorn fans have been condition to think that football is about collecting and using low draft picks, not about winning football games.

Go on you're not fooling us. If you didn't want him, you wouldn't be over here reading about him would you. There will be a Polak and Livingston in this year's top 7, why take the chance.

My opinion is that Thorton will play for the BLUES next year. I base this on the three offers he is currently looking at. They are not that far apart as much as the media will have you believe.

Really? We failed miserably this year then, dudding ourselves out of a top four pick in this superdraft, all for a few pointless wins.

I wouldn't mind him. Just not at "any price".

That still leaves 4 out of six. Don't mind them odds :)

What I have proposed isn't "any price", it's a fair one.

Shame you don't have top 4 pick then I guess :-D

Anyway, we will know soon enough.

Motown you claim that you "would be flabbergasted and more than a little annoyed if we, Hawthorn, gave up/lost pick 6 in any shape or form".

I too was flabbergasted at the way you picked up PP's in the previous 2 years (here i go again!) and a little annoyed at the way the Hawks turned tanking into an art form. We could quite easily have been sitting on picks 1 & 3 if not for the Hawks dishonesty!!

You see Motown we too believe it or not are also rebuilding. We are competing against you. We want the players you want. Unfortunately (I hope) we will not be accomodating you with fantastic deals of the magnitude of the Alan Bond Channel 9 scenario of yesteryear. As they say in the classics there is only one Alan Bond type deals in a lifetime and you have had yours with the Kangaroos.

I reckon we'd have picked the same 2 players even if we had picks 1 & 2

The club met T-Bird today. Still no resolution but they still seem confident.

I'm not to argue with you. You've obviously made your mind up and nothing I say is going to change that.

If we did tank last year, though, it was a fantastically precise effort in Rd 21. Not much margin for error there.

Fair enough, too. I'm not one of those proposing a 3rd rnd and {insert hack here}, though. I figure a first rounder is fair - just not one as early as 6.

Course the Blues would say that...

"Thornton wants out" - as if the Club would say that...with this new PR machine, the Club seems to know what it's doing :garthp:
